The forum appears to have had some recent changes.
A major change is that we no longer type in markdown but write formatted text.
For example previously a sentence surrounded by asterisks would become italic, now if you write asterisks it immediately changes the text format and makes the asterisks disappear.
This could be nice, but I cannot revert it by removing the asterisk, or turn it into bold with a second asterisk. While I can then add two asterisks I can turn the italic text into bold italic, but what if I just want to switch italic to bold? This is pretty annoying as I don’t see any way to change formatting on mobile besides these markdown codes, which means if I want to revert formatting now I need to delete the entire formatted text?!
Quotes also changed from markdown to preformatted, which makes adding quotes to text pretty annoying. For example I haven’t found a way on mobile to bring the cursor in front of the quote if the quote is the first thing in the message.
Did anyone else notice these changes?
And, can it be reverted please?

It seems there have been some recent changes to how Discourse uses markdown.
I found there is a new button to change it, but it seems the default option has been swapped.

They also changed how Enter works. Instead of going down 1 line without a big space between the lines, they now go down 2 lines and add a large space between the lines. This is quite annoying.
This
is
how it used to be, but now this requires Shift Enter
This
is how
Enter works now.
Where is this button?

I’ve noticed the changes myself.
My gripe is I no longer see what my text is going to look like prior to posting. That change has made using links to another website, for example the EVE Uni wiki, more cumbersome.
As a result, I’ve lost the inclination to post responses at times.
@Uriel_the_Flame
you solved my problem! Thanks,
Yep, that’s the one.
I only found it after I made my second post. Solves most of my issues, but I’d like non-formatted text to be the default.

Once you switch does it not remember the next time you visit the forums? Maybe check your cookie settings if that’s the case because since I’ve switched it stays that way.
Yea, it seems to remember settings.
That’s nice!
