So i’ve been wondering if it is technically possible to code a hotkey that lets you lock every ratt on your active overview tab all at once, more often than not its not possible to do a box lock for a variety of reasons and control clicking can get tiresome.

just because you might not want it, doesn’t mean that others might not want some type of function like it.

For the simple fact that when I enter a combat site, I want to target specific ships in a specific order.
I do not want the game calling targets for me.
I’m already about done with “oh, you switched ships? Here’s the fitting tool!” which seems to have been recently added. I don’t need any more hand holdy BS hindering me under the guise of help.
The ships aren’t all at the same range and targeting distance varies from ship to ship and individual skills so there will most often be ships you can’t target unless you get closer so not all enemy can be blanket-targeted.
Ctrl+click isn’t such an issue that we should need auto-multiple-lock. It’s the easy part of combat.
We already have an ‘auto-target’ feature up to the maximum number of targets (and you don’t even need a module for this).
As well as the maximum amount of targets locked based on the same factors. There is literally a hard limit on the number of total targets one can lock at the same time. (Regardless if there would be more withing targeting range.)

I think this is the real gist of your argument, and the arguments of many folks who make suggestions.
I welcome and relish the ability to manage my targets in the ways currently available to me. I do not see any tactical advantage in your suggestion, which appears to resemble an attempt at reducing interaction with the game itself.
You may get what you wish for, but I doubt it will be high on the Designers’ list of priorities.
An Auto-Targeting System can be used, also in the menu there is a setting “auto target back” if you get locked. Besides that, Auto-Targeting Missiles are available too, Drones engage all aggressive NPCs automatically. Enough options already to save yourself from too much active locking if you don’t want it. I personally do not really see a benefit for the game in the suggestion, that “some players might want it” isn’t enoug imho, a change should benefit the majority of the players or being straight superior to the current solution.
neither part in this proposal mentions forcing you to use the feature. you can control click when needed im just proposing giving an option to people that do the same over and over again mutliple times per hour.
You already have that with the target lock frame when you hold CTRL and left-click-drag the mouse.

You might not intend to automate it, but that is exactly what it would get used for…
If youre with a fleet, sometimes the ratts get mixed with the players. if you do that, you will waste locks on something you dont want to lock.

Plus it’s better to have the ability to choose the targets and when to target them.
That’s why there are tabs on your Overview. All fleet members should be in a separate tab and the enemy in it’s own, too.
Your can also use two Overviews and separate friendly/unfriendly that way.
i have tabs where only ratts show up but fleet members are still lockable, its been suggested that tweaking of the overview can give me what im looking for. but i really dont have experience fiddling with overviews.
I don’t have much experience with the game but when I understood how important the Overview is, I took a few hours to know as much as I could.
It can always be reset to default so in case of messups there are no-lasting impacts.
I advise you familiarize yourself with it.
