Thanks CCP for giving a friend of mine a gambling addiction

I know you try really hard to be funny, but you are not.

I see you said nothing about firing guns at strangers randomly in eve, that’s ok though

spending money is bad, but shooting guns around space in a beefed up battle waggon is good

here have a gun johnny, go out and shoot people, it’s just a game, they respawn

Obviously the problem is bigger than just CCP. If Al Gore hadn’t invented the Intertubes none of this would have happened. Thanks for nothing manbearpig.

When I was a kid, my Dad taught me and my brother to play poker using Lego bricks (whites were 10s, yellows were 50s, reds were 100s and blues were 500s) it was fun learning it but when we’d finished playing, Dad gave us a verry salient piece of advice that I still carry with me.

Sons, there are only two things you need to know about gambling

  1. There are thousands and thousands of very rich bookies but very few rich gamblers.

  2. Unless you are comfortable with the idea of literally taking out a lighter and setting fire to your money and physically burning it to ash, never gamble with actual money because you will always lose more than you will ever win.

The whole business model of gambling relies on suckers being willing to lose so that the person running the scheme gets rich and this applies in Eve as it does in real life.

It’s that simple.

Shopping must be hard, all those businesses out to make money

Ignoring from Zoiie who seems to be trolling. This is a serious issue. I’ve been ignoring it, but as someone that has a long and addictive history with microtransactions, Hypernet is lethal. I keep ignoring it as there are other things to focus on, but not everyone is so lucky.

The adrenaline rush I feel when looking at Hypernet gives me anxiety because I know what it can lead to. It’s easily the worst mechanic I’ve seen in Eve to date, just because of the ability to convert irl cash to plex for gambling. You are buying virtual casino chips to gamble with. Ultimately not everyone can introspectively look at their gambling/addiction issues and recognise the danger, and these people are at the most risk.

How this has slipped by most outlets is incredible. Please consider contacting Laymen Gaming, Jim Sterling, or other big gming industry personalities on youtube. You’d do good to get press on the issue.

@NickyYo Sorry Nicky, you are just late to the party. :woman_shrugging:

We had many discussions about that feature when it was introduced.

CCP doesnt budge. People had all kinds of doubts, discussed them all, including doubts about legality. Nothing more to add.

Filed your court case yet?

Please link the filing papers so we can read the details.

Thanks in advance

When do you plan the class action suit and in what juristiction and who is eligable?

Why are you posting all this? Are you trying to crowdfund for litigation?

There’s places for that. This is not one of them.

Hey everyone.

I’m just going to take a moment to remind everyone of our Forum Moderation Policy, particularly on trolling and off-topic posting. Gambling addiction is a serious issue so please try keep things on-topic so discussion can continue productively.

Additionally, I’d like to note that any individuals who feel that the Hypernet is encouraging negative behaviours in themselves can submit a ticket through the help centre to have the feature disabled.

Is this a joke? CCP did not gave your friend a gambling addiction, he already had one. And if it is that bad he should stop playing EVE and any other game that has mechanics based on chance. Glad I could help now let’s close this useless topic.

All it takes is for someone to commit suicide it be linked to this game and CCP will have to close doors.

Hypernet from the player’s point of view has horrible odds…how is that addictive because there are WAY better ways to get your fix if needed…

Why are you posting all this when all you have to do is submit a ticket to disable it for YOU or THEM, not everybody else.

Undocking is terrible odds, flying in space is terrible odds, jumping gates is terrible odds, and then I should buy more plex with real life money to buy a new ship.

“All it takes” makes that sound trivial, which is very far from the truth. That is a much more complex issue.

However, the PEGI 12 rating of EVE itself acknowledges that gambling can be present in games rated for 12 year olds:

So far from being a CCP issue, this might more broadly be a game industry issue in general, and not a risk to CCP’s business.

Ah, ok. So you have an issue to even understand what the difference between regular gameplay and actual gambling is.

And here I thought you where just trolling.

Turns out you are just too dumb to understand some obvious differences between completely unrelated things. My mistake I guess :joy:
