Is that not quite literally what I was putting across?
Somehow, when Armstrong from the CBC does a followup, or rather his producer, we will never ever hear about Eve again on the CBC.
Once again, CCP demonstrates its overall incompetence.
And I am not talking about allowing 6000 players, and likely 40,000 unique objects to be tracked, into one system. No, that is quite a feat of engineering. Even if most crapped out, and in-game time ran at 2% real time.
I am saying that the fact that CCP has created a game mechanics that incites/ encourages this kind of overload is just plain stupid. But hey, have to keep those RMT cartels happyâŚ
Can you imagine how many potential Eve players just watched a Twitch feed in horror for 20 or 30 minutes, and thought âI will never subscribe to a game with such lag.â
Gentle reminder that people have been complaining about lag from the days of 100 people blackscreening a node up until now. The problem here isnât CCP failing, itâs that players will increase the amount of players they bring until lag makes bringing more people unworkable. Or, in itâs more elegant version;
âPlayers expand to fill the lagâ
CCP are the only one in a spot where they can make the meta change. We arenât cramming all grunts we can into a single grid for â â â â and giggles. We do it because itâs the winning strat and we want to win.
We tried the whole âspreading out to ease the node pressureâ meme in M-O (during WWB) and the result was the same, just spread around more systems. Players will force their way into a system - even if theyâre not affiliated - until the lag becomes unbearable.
The lag isnât exactly the issue. In fact, tidi is the only reason battles like today are possible. The issue is how certain things are implemented. For example:
If people were DCed in system, they were unable to log back into Eve at all. Some of our pilots were out for several hours trying to get back in.
Or That a strategic objective that must be obtained within say 15 minutes (Sorry I forget how long it takes), when guns that normally fire every five seconds took minutes to fire instead.
this is getting better and better.
All this fuzz about making nullsec better because itâs the heart of EvE gameplay, reddit âbuzzâ about capitals fights (because tidi is so fun), whole âBuild your own Empireâ and itâs not working. Itâs players fault (obviously) because they exploit something that cannot be overcome because itâs all about tech issue. Nullsec is eating itâs own tail, thanks for opening my eyes Jin.
Last night just proved that this game needs overhaul of game mechanics and upgrade of servers. Now everybody can just spam space and save structures by tidi.
In the end everyone will have keepstars and nothing will move forward.
Here is your issue, itâs not that long ago that they did a massive upgrade on hardware. They released brain in the box, they rewrote dogma. But as @Jin_taan points out in Eve if you build it they will come.
Now you canât have team A decide we will only bring 200 people so we donât slow the server down, because team B will just go âLetâs bring 400 people so we cannot lose.â
The issue at this point is not about making more room, you could allow all the people in Eve to attend a battle and the same issues will occur. The servers would still kick people, they still wouldnât be able to log in, brain in the box might have a stroke causing skills to be non-existent and the required damage cap on a Keep Star might will not change but the effective DPS would need to increase by x %.
The best thing CCP could do is adjust the way these odd things happen. If you try to log in to an overflowing system log them into a system next door.
During time dilation, decrease the required damage to pause a repair under heavy tidi so that fleets can reload weapons, launch new fighters and so on without a target repairing right to 100% health.
Tidi isnât the issue at all.
Make no mistake, there was probably another one to two thousand people who could have joined that fight today if needed. They didnât as the major groups new it would cause issues, and that it would crash the server.
The thinking Lets just make it more powerful, they canât possibly bring more people is the stuck inside the box thinking that will cause this sort of issue to occur in the next major keepstar fight where there are two very large fleets against each other.
And yet, CCP forced this kind of garbage gameplay onto us. Full well knowing that the servers cannot handle the load and processing, CCP forced this garbage gameplay that necessitates these incredibly large numbers of players to destroy or preserve something onto us.
It. Is. Their. Fault.
TEST wasnât even there. That would have been an added 1500 pilots. Also, in 2-3 years, the Chinese will be able to bring 2500 pilots, easily, just by themselves.
Not sure this bodes well for the future of citadel warfare.
âNot about lagâ then lists two reasons to do with lag.
At the end of the day unless they overhaul a lot of the code things wonât improve quickly, eve has broken records by having over 6000 players in one place at one time, no other game has got anywhere near this.
Not sure why people believe 6000 players in one system would equal smooth sailing in any circumstances, even more so on a game code that struggled with 400 players years back.
It might be news for you but people already solved enigma of multitasking. Nothing magical is needed. Just some points of synchronisation.
Talking about topic: what i do not understand is how people still get disconnected, modules get stuck or stuff like that when TiDi was initially designed to prevent such stuff. Because it looks like all purpose of TiDi was lost somewhere.
Why do you even go there? There is a lot of empty space around.
@gnshadowninja my apologies I was up at 4am to prep for the fight and I am not wording things well - a shock given that I am terrible at wording things in the begging
The issue isnât tidi itself, that allows big battles. The issue is that only certain things in a system are tied to it. Everything should be.
@March_rabbit the server just cannot handle the traffic. Even with tidi at 10% the simplest tasks become problematic. For example, one of our FCs DCed at one point. My fleet window showed his DCed pilot and another pilot as being the fleet boss for about 20 seconds. I experienced something new today where my UI got out of sync with fleet members and the fleet UI would completely go away for 5-20 seconds at a time update and come back for all of a second. This lasted for about 10-15 minutes before I lost my entire UI. Two minutes after that I crashed and couldnât login for probably an hour +.
While tidi helps things still go sideways when you have 6,000 people in a system.
@Nana_Skalski explosions are fun. This is a PVP game after all.
Sorry but why they allow all 5000+ bodies enter the system while they know much better than all of us whatâs that mean for real time gameplay.
I mean just another nonsense hey guys we made huge efforts to bring you all in but hey sorry thatâs it you may start log off or we gonna do that for you.
For real fukc these fighters and missiles and drones. If those are pressing servers and nodes to overloaded mode fukc those lil things. Damn CCP make your brains work finally and implement something realistic about Structures.
If CCP hardcaps the amount of players that can be in a system at once, players will take advantage of that cap to keep the other side from entering the system.
You re missing something huge here, this game is so old that modern technologies canât handle its pikes. Or CCP devs donât know how to make things work all together. What if we got 10000 on field? I bet you got dc immediately.
Lets just hope Eve will still be around when quantic computing hits the market âŚ
