Skilling Spree - THANK YOU CCP

Sorry not sure why I replied to you was more of a general post.

Out of interest if CCP released a mid state where it had more skills than alpha and less skills than omega but costed half the sub cost (or plex cost in game) would that be something worth considering for those that can’t be omega but are complaining about alpha being too limited.

For example 1x training speed, T2 specializations up to skill 3 but can’t do anything capital related.

Can probably do all content in game solo but less efficiently than an omega, there is incentive for them to upgrade to omega eventually when they want to progress and it allows alpha’s to take a smaller step into the universe of eve when they feel alpha’s are becoming too limiting to them but don’t want to commit fully to omega just yet.

So you’re talking about multi-boxing alphas yes?

Which I’m not.

It was wide spread in distribution missions. Now i don’t think they should have locked em out of level 4 security missions and i said that at the time.

But the bottom line was ‘botting’

Not ‘i don’t like it!’

Capitals, cloaking, tech 1 ships only.

Alphas are locked out of a significant amount pvp game play and are gimped at any level they can play. And keep in mind, alphas were made to pvp.

Nope. Ccp will tell you alphas are not a trial account. They aren’t meant for trying out the game as much as simply being able to play eve for free.

Pretty much was in the dev blog or forums at the time.

Is this topic for the current event or whatever? I can’t do the skill spree event because i am unable to kill other players to get the daily reward. They are all better than me and have better everything than me. This event is a waste of time for me unless someone does not mind standing still for me while i kill their ship. I don’t know how to pvp anyway in this game but i can kill the pve things and thats about it. I suck at the game and im ok with that because i suck at playing a lot of games. But i like gaming and i like this game so i am not discouraged but i just wanted to let CCP know that the current event is to hard for me and im sure there are other out there that might have the same issue or not but still i am just horrible.

So if you see me in space please let me shoot down your ship so i can get points too and i am sorry that i am such a bad gamer on this game to have to resort to asking you guys to just let me kill your ship but thats my only way.

I guarantee that if you get into a blaster fit catalyst and fly around highsec, you will find somebody you can kill.

I’ve seen people asking in local for a kill me-kill you exchange.

Then what’s the problem?

You said:

So vets are using loads of alpha alts to pvp? Can you be more specific if it’s not multi-boxing?

Botting is different with alphas than omegas. You ban the alpha account and another one can be made at no cost. There’s a reason botting spiked with the birth of alphas. Alphas was part of the problem and so alphas were changed.

If you want them to act upon alphas in pvp perhaps show them how alphas are cheating at pvp, or otherwise a problem.

THE COULD BE BETTER

We have these great signs that Alpha access to EVE is something the world wants, but, on the other hand, we also see evidence that the current Alpha experience is too restricted to hold players long term. Being an Alpha is often described more like an infinite trial period than a true free experience, and our data seems to back that up. New players decide if the game is right for them very quickly, then either leave or subscribe rather than playing as an Alpha long term. Of course, more Omegas is fantastic but we think many of the players who leave might be willing to stay around if subscription didn’t feel like a requirement.

Expanded Alpha Set

That’s where the new skill list comes in. By expanding the amount of skills available to Alphas, the free experience will be much deeper and more powerful. We hope that with a stronger free experience, we see more players staying around to play as Alphas even if they can’t subscribe right away. This makes EVE even stronger for all pilots, for as we know players are the content in New Eden.

The blog hints at vague references to alphas blowing stuff up but haven’t found a direct reference to alphas meant to go blow stuff up.

And when you add these two things together, the result is?

What’s the relevance of this to this thread?

Hi Lucas, I thought I heard your voice :grinning: There is a good reason for allowing alpha’s to partake in pvp. It’s the game’s design, you see. It would be quite unfair of CCP to attract new players via alpha status and block them from the very core aspect of the game.
You say they are unrestricted in pvp, I say differently. Just look at the skills they’re allowed to level up and what limitations they have on the use and fitting of combat platforms.
All simple words, I know, but true nevertheless, as so many people have tried to explain to you.

He likes going through all threads to recite his mantra

Oh dont fall for this obvious trap.

He’s a big fan of pointing out PvP isnt just blowingup ships and that they are restricted from the actual money making parts of the game

I mean, the fact that its being argued over really is missing the point.

Alphas exist to REMOVE material from the game, not add it

Yeah you’re just being disingenuous now. How many times have i said they are restricted in certain pve parts expressly to limit botting and scaling with alts (the latter is also in the dev blog i linked)

They are restricted in pvp. They are weaker in all variants of pvp by level cap and have no access to certain mods and ships.

Is that the best you can come up with?

And you wonder why people aren’t worried about pvp alphas when this is the worst scenario you can think of…

You think this is as much a problem as all the botting that was going on?

Access to level4 missions.

The vni was changed because of botters in general.

Alphas used to be able to use tech2 medium drones but now have the skill limited to level4.

Access to FW regarding ventures and warp stabs were changed due to botters in general.

Not jumping in on the back-and-forth between you guys, but just wanted to reply to this point. Because it’s come up in other threads what Alphas were ‘meant to do’ or not.

Without specifically listing features and behaviours, Alphas were clearly meant and announced to be able to play and experience the game of EVE enough to learn it, participate in it, enjoy it, and hopefully become interested enough in it to become long-term players and hopefully payers.

Now if ‘blowing stuff up and getting blown up’ isn’t an absolutely essential core experience for EVE that simply must be available in order to learn, participate in and get engaged with EVE… then I’ve obviously been playing some other game for over a decade now.

As you yourself are already aware, it doesn’t need a specific mention from the devs any more than when telling people “now take a deep breath” you need to remind them “oh yeah but remember you need air for that”.

So aside from getting rid of alphas completely, what are ccp supposed to do about alphas running anoms?

So?

They were botted a lot by alphas. End of.

If you have a suggestion to stop players botting in null, have at it.

So…

I have repeatedly posted about how alphas shouldn’t have access to faction ships. But I’m not sure ccp have a way to do it. Access to ships/mods is all done by skill books. Hence the medium drone change.

Alpha’s have restrictions on those parts of the game, just like they already have on combat pvp. You want more restrictions on combat pvp, I say that’s not necessary. And no, a discussion on what core parts are of Eve would only lead to a pointless discussion on what THE core part is. I’ve observed your knack for creating distractions that move posters away from your flawed premise.

Looks like we’re at that point again.

You’re being absolutist.

Alphas can do combat, but they can’t do it in AFs and HACs and T3s and with advanced weapons systems and skills. They can do enough combat to participate.

Alphas can do exploration, trade, mining and industry. They can’t do it at an advanced level, just like they can’t do combat at an advanced level. They can certainly do enough of it to see how they like it and if they want to do more of it.

That’s pretty much what F2P/Alpha/unlimited length trial status is about.

And how do you change that without opening it to bots…
