Should High-Sec Actually Be Safe? ☠️

But hold on, what about all the people who were so fervently proclaiming that the entire game would straight up die if high sec suicide ganking was nerfed in any way, shape, or form?

Are you telling me that 0.4% of ship destruction is all that stands between us and the servers being shut down?

Haha yep. Makes you wonder why people make up so many sob stories about getting ganked in high sec

Probably because, while it affects a very tiny portion of the population, for those who are affected it’s a super shitty experience.

Definitely did not enjoy losing my first marauder within days of my getting it to a suicide ganking multiboxer.

@Done25 I bet you learned from your mistakes and are a better player now after the loss of your first marauder.

The best part of EvE is the high (relative to other MMO’s) cost of failure.

Removing that will drive away the dedicated playerbase.

Then go join a large null sec corporation, learn some good skills, and be protected. Train up to one of those Rorqualls and mine with the bog boys. Problem solved.

And it’s not a super shitty experience, because all it means is that you need to get good. Good players don’t get ganked in High Sec. If that doesn’t tell you something, then you’re a bad player. Go to null and learn something.

Sheesh…..I was starting to worry that we wouldn’t see Cathy Newman style ‘ so you’re saying that…..?’ here any more. Thank you for confirming that particular logical fallacy is alive and well

I learned that high sec is a fish in barrel deathtrap, and have never returned since. I honestly think “high sec” is legitimately the most dangerous area in the game. But yes I did learn things. From this loss and others.

  1. Don’t get caught. No amount of tank will save you from players specifically fit to kill other players. Even if you do manage to return fire? A PvE ship won’t have any tackle to hold them down with once they get low.
  2. Spam D-scan on CD. If you see combat probes? Immediately warp out and get a new mission. Even if they “leave” system, and nothing shows on D-scan? It’s entirely possible they’re in a combat recon, or a cloak, and have set up a log off trap for when you return to the site.
  3. Gating battleships is for people who want to lose them. Put a ship in each mission system, and leave it there.

I’m not the one who’s been making those claims. Point not the finger at me.

It’s not a fish in a barrel. Good players don’t get ganked.

No amount of tank? I’ve got an Orca with 1,000,000 EHP that would beg to differ. I’ve got an Avalanche with 800,000 EHP that would beg to differ. I also have a Bowhead with 800,000.

I don’t spam D-Scan. I will mine for hours (If I ever got that much free time to mine) without once using D-Scan. Ever. I use D-Scan offensively. No one ganks my mining ships in High Sec.

An example of using it offensively in High Sec: A couple of months ago, I sat in deep space, but within D-Scan range of my target- I camped his moon ore field that was over 90% Glistening Zeolite for 3 days after I war deced him. I made sure he didn’t mine it. If he had warped in to mine with his Orca, I had my Kronos parked nearby. When the 3 days were up, his entire moon ore field expired and vanished. I then blew up his Athanor.

But using it defensively in High Sec? I haven’t had a reason to.

Gating battleships? I fly battleships from one corner of the galaxy to another. Losing a battleship on a gate is extremely rare. I’ve gated everything from a Praxis to a Marauder and never lost one to a gate camp.

At some point, you have to ask yourself what YOU are doing wrong.

Sounds like paranoia.

I the last two days I have, like every 3 months, completed all 4 HS L4 Epic Arcs. That means 100+ jumps and hours over hours in Mission Sites in HS. In a Marauder, nicely skinned, old character, looking like a nice target to gank if you would want to gank one. I neither fitted a crazy huge tank nor used a scout or anything.

And guess what, absolutely nothing happened. I made like 2B from all the loot and rewards and tags and traveled through all the usual “hotspots” and PvE areas around the market hubs. Nothing. I didn’t even had a competent ganking crew in any local or on Dscan.

Same goes for my Abyssalrunner. Sometimes I take a day off from all the alliance business and just run HighTier Abyssals. In HS. In a multibillion ISK Ship. Losses so far to gankers: Zero. And that ship is alive and prints money for years now.

Same goes for all our WH profits. We bring billions over billions in loot and produced items out of JSpace to the market hubs. In Blockade Runners, Deep Space Transports. Sometimes Orcas if it is compressed Ore or Gas. Again, losses to gankers play absolutely no role. Its maybe once a year that we lose a ship to a gank. From 100+ runs. And thats mostly if the pilot was lazy and used autopilot or didn’t bother to cloak/mwd. Thats not even worth debating about.

HS is 99% safe as it is right now. Totally beyond me how anyone can even remotely think that space is dangerous. Try to do a Mining Ops in Lowsec with Orcas and Exhumers and see if you can even mine back the worth of your ships before they blow up. In HS you can mine a year without seeing a ganker and have your ship’s worth back like a 100 times.

Is that why they are making a new region for new players? So High sec can keep being the place for new players, or maybe because they don’t want HS to be where new players learn the game. This argument is short sighted and fails to account for the future. High sec has thousands of systems, that is just too much space to be about the new player.

Most people complaining about gankers aren’t even “new players”.

See:

Pilots in Marauders aren’t new players and definitely don’t need any kind of “Newbro protection mechanics”. Same goes for people mining in Orcas, Exhumers, hauling in Freighters or Jumpfreighters etc. pp…

Oh I know, I’m just tired of people saying new players when that -argument- (shield) is effectively dead now.

Ah yes…I forgot….you’re the ‘ I never said xyz….’ person.

Youre a very inexperienced player, theres no doubting that. There is just so much wrong advice that was given to you.

Drop a mission over combat probes? Gating battleships? Put a ship in every system?

Wha?

Step 1) Make wild claim not based in reality

Step 2) Deny you said that

Step 3) Repeat

I was going to cite the first venture HS gank of the day was just insane, but I do not wish to name and shame. The venture had a Small Tractor Beam I making it worth that drop. The ganker lost a 1 .7 million. Which was a 300,000 ISK profit at that point. Then for some unknown reason the ganker returns with a fully fitted Talos ( attack battlecruiser ) and loses the 136 million ISK ship to CONCORD as well.

Fly Safe o7

Another interesting thing (I thought):

Looking at the last 90 days, venture kills with the highsec gank tag take place in only 53 systems.

The top 5 of those systems account for 164 of the 259 kills.

The median number of kills among the 53 systems is 1.

would love to see that fit and the cost for said fit.

We have an orca pilot in our corp that also heats his ehp to 1,000,000. I may have the fit saved.
