No updates for a long time, the game being in a bad state, most of CCP’s focus being elsewhere and Seleene going going “updates, well that’s going to take 18 months”.
Its entirely made up. World of Warcraft and EVE online seemed to peak around the same time. But that was when the original creators of the games had left for other endavours. And other people took over. Coincidentally thats when both games started to take a turn for the worse. And what did they do? They blamed the subscription model, of course. And these same people who are responsible for driving players away are still in charge because of this misconception. Other excuses they use is “its an old game”. They will make excuses to keep their jobs from now until the game is dead or whatever. Even the koreans who bought out CCP believed their excuses and didnt clean house. Amazing
But my point is the incompetence from CCP and Blizzard lead game developers is masked by blaming the subscription model. And it works. No-one seems to dare touch it again. Even tho it wasnt the problem. It was incompetence and a lower and lower standard in updates and general quality.
That’s my point… Noone has to be a business scholar to at least argue that proving a free demo. “freemium” alongside a paid subscription (the full product) The alpha program arguably kept the game going and provided a steady flow of new generation players. Sure, a premium only model would have worked in 2010 but that won’t pass in 2023.
Is that the hill you want to die on? You want to say that if we didn’t have the alpha program in EVE that the game would be better off?
Yah man, CCP has made some very questionable development decisions. Especially with UI, fixing bugs during the trig war, and so much more. A person can also argue they have done great things with player tutorials (new player experience), outlining various careers in EVE, and my favorite (killing the solo orca miner by making it a support ship )
Honestly, I am not a game developer. Literally the only coding experience I have was a high school senior class about making apps. I don’t have the right to call the developers bad at their job.
In closing, the things we see today in EVE and other MMOs are a wide variety of problems that you do identify correctly. It maybe just bad management (note I say management), it is also the fact there are a lot of subscription services out there, I disagree strongly that YES THIS IS AN OLD GAME YES, the original developers left long ago and that creates problems and extra work the devs need to do. It seems to be an inconvenient point for you, but EVE has issues with its code or CCP would have taken out POS towers years ago.
Your post smacks with just bias and a singular point of view while not considering other external/internal elements that are important. This is why a SWOT analysis is so handy in business.
Preach it brother. FACTS.
Based on?
If people have to pay before they can play the game they aren’t as likely to login because they have to invest money
You mean the normal expected surge all games get when they initially go free to play just because everyone is trying it out?
That snot a “fail” thats entirely expected, you’ll notice it spent years above the low point before the free to play launch, so i would deem that a success, as would anyone
You seem to think that the CEO is sitting there micromanaging things, hilmar doesn’t code for the game anymore and hasn’t done for decades, he hires people to deal with that for him, you seem to be convinced that a CEO of a company of this scale has anything to do with what actually changes lol
A true sign of the endtimes
Indeed, its called being smart and not dying, its pretty easy to do these days
Sheesh you do manage to have the most ass backwards thinking on everything.
Eve is not a ‘free to play game’. It is a pay game with a free and limited trial option that lets people at least have an intro to the game. It is not intended that people then play Alpha for 20 years under some illusion they are playing a ‘free to play game’ for the rest of time. If these people cannot afford to pay for Omega…guess what ? I don’t care.
Someone who does not have a single KB record in 20 years, either a kill or a loss, should not be commenting on anything that involves undocking. I stand by my comments.
Do I care enough to get embroiled in the same old forum garbage discussion? Maybe so.
First off, I have been killed quite a few times and the loss never showed up on a killboard. These were usually in nullsec. Several of the highsec gankers I have flown with also weren’t registered with zkill because they didn’t want to give away intel. True, they mostly ended up manually uploading some or all of the kills later.
In general, I find the whole “no killboard, so you don’t get a voice” argument both absurd and tryhard. Nobody takes it seriously - not even the people that repeatedly try to invoke it.
Thats a self fulfilling prophecy.
Of course immeadiately after the high water mark theres a drop.
How else could you know it was the high watermark?
I think you’ll find plenty do…especially when people are babbling on about the perils of PvP and there’s zero evidence they have ever done any. And it wouldn’t be so bad if that was just one individual but it has become a consistent theme here. Its the whole reason why the first thing I do when I see anyone whine about PvP in highsec is to look and see if they have ever actually been involved in any.
I usually don’t take people seriously if they whine about the existence of pvp in hisec, regardless of their clone status or killboards. Or those who start threads about the ceo of ccp. The only reason I can think of why this thread hasn’t been locked (although it is targeted at a ccp employee) is by explicit request to keep it open ?
Absolutely nothing to see here, except some foam.
old school runescape is an old game, and it’s more popular than ever. LOTRO (lord of the rings online) also made a new 10-year record high last year. so there’s no excuses.
We agree that this thread is an attack on the good Citizens of New Eden
This is damning evidence imo. Runescape was released 2 years before eve online. According to the player count it has tripled since 2013 (thats as far back as it goes) and there is almost 100k ppl online playing Runescape. What is CCPs excuse?

I feel like OP wants me to feel guilty about something.
Or be angry about something?
Should we uhh go on strike guys? (Waiting for the people who say they unsubbed their 20 accounts
)
Are we supposed to shame CCP?
Hold them accountable?
I haven’t figured it out.
Why do people want to be superheroes in some pixel game? Thinking they can save the game… The average player is just attempting to learn all the many ways to make ISK in this game They are learning basic PVP skills. How to play with others and so on…
Well, I guess they have that emotional attachment to EVE that I don’t have.
You could run for CSM @Wesfahrn
Just some random thoughts. Thanks for reading.
Maybe it’s time for CCP to bring back CCP Soundwave ?
Clearly this is a thread about Name changes.
NEVER!
Would like to congratulate our Mr CEO of this wonderful game and for the current possibility for us as a community to discover the Jove Stargates to hopefully one day be able to experience what you may have held onto ever so closely.
I yearn to perhaps one day visit the Jove Empire to discover more about their politics and culture.
You should never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity. But CCP has to know that Jove is the holy grail. It is what can actually bring the game back to a golden age. But they created Deathless and Zarzarkh instead. Something to think about i guess.
Don’t worry they won’t finish this either ^^
