Rogue Swarm Alert 2018

this is not a true statement !

Forgive me if this is known or intended, but I donā€™t do hacking often enough to know myself. Is anybody else noticing the various nodes you have to defeat to get passed constantly ā€œhealingā€ their points? I noticed if I donā€™t kill them as soon as I find them instead of going around them, theyā€™ll later on amass enough points to get into triple digits; pretty much impossible to get passed just one without failing the hack to do so, let alone complete the hack. The very few times Iā€™ve ran normal sites and used hacking I donā€™t recall ever seeing that bull crap ever happening. I keep thinking ā€œwhy the hell not, itā€™s already a fā€™king click-fest, so might as well.ā€

I donā€™t kill everything, but I always kill restoration nodes as soon as I uncover them.

The hacking difficulty of the event sites may be a bit higher than that of normal hi-sec hacking sites. The ā€œRestoration Nodeā€ is one that has to be killed ASAP or it will heal another node (except for itself and the System Core) every turn. If youā€™re in a ship without hacking bonuses and have a low hacking skill level, then it might not be possible to destroy 2 of those nodes without using powerups. But there is no penalty for failing the hack and you can simply try again.

Yeah, but I mean they keep restoring their points with or without one present. Are they suppose to restore points even if not uncovered? And can they restore other nodesā€™ points continuously like that well past their normal initial limits? And do they heal more than one per turn, 'cause they were for me?

But they arent fun

Itā€™s free content, Itā€™s available even to new capsulers without great skills and you get accelerators, BPC, bountiesā€¦.

I like it! congrats CCP

If a restoration node is uncovered it will up health continuously all other normal nodes while existing. So you must kill it ASAP.

The hacking game this time is medium difficulty, which you normally find in lowsec. Yes, there is also a hard version for null / WH folks ā€¦

Restoration nodes only heal other nodes once uncovered, and only heal one node at a time (once per move). However, they can heal nodes past their initial HP. As others have said, it is critical that you clear restoration nodes as soon as you uncover them.

If you are having trouble with hacking, the long term solution is to train Hacking to V and use a T2 Data Analyzer. However, that doesnā€™t help much for this event. So for this event, I recommend using a bonused ship like the Stratios. Iā€™ve also seen people run the site in Asteros and even an Imicus!, but theyā€™ll take longer to kill the BS -which puts you at risk of competitors and the BS warping off. If you donā€™t go with a bonused ship, slap a memetic algorithm bank on it. You will still fail hacks, but I assure you that it is possible (maybe 50% fail rate). Unfortunately, things will be more luck dependent, as pickups will be far more essential and bad nodes will be far bigger obstacles.

Hacking Game Tips

  1. Move around the edges of the board (Bad nodes lock down fewer surrounding nodes & Systems nodes seem to frequently spawn around the edges)
  2. Systems nodes seem to spawn (a) on edges, (b) away from starting point, and Ā© in the lockdown areas of other nodes. Of course, none of this is guaranteed, but with a little experience, youā€™ll start to get a feel for where the system node is likely to be.
  3. Always kill Restoration Nodes (looks like a spoked wheel) as soon as they spawn.
  4. Antivirus Nodes (chompers) hit hard. I stay away from them unless I start running out of options
  5. Data Cache Nodes (white sphere) can be good or bad. I stay away from them unless my health is really low and I have nothing to lose.
  6. I try to use Polymorphic Shields (Shield) shields against Antivirus Nodes (chompers)
  7. I try to use Kernel Rots (Down Finger) against Nodes which have been healed.
  8. And, of course, use Self Repairs (Wrench) to heal yourself every move for 3 moves. Click on empty nodes if you are really low on health and need a boost before attacking.

Alright, that should be everything you need to know for these containers.

That tells me I should have bug reported what I saw then. If the unanimous understanding is that a restoration node heals other nodes ONLY when it is discovered and not until then, then that means what I saw was a bug. One of the first sites I ran I noticed a couple of firewalls and antivirus nodes healing even without a restoration node exposed. Iā€™m also pretty sure I noticed them all healing at 20 points each simultaneously each turn I ignored them, which if I understand it again should not have been the case. It so far hasnā€™t happened yet again, but Iā€™m looking for it if it does. Admittedly eye-witness testimony by itself is terrible proof actually, especially without indisputable physical evidence to back it up. In the mean time, swapping out my Lokiā€™s defensive sub for an ELA (or what ever itā€™s called today) seems to have significantly lowered the failure rate. Itā€™s just enough to drop the number of turns needed to kill nodes by one. Iā€™ve also since found that replacing Mjolnir for Scourge makes running them a bit faster, too. I still hate the hacking and so far even more so now that Iā€™ve spent more intimate time with it. Subjective opinion that it might be, but what maniac thought this was fun? Probably the same that thought ā€œclick to redeemā€ was good enough to bring back I bet. They both achieve the same irritation in my mindā€¦making my wrist sore sooner.

Now that Iā€™ve ready through this thread, I can also say that I notice all exposed nodes healing simultaneously when a restoration node is uncovered, not just one random node

Have hacked thousands of sites, never happened to me ā€¦ you probably just missed the node on the grid.

What does you fitting look like, if you donā€™t mind sharing that. I did one almost by myself, in an Algos, but had to warp away before my cap fizzled out and somebody in a Catalyst was there when I got back.
I curious for good Algos fits but canā€™t find any in the forums, so far.

More than likely. Which is why I havenā€™t bug reported it yet. Pretty certain multiple nodes were healing simultaneously, though, which is what I noticed first. If I see it happen again though Iā€™ll be all over it like stink on things that stink. Either way, +10 virus strength is going quite the mile for sure so Iā€™m a lot less annoyed for it. I already had hacking at 5 and tech 2 data analyzer, so I was pleasantly surprised that one little bump was all I needed to make the hacking night and day. I still dislike it, but at least Iā€™m not failing five or more times each site like I was before.

Are these sites appearing in all systems? Found a wormhole that had no wreckage and no beacon.

Sure, I donā€™t mind sharing!

Iā€™m flying a modification of an old Algos fit Iā€™ve been using for a while. I swapped some of the guns for a salvager, switched the adaptive invulnerability field for a data analyzer and brought some salvage drones (which turn out to be useless).

Itā€™s not really optimized, but works fine for me for this event. Fit tier II or I according to your skills and ISK. Now that I think of it, another salvager or two wouldnā€™t hurt.

Whoa, I was so wrong. I always avoided these centers because if something spawned it would block the whole passage. Thanks for this.

For some reason they are not spawning in all wormholes and in some wormholes they are spawning three sites so I guess CCP is fixing this but I am still waiting as I have not been able to actively work on these sites since I do not have any in my hole. I did get to try one in a neighboring hole but I did not like my fit so I kept having to go through the hole putting mass on it with each pass so it was a pain to do it in another hole. Cant wait for this to actually get fixed and be able to try it out the right way. Even though I, and a bunch of other wormholers as usual, are getting screwed because of this as we have lost almost a week so far and will be a week by the time they ā€œfixā€ it.
