Most players don’t necessarily “want high-sec.” They just want the lowest-hanging fruit possible.
CCP could put in an area of space tomorrow that has absolutely no combat, and plentiful “feeding troughs” that players can fly up to, press a single button, and money and minerals would be instantly be deposited into their inventories while “good job, you are a fearsome space commander!” messages would appear on their screens in bold, flashing letters. High-sec would become abandoned overnight if that were to happen. Would that mean that players didn’t want high-sec?
Likewise, if low-sec would be what high-sec is today, most players would consider that to be the “easiest possible default” setting for the game, and would play there, none the wiser about any more preferable alternatives because they wouldn’t actually exist.
Creating high-sec in its current form was one of CCP’s original mistakes when designing the game. The “basic” area should have been a mix between what high-sec and low-sec are today, with players having to adapt to a somewhat more punishing baseline experience that would also make them tougher and less prone to complaining all the time. Good FPS survival games have been doing it that way for a really long time now.
Actually, highsec didn’t start out so crappy and safe. There was a lot of danger, including highsec gate camps that could tank concord. Wardecs were ubiquitous for highsec corps.
Highsec has been made into a horrible safe space through many deliberate decisions by CCP to protect the complainers that couldn’t countenance the loss of their internet spaceships.
Gankers are the worse. I had to be admitted into an in-patient behavioral health unit in Salt Lake City Utah for Cognitive Processing and Delectable anit ganking therapy to recover from it. My job now has noticed my decline after being ganked and is offering me 50% severance pay from my 27 year position.
High sec was originally intended for the noob and the natural habitat of the bear. The bear however gravitated to null sec, highsec being taken over in large numbers by the whinebaby, nature creating the ganker to keep their numbers in check.
There are players who dont want to PvP. This game has pleanty to do without it. There are many players who want to sit back and fly around hauling, mining or killing AI without having to fear that toxic players like you hunting them down just to ruin their fun and enjoyment. I burned out hard in null sec wars over the years and just want to enjoy a almost retired life in high sec which is still a pain to try to do with suicide gankers. The crap needs to end. If you want to run around ganking go to nullsec or lowsec and fight people. farming Carebears and new players is toxic mentality.
