I guess it’s region dependant. Outside of high-sec, you probably want a stealthy blockade runner. In high-sec, you definitely want a tanky deep space transport.
For me, it all depends on cargo.
- For very low volume, very high value cargo (e.g., BPOs, implants, etc.), I use a prop-mode Jackdaw (sub 1s align with Nomads).
- For low volume, high value cargo, I use a BR (covops cloak and sub 3s align with Nomads).
In highsec or lowsec (with no interdiction), either of these options is nigh untouchable short of a concentrated smartbombing or a littered field to decloak on entry. The former case can be countered with off-angle bounces. In the latter case, if decloaked, the BR still aligns in 3s, and you have the option to fit a warp core stabilizer. That won’t always save you, but if the tackler is low-skilled or not paying attention, it might.
- For higher volume, low-to-mid value cargo, I use a DST (beefy EHP and 10s align with cloak+MWD).
Like the BR, this can be caught with a littered entry field. Short of that, and as long as you don’t flub the cloak+MWD, it’s hard to catch in highsec or lowsec.
- For high volume, low value bulk cargo, I use a freighter. But only as a last resort, only in highsec, and only with the proper precautions. Usually, I’ll just contract to PushX and let someone else deal with it.
Ganking is here for a purpose: bring destruction in the Eve economy and on the long run, the first players to take advantage of ganking are the miners, haulers and industrialists themselves!
The miners wants to sell their ore at a good price, the haulers wants items to transports and the industrialists want to sell their production.
But for this economy to prosper, you need destruction so people will have to buy new ships, new modules etc. . And there is not enough pure pvp players to bring enough destruction.
So ganking can be seen as a kind of epidemic. It destroys some ships, modules but also some ore, minerals and as a whole make the economy better for everybody.
See it this way, if the miner in the next bell is ganked and lose his ship and his ore, this is a whole bunch of ore not reching the market and it makes your own ore more valuable. You just want not to be that ganked miner and it’s up to you to use the right ship, the right tactic to avoid being ganked!
It is not about number of players. It is about the constant nerf to make the antigankers safe as much as possible. Starting from wardec nerf to countless highsec ganking nerfs. They were crying for perfect safety probably before I was born and CCP is stupid enough to listen to them and slowly and surely dumbing this game to EVE Echoes.
So if they can be easily and 100% safe from wardecs how do you want to destroy their ships to spin the economy? Especially when they are never going to leave highsec ever? Suicide ganking is the only option left now.
But on the other hand you are rigtht that there isn’t enough of PvP players which is again because all those nerfs. Keep nerfing one content over and over and it is just natural that some of the players doing it will stop doing it or quit.
Then CCP should buff ganking quite a lot, because currently the “damage” ganking really does to “the economy” is totally insignificant compared to the amount of stuff mined, produced and transported every day. Just look at the 90days comparison values in destruction for the different areas and compare that to the value that “ganking” destroys.
NullSec destroyed: 90,5t ISK
LowSec destroyed: 36,2t ISK
JSpace destroyed: 20,2t ISK
Ganking destroyed: 3,7t ISK
So, we can conclude that he destruction of ganking isn’t what makes it useful to the game. It is the fear of being ganked. Because without that fear, people could (and would) mass-farm in max-efficiency grinding ships, transport goods totally afk and it would turn HS into a brain-afk moneyprinting zone. Which is totally against the design of the game in which the higher-risk areas should be the more lucrative ones.
Ganking also teaches players the absolute basics of PvP in a PvP game: always keep in mind that others might want to kill you, watch your environment and pay attention to what other people do all around you, use the tools provided by the game, be prepared to leave your current location if you believe something bad is about to happen, learn about ships, common fits and their abilities, fit your ship to make sure attackers have to pay a price and burden some effort for even trying to attack you, use proper planning and organizing when moving around expensive stuff…
So in away, ganking is a public service. It turns really bad players into better players.
The only thing about ganking (aka non-consensual PvP in HS) I dislike is the design. It is too mathematical, too much focused on insta-killing which inevitably leads to massmultiboxing. HS piracy would deserve a whole expansion and complete overhaul that redesignes that interaction between pirate, target and law-enforcement (even player-driven) from scratch.
Miners incur more loss from docking up and avoiding me, than they do from the actual ganks themselves.
And the hundreds of MTUs that die in silence!
I’ve killed thousands of MTUs.
It’s only silence because you can’t hear their screams in the vacuum.
Theres no crew so they can’t scream. But they do make a nice flash when they pop so lack of sound makes up for the silence! ![]()
There are usually a few maintenance techs.
Ok, but that’s a stretch when all it takes to get a warp drive is from rubbing 3 round rocks that were just there lying on the ground to get a warp drive. RP does have some drawbacks. ![]()
^ I’m totally lost?
In the lore of the EVE Universe, warp drives work by repeatedly “compressing” the vacuum between two polar discs, draining all energy neutrons and quarks from it. A laser-locked field is then created to hold the expanding depleted vacuum bubble until it envelops the entire ship, shifting the craft into Faster-Than-Light (FTL) speed.
It “used” to be that warp drive was from using round rocks found just lying there on the ground to make a warp drive and just brushed it off. I guess me continually calling them out on this on the forums got them to change their tune and come up with something else!
See, one player can make a difference! ![]()
Mine as well.
High sec or low sec, i fly my crane everywhere…and i havent been caught…yet. ![]()

I love that ship! How to tease EVE 101!

Lmfao, ok - I was completely oblivious to this! So basically you badgered them until then changed “3 rocks, a paperclip and a stick of gum” to the above…
No, last I read it was at least 3. They never explained how many for each ship class.
I’ve been badgering them for so long now… They killed my playstyle long ago I had nothing better to do than bust their butt while making a ton-o-isk while I paid for the game at least.
They’ve really gimped my Marauders. Maybe I should take a page from your book?
