Project Nova officially canceled

Lmao, so your entire claim to “know” about game development came out because you said “4-5 years”?
Sit down kid, you don’t know what you’re talking about either. You’re not impressing anyone, especially when the ■■■■ you say can be shown otherwise with a simple google search.

Yes because everything on the interent is always the truth written by guys that know everything…dude are you naive…

You can also read on the internet that the earth is FLAT…

At this rate, sc is never going to be released so keep buying their ship designs. There’s one thing dreaming of a perfect space mmo and another to get stuck 7 years in an alpha somewhat working engine because everything has to be done right. Ever saw the movie “Synecdoche New York”?

So when they first came out with their original Kickstarter raising funds in 2012 and anticipated a 2014 release date. You’re telling me they managed to fit 4-5 years of “planning” into those 2 years AND were planning on actually developing it AND THEN also releasing it? Whoa!

Tbf they would have made their 2014 release date, until Roberts discovered he’d make so much more money milking whales for their space dreams and train rides.

That list is not entirely accurate in this context. Some of those are big corps that had their teams working on several projects at once. Here we talk about a self marketed hyper enthusiast and dedicated team swearing to revolutionize the industry by focusing 24/24 on a single project and money puring in more than enough over 7 years. Yet they have not fully built one star system late alone 100 promised and most of the feature are still in the “dreaming big” state.

I’m sure y’all seen the Wing Commander movie. And people STILL insist on throwing money at him.

MRW I read that nuclear burn:

Buy some more rsi ships, balos!

Hey guys, general discussion is not meant for trashing ccp’s side projects. It’s for trashing Eve online. Come on already.

3 - 5 years is the norm for most AAA MMORPG’s.

CCP was established at the end of 97’ and EVE Online was released in 2003. They made another game in between that, which helped secure financing in 99. So, you can likely say EVE was mostly in between 98 - 2003 (4 to 5 years).

The game was re-made 11 times, each stage being progressively closer to the final goal. By launch, EVE had been through 5 total recodes where almost the entire game was scrapped and rebuilt from scratch and at least 6 partial recodes.

7 years is a bit long, but not unheard of for MMORPG’s. Referencing EVE Online here, they launched a unfinished game as stated by the CCP devs when talking about the 2003 launch. Before 2003 launch, they still spent 80-hour weeks and even sometimes without pay just to make a launch in a time where the consumers were more tolerant of unfinished games. CCP later made this up by releasing free expansions and even many patches dedicated to only fixing bugs (unlike most MMORPG’s do).

So, yeah, 7 years would be ideal even for EVE Online. Just most try to stick to 3 - 5 years as the market grows stale and companies dry up of funds before then. But certainly not outside the norm.

Don’t tell him…he will not believe it and simply attack what does not fit in his world…

Psssst Balos … you are talking to yourself again.

I think the real reason Project Nova has been cancelled is expected dire competition.
No man’s buy made a surprising comeback.
Star Citizen looks like it will be made eventually.
Elite Dangerous is about to be done with carriers and then actually polish the space legs.

And Dust was rather average grindy FPS with every sin EA is blamed for. The only thing it had to it is big news about integration with EVE online, which proved to be problematic because a)It makes orbital strike too much of a wild card b)It creates endless problem of ISK scaling and cross-game impact to the gameplay.
So it was already dubious investment and Pearl Abyss deal just made sure that devs are forced to stay in bussiness “highsec” on green safety.

Impressive. Just as stupid here as you are ingame.

Well done.

This is way beyond stupid. You’re comparing apples and pears. Not even mentioning ED is a crap game, SC will never be done and NMS is garbage.

lmao they had almost no game at that point. Pretty much a scam from the start

And you’re absolutely correct; that was after the alleged “poll” where backers voted for a exponentially expanded scope of features. But as the game was first proposed, it was entirely doable and not out of the realm of possibility to meet the original kick starter goal of a 2014 release date.

I don’t believe it began as a scam. I think under Ortwin’s “guidence”, Sandy Gardiner’s insatiable need for celebrity status, and Robert’s own need to be once again seen as relevant, the idea that milking whales for $1000 jpg’s and dreams became too much of a temptation.

You can see in his original pitch video that he was insinuating that the game was fairly close to finish already when in reality all that had been made was some graphical assets by crytek to make that video for the pitch. A heap of lies from the start

Even if they didn’t start drilling for whale oil, the project would have always been a mess with croberts at the helm.

All you need to do is go back and look at the whole situation with freelancer and realise it was even worse this time. With no publisher making him have any sort of deadline, choosing an fps engine to make a space game and with him having full creative control to constantly reiterate, there was never hope for a good game.

You don’t have to believe it, for it to be true nevertheless.

Where the hell does the money come from to fund these failed projects?
