You complained about competition. If you don’t want competition, go where less people compete with you. Most of lowsec is empty, and hacking sites are plenty there and profitable. Hacking sites can be done in a 5M Imicus. One site pays for about 5 or more such Imicus to lose.
The fun in a competitive game comes from finding and executing the winning move, at least for me. Also I learned there are often multiple good moves, for cats and for mice, and if you don’t like your finding, skip the activity.
By doing PvE and make dank ISK if all PvE players suddenly go on strike?
My issue with this competition specifically is that we’re talking about different rewards. I’m not really interested in the loot that the bosses or the data sites drop, because I’m usually not lucky when it comes to RNG. I’m only interested in the rewards that I can’t even trade because they auto-apply when I redeem them. The items I and others who are working to get the points specifically want from this event literally don’t have any value to other people. From their perspective my rewards for completing the event don’t even exist. Yet we are still in the way of each other, even though we want to achieve different things.
Why the need for a over reaction at all - why shouldn’t a player be able to achieve the points through just data sites if they want to. The game is suppose to be fun not where only certain types of players succeed.
All players, regardless of skill points or play style should be able to succeed in these events.
I have stopped looking for them. after 10 hours of fruitless searching and one expensive gank up I have given up. I have better things to do with my life.
Oh, that’s pretty simple: alphas, we don’t even try to dip our toes into such a thing on day 1. We wait for the first wave of feedback. When it says “rats will point and neut you”, it’s clear enough that it’s not an event for fresh toons/players.
The wonderful irony, when AIR was supposed to be “the new NPE stuff”…
OTOH, as has been said already: the rewards for progressing in the event are utterly useless. Skins and 2h scan boosts? Auto trash. The whole thing has absolutely zero appeal, appart maybe from the fact that it’s new.
Skins are the only option to customize your ship’s appearance currently, some of the old discontinued skins go for over a billion on the market. And the loot also includes combat boosters, and cerebral accelerators that make you learn skills faster.
To me, that progression scale reads like: “with good efforts, you can gain mainly little helpers to further your efforts, in order to get three 30min boosters and three skins”. Ok, those 3 skins are not auto-apply, but I’m not interested enough to try and possibly cash in on them in a few months time.
If by “accelerator” you meant the 5k(α) / 15k(ω) SP from daily login, that’s not much. And they don’t come from progressing through the event.
I’m not complaining, mind you: it’s free stuff on one side, and just another part of the game that I’m not taking part of on the other. This content is just something I won’t take part in, it doesn’t mean it’s “bad” or anything.
I don’t know what the issue with the data sites is. This event has been some of the most rewarding time I’ve had since starting the game (only 4 months, so maybe not that much else to compare it to). I just tool around in low-sec in a 7mill heron, trying to scan and hack the sites before anyone else. I find between 2-5 an hour, with a rough average of 30-40mill per site (worst was 2mill in null-sec, best was this morning in Black Rise of 235mill). And from the amount of people flying around in Asteros, Buzzards, Probes and Herons, there’s plenty of competition for the sites too. I’ve been chased off several times, ambushed and killed a few times, killed by a gate camp and even managed to ambush and kill someone on a site (and get 25mill from the can, in addition to looting their wreck). It’s been a blast. I’ve more than doubled my income this week from the event, and had a blast doing it - but I haven’t even tried to do it in high-sec, so maybe that’s why my experience is different - the sites in low-sec seem to spawn widely and relatively frequently.
The accelerator boosters drop from the bosses of the combat sites and can be found in the data sites. As well as other skins and overseer boxes that sell for several millions.
My main problem with the data sites is their rarity.
Based on your experience, you would need about 40-100 hours of active gamplay to get most of the point based loot from this event, all of this during a 10 days long period. That is just way too much time to spend playing, especially if you have other things to take care of, like school or your job.
Your approach from a niche roleplay perspective is the problem not the sites. Most players I presume don’t care about the points but just want to make bank and have fun.
It’s like this because of the free alpha accounts. If you could trade the rewards, people would farm them with alpha clones and then flood the market to make a significant amount of money. There isn’t really a good solution here.
Is this your first big event?
The actually useful loot is coming from completing the sites, so there is value in doing them. The drop rate is a different question… as I mentioned, I have negative luck when it comes to RNG.
Except that you cannot fly an Alpha at the same time as any other Alpha or Omega. So a player cannot farm anything with Alphas more than one at a time…
Their point was on the log in rewards and why they are auto apply.
Apparently, having cheap skins that can be bpught on the market is a problem for… Somebody.
CCP I guess but why theyd sell these skins in the store Im not sure. They dont seem very good. Looks like they only paint half the ship. Though the white 80s heron was nice.
