Teddy Shi for CSM 20 - High-Sec's Voice, Industry's Choice

Greetings, New Eden and Fellow Capsuleers

TLDR / Summary

  • Long-time, experienced EVE player.
  • Truly independent candidate with no ties to any major alliances or corporations.
  • Focused on improving EVE for industrialists, miners, and PvE players.
  • Committed to being an accessible and transparent CSM member.

Quick intro about me outside of the game:

  • I am 21, based in Michigan, USA.
  • I have been very fortunate to attend several “local” in-person fleetups but I have never had a chance to attend a Fan Fest in Iceland.
    • My ticket I purchased actually got given away to a local because I couldn’t make it, which is pretty cool.
    • I also hosted a small in-person fleetup called “EVE Michigan” this past August, and currently am planning another for January
  • Professionally I have spent several years in sales, marketing and transportation. I have deep understanding of those fields inside and outside of space.

My EVE Online story:

I started playing EVE around ~2018 and I have been enthralled in the universe ever since. Since day one, I have been doing mining, industry and other PVE activities in every sector of space. I have lived in High-Sec, Low-Sec and Null-Sec, Both solo and a part of groups, in both SOV space and NPC space. I remember the rich times for the industrialist when Null-Sec was more resource dense and compression took 100 pieces of ore. While I know why things changed to get us where we are today I have ideas to keep making things better.

My areas of expertise:

  1. I have a very deep understanding of EVE online from the eyes of an industrialist. How we calculate the value between raw resources verses processed goods.
  2. I understand how events, large scale combat activities and other engagements affect the universe and the economy as a whole.
  3. I have a grasp of why certain changes have been made in the past related to industry and mining and the progress we’ve made.
  4. I also understand other aspects beyond my main platform and how they interact with industry. I fly in Gallente faction war on an alt, I do mission running and ratting both in High-Sec and Low-Sec space. All of which interact with industry in some way.
  5. Also, with being based in High-Sec I interact with newbros on a daily basis, and I have ideas to make their experience better, as in my opinion even with changes over the years we still have a high turnover rate of new pilots.

What qualities set me apart from other candidates?

  1. Most Importantly I am INDEPENDENT. I have no allegiance to any group, large or small. I am focused on the areas and gameplay I participate in. As an independent, my goal is to build coalitions with other non-bloc members and find common ground on issues that benefit the entire EVE universe, ensuring that our voices are not just heard, but are influential.
  2. I deeply care about what I would call the most important aspect of the game, industry, along with all activities that go with it, mining, planetary interaction, etc. And while industry is not flashy, it is typically the first thing new pilots do in the game and it is what allows the big fights to happen in Null-Sec. We are the backbone to EVE Online. I believe without improvements we may become rarer and more centralized between groups. Which can ultimately bad for the economy and the game as a whole.
  3. I also plan to be the most accessible CSM candidate and hopefully the most accessible CSM member. willing to go into shows and give interviews. Host regular talks about the changes that are being made during my time as CSM and be as transparent as my NDA will allow. I believe clarity is important for a CSM candidate and member.

Why am I applying for the CSM?

For too long, I have watched changes that negatively impact the industrial heart of New Eden and the experience of its newer citizens. I am running for CSM because it’s time to stop watching and start advocating for the changes that will ensure a healthy and balanced future for all players, not just those in the largest alliances.

My biggest focus areas for if I were elected would be:

  1. Continue improvements to the new player experience.
  2. Limit or nerf Metenox moon mining drills. While balancing this specific resource inputs like moon goo may cause temporary shifts, my long term goal is to address systemic issues in the production chain to make the final cost of ships, modules and ammo more accessible to all players.
  3. Find ways to balance and encourage the undocking of industrialists and miners. Ultimately more targets in space are good for the game. My goal here is to create a dynamic where undocking is more rewarding, encouraging activity in space.
  4. Make changes to mining lasers/strip miners/mining drones to encourage use of higher skills and tech II equipment.
  5. Work towards greater ship, module and ammo accessibility. The cost of large-scale assets have become prohibitive for many. Through a careful re-evaluation of resource chains and production inputs, I will advocate for changes that make fielding fleets and/or high-tier equipment more achievable, fostering more content for everyone.

What can players expect from me?

  • Expect me to listen to the player base and consider all parts of any problem before taking a stance if I even take a side at all.
  • Expect me to be humble towards the community and player base even with the monumental task that have commanded of me. While also confidently stepping up to CCP to communicate our opinions.
  • Expect me to bi-directionally communicate ideas and concerns from the players to CCP but also communicate any and all news I am able from CCP back to the community.
    • As much as I am able at least. As a CSM member they do give me an NDA.
  • Expect me to be knowledgeable and prepared for arguments and presentation because I will treat this post like I treat my career. It is that important. Ultimately I am elected by the people for the people.

Thank you for taking the time to read though this long post and possibly considering me as your candidate for CSM 20.

Here is some handmade promotional material.

Side note, because it wasn’t in the main post. Both bumper stickers I made myself using Canva. The 6 Obama-like posters I made by taking my profile image from evewho.com and I used obamapostermaker.com which is not AI. I am against using AI generated anything but especially art. So feel free to share these images along, knowing they were organically sourced.

Hello Teddy Shi, first of all good luck with your campaign :flexed_biceps: …and may the best will win ofc :sports_medal:
(I will great every candidate this way  )

Hope you find time to share your thoughts on below topics and game ideas.

1. EVE Vanguard
Have you had an occasion to try it during Operation Nemesis or earlier? What was your impression if any?

What do you think about bidirectional connection planned with EVE Online? Do you see it has a potential to attract more players towards New Eden? And do you think Capsuleers will benefit from it?

2. Information & ISK itemization
How about being able to take a notes from your notepad and put it as an item into container or ship cargo? Same with an amount of ISK? Just like you can do with PLEX.

More details https://forums.eveonline.com/t/information-itemization-put-notes-into-cargo-containers

Would you pitch CCP to consider implementing it?

3. Production Plans
Basically the idea behind this is to bundle all the BPOs (BPCs), required to produce some final product, say, an assembled Drake fully fitted according to some saved fit ready for duty, into a single BPO-like item, and internally arranged into an intricate production workflow. Complete with logistics tasks, if necessary, using delivery corp projects. It could use BPMN diagram editor to arrange.

When installed into industrial job slot it will churn out those Drakes, provided there are required materials in linked containers or pause until they are become available again.

More details https://forums.eveonline.com/t/feature-request-production-plans

Would you pitch CCP to consider implementing it? Or at least expand ESI to allow 3rd party developers to do it?

Hey, yeah I’d love to share a few of my opinions on these topics:

  1. I played Vanguard when it first was available in Alpha and Beta, it’s fine, I mean if you enjoy FPS type games, it’s definitely for you. I don’t play many so I can’t speak much on it. However I do like the idea of the events happening down there affecting how things happen in space and vice versa. If things are implemented similarly to how Dust 514 was, where from space we can help and such then it will truly become a never-before seen level of interaction between completely different styles of game, which is awesome
  2. I actually love the idea, while yes there is a much safer way to transport those good, having the ability to cargo them could add to lore of different corporations. I could hear the articles now about “Imperium Battleplans Stolen” or something similar. Still give the option to not have to do it in such matter, but it doesn’t sound like a bad thing either
  3. The last idea I love the concept but I also feel like it could feed into bots and other unwanted parts of the playerbase. Having a recipe craft forever turning out ships provided they can be funded, is kinda crazy, especially knowing you can pull resources from a corp hanger and output just the same. I know my stance may come as a surprise as that is ultimately quality-of-life but at the same time I do know there could be negative side-effects

If you have any additional questions or ideas, feel free to reach out

POLLS ARE OPEN! VOTE TEDDY SHI For CSM 20

Capsuleers, the time is NOW! Voting for the 20th Council of Stellar Management is officially open from today, October 27th, until November 10th

Let’s make sure High-Sec’s Voice and Industry’s Choice are strongly represented! Putting Teddy Shi as your #1 vote sends a clear message.

How to Make YOUR Vote Count (It’s Easy!)

EVE uses a ranked-choice voting system (STV). This means ranking more candidates make your vote stronger! Don’t just vote #1 - Fill out your ballot (up to 10 spots)

My Recommended Ballot for a Stronger High-Sec & Industry:

To maximized our impact and elect representatives who understand our play style, here is my official recommended ballot:

  1. @Teddy_Shi As High-Sec’s Voice and Industry’s Choice, my platform is dedicated to improving the core gameplay loops for the pilots who form the backbone of New Eden’s economy and population. From mining and manufacturing to mission running and Faction Warfare, I’m focused on making these activities more engaging and profitable, while also championing the New Player Experience. My goal is to be an accessible, independent voice representing these vital playstyles.
  2. @Mike_Azariah Mike is a legendary figure in EVE, known for his unwavering dedication to new players through his “Magic School Bus” initiative. He’s served multiple CSM terms, consistently advocating for High-Sec residents and the onboarding experience. His passion and long-term commitment make him an essential voice for the pilots I aim to represent.
  3. @Kshal_Aideron Kshal is the driving force behind EVE Rookies and Wormlife, massive communities focused on getting players undocked and experiencing all aspects of EVE. Her platform centers on the New Player Experience, community building, and accessibility. Having served on CSM 18, she understands the process and is a powerful advocate for bringing players together and improving retention.
  4. @Angry_Mustache While representing a null-sec bloc, Angry Mustache is undeniably one of the most knowledgeable voices on Industry and Economics in EVE. He has a proven track record from previous CSM terms of providing deep, data-driven feedback on industrial changes. Including him ensures that the complex needs of manufacturers and miners are addressed with expert insight, benefiting the entire economy.
  5. @The_Oz As an incumbent CSM member and respected economic analyst, The Oz provides invaluable insights into market trends and the flow of ISK in New Eden. His focus complements the industrial side of my platform, ensuring that economic health and sensible market mechanics remain a priority for the council.
  6. @Angel_Maelstorm Angel Maelstorm is running specifically to improve industry systems and the economy, with a stated focus on High-Sec and Low-Sec. As an independent candidate running a mining corporation, their perspective directly aligns with the industrial core of my platform and strengthens the voice for non-bloc industrial players.
  7. @Bexey_Songweaver Bexey is another dedicated High-Sec Industrialist whose platform highlights making industry work, with a specific mention of Planetary Interaction (PI) – a vital but often overlooked part of the industrial chain. Their experience adds valuable depth to the council’s understanding of High-Sec economic activities.
  8. @MILINT_ARC_Trooper Representing the PvE pillar of my platform, MILINT ARC Trooper explicitly focuses on the foundations of EVE: Industrialists, Mining, Hauling, Exploration, and PvE. Their aim to improve these activities, which feed the entire EVE ecosystem, makes them a crucial ally for mission runners and other PvE pilots.
  9. @Ankh_Lai Ankh Lai is championing the New Player Experience from the perspective of leading a High-Sec training corp. Their focus on practical improvements like fair ISK paths, better insurance, and accessible Epic Arcs directly addresses key pain points for new and returning players trying to establish themselves in High-Sec PvE.
  10. @youngpuke2 As an incumbent CSM member with a strong focus on Faction Warfare and Low-Sec, Youngpuke2 is the essential candidate for representing that aspect of my platform. He has a track record of working on FW improvements and advocating for the interests of players engaged in empire warfare and related Low-Sec activities.

What are your thoughts on the current state of ganking?

Ganking is a pretty popular activity in EVE Online, While I believe improvements need to continue to be made to protect new players, at the same time it is an acceptable form of content which drives markets and keeps demand for ships high. I think that as long as new players are kept safe, then ganking should be allowed to exist, even if it costs me a few ships through the years. Don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose.

A surprise but welcome endorsement. Thank you Teddy.

Absolutely!
