Hello CSM. Myself and many others would like to share a hanger with characters that is not in corp. Apparantly this cant be done with ACL because of lag. But what if there was another way?
Its basically anchored secure containers in stations. When you open the tab all the secure hangers in the station is visible but if you try to access one of them it will ask for a password. Has that already been considered? Kind regards Kane
Only one member of your corporation needs to be a spy to secretly leak this password to anyone else who can then pull all those secure containers empty without a trace.
You wouldn’t even get to know who the spy is, as the logs show a character that is not in any way linked to them, as leaking passwords happens out of the game, unlike ACL access.
This means no repercussions for the spy and nothing to stop them from doing it again once you set up a new password and new items in those containers.
If this works and is introduced then in for example Jita there might be 2000+ Secure hangars after a while and finding your own can be a pita. New feature whree you tag an item with “Always on top” might be possible and solve this. This might also be useful in other situations.
Unused secure hangars should probably be removed after a while even if they contain items. They will go back to the Item Hangar of the person that first created the Shared Hangar. Lets discuss or not.
Intention of you or the devs is not very relevant for how players will use the tools they’re given.
If you design it well players will use it as you intended.
In this case people will likely log in on an unknown alt, put in the password they know and steal everything as this leaves zero trace to the original spy as result of your suggestion.
Spying and stealing is all a part of EVE, but generally people burn bridges behind them when they do so at scale. Your suggestion allows people to steal without trace.
Even if it’s meant for alts (which you never stated until now), people can still brute force open containers and steal contents. The amount of lag this interface could cause in popular stations like Jita 4-4 would also make this untenable, as I’m sure many traders and indy folks would understand.
If someone manages to brute force a container all power to them. Its like ganking except praying on weak passwords. However there are methods to prevent brute forcing if it isnt desired. For example limit the number of password attempts.
That would be easier to detect than to pull off. For example i dont see CCP condoning brute forcing containers like that if it was possible, and they would detect it so fast and ban? but i see them condoning opening containers using passwords obtained via for example spying. It seems fine.
Even when you log in to game you use a password, some use 2FA too, but how concerned are you with accounts being brute forced?
Public secure containers serve a bigger purpose in stations than in space, but they are only a thing in space at the moment. The ones in stations should have much more room than the ones in space tho.
Secure hangers opens up for a new scam where jita spammers give a lucky player access. It has maybe a new ship in it. And then the player is like this secure hanger is pretty sweet i will use it going forward. And then the jita spammer will just wait until the value inside gets big enough before he empties it out.
What mistake did the lucky player make? He didnt realise the jita spammer also had access to the hangar.
There is a difference between creating a thousand characters and using scripts to guess the password compared to for example spying or some other means. The former is a kind of botting and its usually not allowed.
By the way do you think i am against people breaking into these?
i think without calling you an alt of someone but instead treating you as a newbie…
You should stop posting…period…and go play the game, get some experience of the who, what, and why’s…try that for 6 months, then come back to the forums.
