@Hornymatt welcome to the forums,
Some players find the Rookie help chat a distraction, but it only forces you in that channel for 30 days. Some people in there like to troll, rant, play chat cop, give false or misleading information, etc.. Once the 30 days pass, you can right click and close the tab forever.
To join any channel simply click the plus sign at the end of the row of tabs atop the chat window. Under help is “Rookie” an English only chat restricted to Q/A but often not. Why is joining Rookie chat a good thing? Some people like @Mike_Azariah and also the people from my corp gift 30 day newcomers with free ships.
The ISD ( chat police ) tell us we aren’t suppose to do that sort of thing very often. Mike will tell you where he is heading, if you meet him at the station in Local Chat, Mike hooks you up with a free fitted PvP ship. Mike has been doing this for over 10 years, he just ignores the ISD and tells me he is stubborn like that. We just got started this year.
My corp has only 3 real people within, we don’t recruit, so don’t ask. We hand out free mining ships, fully fitted Venture for ore and gas mining ( +10 million ISK value ) and a Miasmos hauler. We don’t move around like Mike, we have our own player owned station in the Tsuguwa system 4 jumps off Jita. The 30 day newcomers can pick up the free ships there, all they have to do is ask Lucy.
Still works like that you get tossed into an NPC corp with an 11% tax rate. I would make up my own dummy corp just to avoid the taxes, if nothing else. Most large player corps only charge 2 to 3%.
To avoid even seeing the chat window, all one need do is make it smaller than the overview window and toss it behind it. Assuming you don’t do that transparent window crap. Whoa, I am ranting a wall of text now, better go.
Mine safe and stay alert o7
