SPACE IS WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!

No blur:

I think I found your problem.

I would have never guessed that was taken in Kor-Azor. Kor-Azor is one of the most beautiful regions in the game. Precisely for this bright part you posted here:

This is Domain, one of the regions with the brightest visuals in the game:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these pictures when it comes to image quality. Rather, I feel it’s a personal preference whether one likes such bright images or not. I do. I love Domain visuals, they look fantastic. Some people might not like it. Turn off your background then, problem solved.

EVE has so much variety. Here is a region (Placid) with mostly dark background, except for one nebula there:

Looks very beautiful.

I see nothing wrong with it (Korsiki):

Jita, undocking and looking right back to the station. Looks totally playable to me.

Turned Camera to the brightest background cloud in the system. Still totally playable for me.

Ingame brightness is set to 50 btw.

It’s about how it compares to other sky boxes and the UI. Which part of “it’s brighter than any other by a large amount” don’t you get.

There is no REASON for it to be as bright as it is compared to other ones.

Seriously, stop being dumb. Do you REALLY think a bright blue white makes any sense as a background.

First of all I don’t see this on the images I posted, and I still don’t see a difference on the account where I turned it off. Does it work with Shader Quality set to low? You spotted that I have blur on from the screens I posted?

Second. I prefer the one with blur, it is darker which then makes it easier to read.

As others have pointed out, all areas have dark and bright spots. I’d say some areas of the skybox around Amarr aren’t significantly less bright than around Jita…

It’s about variety and tbh I don’t hear people complain very often. And from those complaining, 90% simply have issues with setting up their monitor/OS/GPUdriver/ingame settings properly to give out a nice image. The Scenery definitely isn’t “WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!” for the usual player.

Most people can fix their image problems with a proper setup:

  • step1: care for a good ambient lighting, your Monitor should not be the only light source within an otherwise dark vision area, make sure to have indirect “ambient light” behind and around it.
  • Step2: google or youtube your monitor model and check if there is an expert review with recommended settings for gaming, either HDR or non HDR → apply them
  • Step3: download a color-calibration file for your monitor or create a personal one by using the OS monitor calibration tool. Save it and apply it. If you want to use HDR, do a proper HDR calibration.
  • Step4: open your GPU drivers setup program, select the correct gamma value.
  • Step5: play around with your GPU settings (hue/saturation/contrast/brightness/image enhancement modes) until you have an excellent Desktop picture display. Use calibration images to check if dark areas are really dark and not just dark grey. Check if white areas are clear white but still show details, not a white cloud or have any blueish tints.
  • Step6: Open the game, undock in Jita, face the “bright cloud” and adjust the brightness-slider unless you get a good contrast between the almost white “center” and clear blue outliers.

The whole process might take you 20 minutes, but after that the image quality of EVE is really stunning and if any “I can’t see around Jita because everything is WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!”-problem is a problem with your vision/perception, in which case you check with an eye doctor.

That you personally dislike bright areas in a sci-fi space game… well, thats a you-problem as well. Look away, move to somewhere else or go play something else. Tbh, I have seen sceneries in Star Citizen that looked way more blinding than the skybox around Jita…

gamma/brightness. Setting can do wonders. Just saying.

Then it’s a you problem. A Ducati doesn’t help if you just can’t ride. :man_shrugging:

It’s not a problem in any other faction of space, the UI or even any other game.

Stop making excuses for bad dev choices.

Stop making excuses for living in a cave like a troll, turn on a light an your problem will go away.

My eyes are sensitive to light, and I’ve got zero issues because I play with a light on in the room brighter than the monitor. It’s not brain surgery to figure out that you don’t play bright games in dark rooms.

I’m not, stop making assumptions.

I don’t need to make an excuse. I like their choice. EVE looks absolutely nice and I don’t experience a problem like you describe. Maybe because I have set up my graphics and monitor settings properly.

Other parts of HS appear to have equally bright spots though, if you look at the other screenshots. Especially those pictures of Domain seem to be as bright as in Caldari space:

As High Princess, it’s my duty to settle these forum debates. I can see several different arguments, some more flawed than others, and without reading most of your posts I’d like to resolve this entire dispute. I’m sure @James_Fuchs will be here in a few days to confirm what I have written is actually quite right.

Now then, brightness levels. Below, you can see the lowest level. Since I am a space vampire, I dwell in darkness, and this suits me just fine.

Here is the brightest level.

Clearly, there is a solution here. I’d also like to take a moment and address Vokan, the carebear who is STILL salty at me for something that happened before I ever joined the game. Do you know how crazy that is? That’s crazy, you and your whole guild is nothing but crazy people. So look bro, you run too many accounts, on too small of screens, and that’s on you! Nobody cares about your personal problem seeing the screen. Maybe you should just get good.

As for Aisha and Syz, you guys can just disagree. I would suggest to CCP the brightness of Caldari space could be reduced, more so than other regions, but if you don’t like it… move! Nobody needs to live in Jita, I certainly don’t. In fact, although I’ve never been there, I’ve heard that it’s darker in nullsec!

The game looks a lot better on low brightness. For example, in the image below, you can see the iridescent outer atmosphere of a star.

Low shader has blur off, that’s why the box gets grayed out in low mode. I did not look at your screenshots with that in mind at first, I just pointed it out where you can find the option for blur. But now that I look at them, I don’t see blur on your images, no.

I also prefer blur on, by the way. But I’m in full transparency mode.

Here’s Kor-Azor in its full bright glory:

Absolutely gorgeous, if you asked me. Then if you turn the camera around a bit, you get this:
