Me either. I don’t currently have in game mates to do the upper combat filaments.
What about skills and ship like astero? Did you use SP injectors? They are really good at the beginning, save you a lot of time training skills.
I am succesfully hacking everything in LvL 3 exploration sites, using normal tech 2 modules and no hacking implant, but in astero. You dont have to hack everything tho, you can bring cargo scanner and see what is really worth hacking. Use MWD also.
Combat sites LVL 3 are more tricky, here you would need a ship that can tank without capacitor, and deal DPS without capacitor. Best to use is then passively shield tanked ship with lot of regen and missiles, not even drones as drones will be quickly destroyed by enemies. You need something like Caracal with rapid light missile launcher and afterburner. Light missile launcher with tech 2 missiles can deal good dps and have very good application. Its a skill intensive fit and you would also need a full set of shield hp implants, high grades, its expensive. Then its really easy, and only when you go to sleep while in the site you will lose a ship.
I will never understand why people blame the game company for prices players list.
I can’t use relic analyzer II since I’m new.
And some people told me I could do t2 combat with stabber but I’m having a hard time to fit it the best I can.
A few things here that have made me feel compelled to comment.
Firstly. I would have nothing against the event being extended. It might give me a chance to use some of the stuff thats going to become useless afterwards.
Secondly. I think CCP have done a really good job this time in creating an event that works for new players and provides a sufficient challenge for older players as well.
Thirdly. While it would be nice if new players could do “everything” in order to make the event scaleable for more seasoned players thats just not possible. If new player could run through l3 and l4 combat sites then veteran players would skate through them in a few minutes and make bank.
Fourth. I don’t agree at all with the assertion that you need to be omega to progress in this event. Almost every new player guide for APLHA players suggests that wormhole exploration as being a viable career path. The most difficult hacks in an enigmatic site are on par with the most difficult hacks in wormholes. While the success rate on these cans (the huge one) wont be 100% it is possible with alpha skills and a t1 frigate to get regular successes form these cans. T2 analysers and covert ops frigates are only needed for the mysterious sites and those are intended for more experienced players. In addition these new boosters are awesome and can significantly help with hacks and are dropping everywhere. AND……in wh’s you need to hack while watching local in case someone jumps in. In these sites you have complete safety and as an alpha should only feel time pressure in the enigmatic relic site.
Fifth. My biggest criticism of the event however was the entry/gateway to it. We had a few newer players in corp really struggling to get started given the “learning curve” associated with exploration. It’s easy to forget what its like to take on scanning and hacking at day 1 and given some of the conversations I’ve had over the last couple of weeks I’m wondering if a combat site should have been the entry point. For example I’ve seen one player complaining about not being able to scan sites and when he/she did it was taking to long. Turns out they had just slapped on hacking modules and probe launchers to the praxis they had been running missions with and couldnt understand why it would be better to “downgrade” to a heron which was something in their mind they had moved past.
Then you need to train the skills, buy skillbooks and inject, put skill into skillqueue, then you can use SP injectors to speed things up. Skills are a basic thing.
If you have some isk you can use some Frostline 'Clavicula' Integrated Analyzer - EVE Online Reference . It says data analyser but it is also a relic analyser (it do both).
You will have more virus strengh than the T1. With some event booster you can have the same as the T2 relic analyser.
Well, keep at it. Dunno if there will be another Who event, but there will be other events where these skills and ships will come in handy.
Between events, try out some combat mission running. Not nearly as interesting or challenging as Event Combat, but they’ll get you some practice at fits and blowing up stuff.
There will be no another Who event. One is already too much for some people.
Outside events there is whole game, all the ships, all the enemies, all the missions, all the systems… Playing only for one event is like picking the small cherry from the top of the cake and leaving the whole tasty cake not even trying it.
There were even no events for majority of this game history. It even had most ever players record before events were introduced.
Great post. CCP has more often used easily-accessible combat sites as the entry point for Events. The warp matrix convergence relic site could have been exposed to players on overview as a beacon to warp to, with no core probe scanning required, and been much easier for new players to figure out. Warp to beacon, admire the scenery, study the strange objects: “show info” says I need a relic analyzer. Other text might have explained how unusual this was, and that other “relic/data exploration sites” require core probe scanning. Maybe a link to more detailed explanations or tutorials about Exploration. We used to have a CCP-supported WIKI.
For the love of all that is good, please no more, I cannot stand to see the Launcher in its current state …
End this Qwerky and Fluffy as ■■■■ event right now … bring back the Dark and Murky Eve …
I found it really enlightening to be honest. Stuff thats just ingrained in me that i assume is explained somewhere for new players. Casting my mind back to when i did the career agents i do seem to remember finding the exploration one not very clear and muddling through. So this event really exposed some stuff for.
E.g. this happened
“ok so i want to try the event where do i start?”
“You need to scan down one of the relic sites”
“Where do I find those”
“The are all over the place. I know there are about 20 in system x. Try there”
“Ok I’m in system x. I cant see any of the sites”
“There are no red sigs in the system?”
“What are red sigs?”
“There are green and red sigs in systems. You can warp to green sigs but you have to use probes to scan down the red ones before you can warp to them”
“I cant see any of those”
“Ok do you have your probe scanner open. Press ALT P”
And so on. At least with combat sites everyone gets point and shoot
Lighten up
Xmas wasn’t that long ago. The festive cheer cant be all gone already
To be honest one just have to do the career agents missions for exploration in order to understand how scanning and probes work, and to do that you just need to read the quest text, so it’s not that difficult.
And once you finish those quests, you get a free exploration ship. The event “preparation” page has most of the required informations and give us all the basics to play.
The first combat site is good for new players as well, but the second is just too hard / require too many lv4 skills / require too many tech 2 items.
I’ve lost a rupture and a stabber both fitted for around 50M, but my last attempt with the stabber was almost successful so it would have been possible with two more weeks of skill training.
Oh and I know there’s more to Eve than just an event but it’s what drove me (and a lot of others ) here in the first place, so it would make sense to see it return in the future.
It’s very rare that developers would create content with items, maps, enemies models etc for only one-time use.
If you have another friend you want to bring in, for like the next event, you have on your account page, a referral link you can create (you can use it yourself too) that you can have a friend, or another account for yourself, create a new account and upon logging in, have 1 mil SP points waiting.
It’s not a complaint, it’s just how valuable those things are considered by some. If I was to complain about anything it is that the existence of plex enables those with more real money than they know what to do with to play a different flavor if Eve than Joe Schmoes like me. But game makers have to eat too.
Absolutely! It is so easy to forget what it was like not to know or have a clue.
One can get a reminder of being clueless by trying to teach a first grader how to multiply. They usually don’t have the prerequisites and you’ll see very quickly what assumptions you have been making that aren’t valid.
Even some of the saints who make YouTube videos teaching Eve stuff fall prey to this, using terms and assuming skills and reflexes that new players will not understand. But like folks have said, Eve does not have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff.
They actually reused things for this that they have created for previous content. The one thing that was new was the wrap around space.
Kudos on not giving up.
Okay, so you mean that the tardis blue box, the screwdriver, the galifrey toy, the blue journal, the ship skins and character skins, the daleks, dalek ships, etc, were not created for the event but already in-game beforehand ?? What a surprise !
Those were created for event, but concept was used from before. Events looked very similar before.
