OKay, let me back up and clarify. Grieving itself is not subjective. Its a solid motive and intent for some people. What IS subjective is the criteria/evidence for proving its a motive and intent.
Griefing is using actions and words with the specific intent to cause grief in others. As such, I fully admit that proving intent is a judgement call.
This is not really the right question. Griefiing is the intent of the player/ poster. Identification and general agreement on who is griefing is helped by identifying and agreeing upon red flags and from there, making judgement calls.
Its easier to just identify abuse, by seeing things such as personal attacks, for example using words like “whiner” and “cry baby”. Those using such words repeatedly have a huge red flag for being a griefer. But there certainly is more evidence.
One other important aspect to this is that some people are not even aware of their own inner motivation to come online and just being a pain in the buttocks to other people. Unintentional griefers are real.
All my conspiracy theories finally have come to fruition, I used to think CCP was well meaning but just incompetent, turns out they’re evil geniuses who have found a target market that will keep giving them money no matter what changes they make in game, trolls. By making their game friendly to the people who are unwelcome, restricted, or outright banned in games with more active community management, they gain the loyalty of a customer base that is largely homogeneous both in player demographics and player behavior. Adorable, predictable little trolls who respond to the most basic of marketing stimulus and the lowest common denominators of gaming.
But that’s none of my business, the kid insulting us says i’m dismissing him, meanwhile i’m just sipping my tea.
I did all the above EXCEPT do it simply because of “disagreement”. As usual, complete misrepresentation of arguments is standard on this forum.
Further, it was never my intent to cause grief, but merely to inform someone they were failing to keep up. Its a bit weird to me that If I looked back at a runner in a foot race and yelled “You are too slow. Its obvious. Just quit already.” …that that’s okay. But in a debate its rude and considered trolling.
I direct you to Trump lawyers going to court and actually thinking they had valid cases for voter…uh…whatever the hell they were trying to prove. Just for being so stupid as to even try it, even if they did not believe in it, they should be disbarred. The idiotic shame of it should haunt them forever.

Besides, no matter how sarcastic, rude, and disrespectful I am, i’m just one person, and the gankbabies have an army of trolls and alts spamming these forums daily, they spew more hypocritical horse muck in the 5 minutes after someone posts a quitting thread than I have ever posted, on the internet, ever.
Well, so much for that thin veneer of “(‘griefing’) on the forums its all wrong, unconstructive and useless to all but the griefers who touch themselves when they see it.” you like, eh? Really doesn’t take much at all for some folk’s true colours to fly.
The problem here is that you describe doing things in an utterly foolish way, and it went wrong, and then instead of saying to yourself “why did this happen, and what could I do better” you get mad at the game and it’s players.
I would never EVER take that kind of ship out solo into that kind of space to do what you did. I have not been an on and off player, I have played consistently since 2007. That’s possible for me because when something goes wrong, I start with ME and and not search for fault from outside, because I can control me, not every one else.
Don’t blame the game for your mistakes if you ever come back, the problem wasn’t the game, it was you.
Griefing is when someone does something you don’t like, and it makes you angry, or sad, or gives you some other negative and unwelcome emotion. It’s not specifically limited to trolls on the forums, or to gankers in the game.
Just the other day, I was mining an asteroid in a belt. Everything was going well, but then the other pilot in the belt put one of his beams on the asteroid I was mining. I politely asked him in local to not mine the rock I was mining, and was met with nothing but a “lol” and the switching of the rest of that pilot’s lasers to my rock. I didn’t need such grief that day, so I docked, logged off, and closed the game.
Just goes to show you that anyone can be a gankbaby, even miners.
