Never. This is all just light hearted supposition for the joy of gab. I would never try to have a serious discussion on this forum. That would be…against policy.
Those are clearly fantasy points of the EVE universe. They are not questioned because given certain tenets of the EVE universe, they make sense.
But if it was decided that in the EVE universe the word “green” meant red, and the word " red" meant “orange” you would start to hear complaints when people were dealing with that while purchasing skins.
What I am getting at is that there is “real world” overlap and its inescapable, as much as you try to paint EVE as being pure fantasy. Its not. If it were we could not even play it, because it would be written in a language we could not understand.
I’m not sure that gankers sacrifice any fun really, but totally agree that there are a number brain dead players losing ships to them, simply because they don’t do anything.
SOLUTION to ganking: Limit HS ganking to once per day per character. After a gank, attacker’s safety should be automatically set to green and cannot be changed until after downtime. If for some reason the safety has to be changeable after an attack, enable a faster concord response time (like 2 seconds). In real life, no one shoots an innocent person and gets arrested only to be released and shoots another person within the same hour. They need to be detained (or atleast the activity needs to be detained until the next downtime).
This will make gankers choose targets more carefully instead of ganking newbies out of boredom.
As a new player around 2011, It was an AMAZING experience to watch the various ships coast by on their journey to far off systems. Their autopilot mode offered new players an opportunity to gaze in amazement at the various ship designs CCP artists worked so hard to create. This experience allowed me to zoom in at ships I aspired to train into someday. These days, those pleasures are robbed from new players as ships decloak, immediately warp, jump, and repeat. Just remember, people got attracted to this game to see ships doing what we expect to see them do. Just think when you watched Star Trek or other space films, the best bits are the ships flying off somewhere. The more players can fly their ships and look at other ships in space, the more people will fall in-love again with the game. Ganking started to happen so much that players in high security space spent more time running in paranoia than appreciating the joys and scenery, enabling their imagination to blend with the environment to create their own lore which brings them back for more. Most gankers are alts and get kills in other types of space. EVE doesn’t need career gankers! If that’s all they do in-game, they should be limited to one gank per day and learn some skills to give good fights. GFs give both sides a proud and rewarding learning experience; GG (good gank or good game) just means Game Over for someone. Not a good business model for a company I’ve already invested over $15,000 in subscriptions.
If player population gets too low, CCP as a company will fail and if that happens, we ALL lose everything we’ve invested (time, money, sacrifices). If you’re not going to contribute anything of value, then leave this forum. This is for serious investors only.
No one has ever shown that suicide ganking would be, or is, a significant cause of the games decline; and CCP would make drastic changes in the balance if they thought it was the case.
If you are a “serious investor” in the forum who believes a “solution” is needed, then hopefully you can have a good stab at it.
Well from 2011 to now, ganking has climaxed and player population decreased to the lowest i’ve ever seen. It would be sensible to try something new - restrict ganking and observe the effects over the next few years.
Gankers have always been a thing in eve.I do see the good and bad in it,but can you really call it risk when the ganker knows he will lose his ship and walk away?Miners just want to mine ok so got to live with the gankers. Most miners don’t want to pvp,but would fight off(or try) gankers.give the mining ships some way to hit back, not just a few useless drones.Myself have always thought some Q ships in the belts would be fun.Ganking is the only thing really in eve that has no counter move.Other than don’t be where the gankers are.
