But also you can’t really factor in how people either survive EVE by 1) being mentally stubborn or inflexible to a fault. 2) fanatics, yes you have those types…even if they are having a bad time…they have been dunked in the koolaid. 3) Sunken Cost Fallacy. Some people swiped a bit too much or paid too much into the game…and now they are basically. WELP I spent an amount equivalent to a mortgage I better get my value out it.
The number of actual newbros who get into the game and try it out freely…is kind of a very low percentage. And many just get swamped by the threshhold, and if they stick around or play more than the introductory phase of the game does show if they are going to keep at it. Or not.
EVE had existed for 18 years before I tried it out. It had barely registered on my radar. I’d always preferred single player RPGs…Skyrim, Fallout, etc. I’m not even sure how I ended up joining…might have been an advert, or just found it on Steam. I don’t think anyone is born an EVE player…they become EVE players. Which takes time…and the time factor is probably the determining factor in who stays.
I never saw any advert…or anything. A gaming friend talked me into trying it…and i was instantly hooked. I really cant explain it. I put all the other games i was playing down and stayed in eve for a very long extended time. I dont play as much, but ill always be hooked to this game…all the way to the end.
The irony for me, is EVE Online got introduced to me in like 2008/2009 at a Barnes and Noble. The old EVE Online magazine…the interview with Baltech and the stories pertaining to his ships. Was an interesting read…ironically nothing in that magazine remains. But the stories left an imprint…and well 2019-2020 happened and well I gave it a shot.
Although on the flipside…the personal introduction to EVE is 50/50…some people hear the worst parts of EVE through the vine…and immediately shutdown any attempt. Others roll in. [Survival Rates vary.]
This is were the difficult work of building community comes in. Honestly, Fernis can only do so much beyond build a great game. We have to create the community that retains them. We have to show players the reasons to change their paradigm. If you are here long enough you end up understanding that you need other pilots. Multiboxing isn’t the same as multiple friends. There is a million ways to do this…every last one of them is work. Sometimes its even fun.
You should just accept you are nobody, and your “role” is just a lie you push here and in game due to your inability to just admit you do what you do for sick kicks .
Barring the delusions in your head what was the last thing you actually built and contributed ?
You DO realise EVE is just a game ?? It’s not Teletubbies In Space…its supposed to be a ‘dog eat dog’ dystopia. Why do people keep on and on and on trying to bring their real world ‘morality’ into it ?
Hey…I’ve charged up a French beach and shot 400 Germans. The French police have yet to arrest me…as I was playing Medal Of Honour.
If a person chooses to be a wildebeest, they should not be surprised if a lion sees their backside as dinner. Everyone has exactly the same freedom to choose, when they join EVE.
LOL. good post brother. Miners should accept their role as fodder. True. Flying a Fenrir is different than flying a Proteus. One is hunter, the other is hunted. I fly both. Just because you are a whale or a guppy doesnt mean you are entitled to a swim without sharks.
