Schisms have rocked the Amarrian Orthodox Church, Sedevacantist. Disgruntled sedevacantists have rejected a recent sermon by capsuleer and de facto church leader Nauplius which solemnly announced that the church’s so-called “Mother of the True Emperor” had broken off contact and planned to renounce her role as Blessed Mother. At least two splinter factions have emerged.
One group, led by ethnically Khanid Sedevacantist Church Acolyte Jargalyn Vantor, espouses what it calls “direct action” against the church’s enemies. Claiming that the Blessed Mother had been manipulated by a dark figure it names “The Defiler”, it calls for violent attacks to “liberate” the Blessed Mother from her clutches and what it says is “liberal, abolitionist” brainwashing from the capsuleer Alliance LUMEN, of which both The Defiler and the Blessed Mother are a part. Although the Sedevacantist Church is known to have stockpiled weapons, including Prototype Nuclear Small Arms, it is unknown whether the “direct action” faction had managed to acquire any of them.
A second group, led by Achuran Kira Shidome, a Lector within the Sedevacantist Church, claimed that Nauplius became a “fallen prophet” with the initial revelation of the Blessed Mother. According to them, everything preached by Nauplius before the Blessed Mother was identified remains true, but that God had not yet made any indication as to who the mother of the Church’s coming True Emperor would be. There is apparently considerable overlap with this group and those who came to sedevacantism through the Purity of the Throne movement, which rejects Amarr Empress Catiz due to what it considers her inferior, Udorian heritage; they seek a True Emperor of True Amarr or at least Khanid blood.
For his part, Nauplius has preached the revelation of the Blessed Mother remains valid and that someday she will take up her destiny as Mother of the True Emperor, although many trials and twists of fate may occur before then. He encourages his followers to hold fast to the “Truth of the Vacant Throne”. As controller of the Church’s finances, Mr. Nauplius has at least one advantage over the schismatics, especially on the Jin-Mei homeworld where the sedevacantists have built some degree of infrustructure.
