Quantum Cores - Updates begin 8 September

They are mandatory in practice…but feel free to put up a bunch without cores and let us know where you put them. The structure is in low power mode because it lacks a core even if services are active…at least that’s what I understand from what has been communicated so far.

but that stuff will still exist, its just only large alliances will be able to use it…

I’d rather they just ban structures from high sec, at least this would level the playing field

Again, the “entitlement” you speak of is not mine, I dont need these, but I think there are players that do use these. It is not me saying “there should be no risk” at all, there is risk now, its just less incentive for attackers. As small groups wont be able to defend, it really just removes this aspect of gameplay for small groups if the purge happens.

Risk should be lower for less profitable areas (like high sec) and higher in more profitable areas (like null and WH space) but for structures this will invert that.

Where ?

The quote you made does NOT state the opposite.
The affirmation that “structures were not supposed to be used by solo players” is just YOUR assertion.

I don’t know a percentage of ownership, but I do know that all the industrialists I consider friends operate independently.

The reasons are simple: indices that punish people from sharing systems, trust, and competition.

Even my only corp-mate maintained separate structures in different systems. Trust and competition not being a factor here.

That sure sounds like an anecdote to me.

But if you want to defend CCP taking a nuke to an ant, have at it.

From the Dev Blog it will be required to deploy new structures, and I can’t see anything indicating that the core can be removed once a structure is Online, so this would only be true for previously existing structures deployed before this update.

Question, I can’t find it in the flow chart, dev blog, or this post. Are Quantum Cores removable after being installed in a structure?

It seems like this would defeat the purpose of the change, since you could still spam structures with full timers if that were the case.

 Oh boy… if you only knew how bad things really are

Well the quote says that the system should greatly favor interaction between groups of players.

If that somehow tells to you that it’s designed for solo, then we’ll just have to agree to disagree. Not going to argue when we have different understandings of the language used.

It did talk about how medium structures would be for small/solo groups. But I’m thinking that stance has changed.

So if you can’t have one, no one can? Really?

The risk is still lower in hi-sec. Corps have to have a structure of their own and pay 100mil just for the privilege of attacking your structure.

There is no other area of space that has that bar for entry.

It could be that structures in hi-sec get some better bonuses than now. But the smart thing to do is to wait and see how this plays out first.

So your affirmation that it means “structure should NOT be used by solo players” is just factually wrong.

On the opposite, CCP claimed they were supposed to replace POS, which WERE used by solo players, so structures WERE supposed to be used by solo players.

I see no issue here besides you jumping to conclusions.

As Jayce mentioned before this is the effect of CCP policy from the past 5 years being undone.

They allowed for the proliferation of resources across the server and we are now experiencing their attempts to undo their bad choices across all aspects of the game.

This game has continued to lower the bar of entry for new players with the introduction of skill injectors and plex.

Whose to say if this game is still going in 5 more years we will have come full circle.

I never said it should NOT be used by solo players. I said the initial intention was for group play, as well as saying that if you can’t defend your asset you have no business using them. I never said they could not be used by solo.

I actually did say, that if a solo player could defend their structures, then there are no problems with them owning them.

EDIT: I went back and double checked my stuff, and what it means is that if there’s no core in the TTT by January 12, 2021, you will no longer be able to tether there, and ship fitting and ship module and repair won’t be active. It still a structure and it can still be defended and used, just those things will be shut down.

If structure were supposed to be used by a group, why can they be anchored by one player (from a single player corp) - surely it should require a group.

Maybe corporations should require more than one member to be created as they can have structures “are meant to be for groups” and maybe a functioning corporation should be dependent on it’s membership being greater than one.

There’s a lot of if’s, but and assumptions here.

yes you did here :

The intention WAS to allow solo people to put up structures.

You’re conflating structure with citadel and you’re being pedantic. They’re free insofar as you don’t have to pay for them to exist, unlike every other structure in the game. Yes, the services costs money.

Ok true, I’ll give you that one.

That was an error on my part or at least didn’t reflect what I had in mind. If you look at my other replies, it’s clear that my view is that if you can defend your structures (even solo) it’s all fair game. However, the intention behind citadels (with the quote in mind) was to promote group play.

The issue with that is that 1 player can control multiple toons at the same time. I know solo players who have flow up to 15 ships at one time.

How did you do industry in highsec before 2016?
