To reduce the occasion of overloading server, CCP could make the idea of distributed battlefields more appealing to players. They should build a realtime war information system that gives players the big picture of the whole war, not just the system they are fighting in. Communication through chat channel is too primitive and lack of details. Players should be able to view the progression of invasion or defense in other systems that is related to the battle they are fighting in. This war information system will give players a sense of participation in an epic great war. The battle scence and overview of the fighting information interface in the annual Alliance Tournament might be a good starting point. Game designers can take advantages of this war information system to create a more interactive and interesting gameplays for players across multiple systems. For example, an inspiration from the star war movie, the shield of a Citadel is powered by nuclear fusion power plants in multiple nearby systems and shield energy is transmitted to the Citadel by a quantum transmitter through higher dimension. I mean there is no power line to cut. Attacking players can weaken the shield of the Citadel by attacking power plants in nearby systems. At the same time, all players are able to know what exactly is happening in other systems through the war information system. With the war information system, the possibilities of interesting interactive gameplays across multiple systems are only limited by imagination of players and designers.
The way the game is organized makes it necessary to bring larger and larger fleets to your objective. This is a fault on CCPâs side. The way Citadels work causes these â â â â â â up battles which or no fun for anybody ever. CCP needs to re-evaulate the way battles and war fucntion in the game and change it if it is ever to have interesting wars and battles again.
This wonât work: there is pretty hard limit for single thread performance. And CCP is unable to make their code multithreaded for more than 10 years. This is very unlikely that they will do it in observable future.
Probably because it would need a total re-write.
Then tactics would change to compensate: instead of N+1ing into tidi, players would play around the max number of toons allowed in a system, probably with cloaky camping as defenders. If they can throw thousands of players at a fight, they can probably get $limit people to make safes, cloak, and log off.
Why does CCP keep allowing this kind of thing. In spite of obvious limitations?
Because itâs good PR, we keep showing up for these fights anyway and we keep paying them. Thatâs all there is to it. If you donât like it, quit the game. Money talks louder than forum posts.
(And I am not personally saying to quit. I think this is kind of silly to complain about, but if you do choose to complain, do it properly)
Ohohohoho another âmarketing stuntâ went down the drain. When will CCP learn that their marketing team is simply outdated and between us the mere mortals, full of crap. Hire new blood, who can think out of the box, not copy-paste monkeys.
Sure it will need a total rewrite.
Thatâs why they didnât do it for all these years and will never do.
Not exactly true btw: people were getting disconnected and unable to login. It does not really matter if server stays âonâ or âoffâ when you personally unable to play.
Last nights event is similar to this commercial : https://youtu.be/u8aOGP_ONnI LOL
CCP TO THE AIRPORT :))))))))))))))))))
Ahhh, time dilation and the old getting stuck, if itâs any consolation Iâve noticed that I get hiccups of this while on missions, so Iâve started using t-1 drones again in case I get dropped.
Sometimes my guns get stuck and wonât fire or keep firing long after everything done until I go into warp.
No matter what the reasons are for what happened yesterday: This has been one of the worst showings in recent online gaming history. Massive hype - massive fail. There is not a single thing you should be proud of.
And this is how it gets reported on popular media sites. Good for the game? I donât think so.
âUpdate: The fight has ended in a disappointing win for the defenders of the Keepstar Citadel. With massive server lag preventing combatants from participating to their full potential, The Imperium refused to deploy their supercapital fleet of Titans and eventually called off the assault. EVEâs $1 million USD battle has been a bust despite a record-breaking number of participants.â
That Drones and Fighters are viable in those big fights is a design flaw anyway. I could orbit and shot the Keepstar slow but steady for the first hour and half of the fight in a sniper ship. Had Drones and Fighters disabled. Drones and Fighters should be good for PVE and small scale and those mega battles should be more or less DPS races by gun-ships of any size. (Because missiles are a pain too.)
After goons got done in 6 hours of tidi they just wanted to go home and krab, but ISBAD was there! 8b of salty goon tears down.
Happened to me few times after latest patch. Warp disruptor just never stopped until i tried to start it on another target.
Were you in the system during the battle?
Did they market it all that much? Because, best I can recall, it was an FCâs (progodlegend) thread on r/gaming that got everyoneâs attention.
