That is very good advice, Dyver, for the future.
But I am still SOL in the present.

Well, at this point, as soon as I try to even start up either launcher, my machine starts to have problems, locking up and spawning more Windows Consent Admin popups. I’ve gone through 3 different anti-malware scans, just in case, all of them up-to-date, and none of them turned up anything. I’m in the middle of removing all of the EVE installations, and then I’m going to basically be purging and retaining only ‘known good’ files, which I expect means losing a few terabytes of data.
After all that, and once I know the machine’s working properly again… we’ll see if I feel like risking The Revenge of Boot.ini again. There’s a large part of me that feels like this is just a sign that it’s time to be done with this game.
@Arrendis can you file a bug report from within the new launcher? If that fails let me know so I can run you through the manual steps.
I did.
Oh also, when I attempt to launch the game via the new launcher…
It claims I already have a game instance running, even though that is incorrect.
My heart goes out to the people with real problems, like full reinstalls or losing settings. That should not be happening, clearly.
My experience was pretty flawless. No profile loss (because I only have 1?), no reinstall (but I downloaded 12GB for some reason?), and I could launch the game immediately. Even while it was downloading something.
General Feedback
I happen to be an optimal case where everything just worked. No reinstall, no changed settings, basically just a brand new launcher.
I appreciate the direct character selection and how luanch groups are handled and labelled in the new launcher compared to the old launcher. “Launch group” is unusual terminology that was not documented and not really new user friendly. I had to resort to external sources of information to understand that it was to support multiboxing.
Confusing Parts
My game client did not seem to reinstall nor reset anything, but it did download 12GBs on first run. Was it a patch for the game or the launcher? The launcher doesn’t clearly explain. I seemed to be allowed to launch the game immediately during the download, but didn’t want to break anything so I closed the game and waited.
Where the launcher went and how to run it again after closing it was a point of friction, too. I expected a Start Menu shortcut but I got an a desktop shortcut instead that I didn’t ask for. I had to re-run the installer to launch it, and then Ctrl-Alt-Del to find the process.
It installs in a very counterintuitive way in Windows. Full apps do not belong in AppData profiles.
My Biggest Feedback
I’d advise updating the OP encouraging people to beta test this (or should we say Early Access for the kids) what a beta test actual entails: unlikely but potentially major problems like Example A, Example B, Example Z. and how to back stuff up before running it.
I had a 3.1g download that was it. Nothing in the game altered in the slightest for me so I have no idea why others are having all these issues, unless they have the game integrated with some third party apps somehow?
There’s just too much disparity amongst players for any other logical answer as it should not in any way affect numerous players differently.
Did you installed it on the default location that it came with ? That would have been the shared cache Eve folder. Or did you changed to game folder ?
Also , I think that by now there are some chances for them to have fixed the issue ?!
I just let it do it’s own thing this morning just after this thread went live.
Most of us changed the destination folder from default one to game folder as we thought it could redownload the entire game in the shared cache default folder that it had selected as its own.
There’s the posibility this woundn’t have been the case and the installer would have figured out from the cache folder that there’s no need to reinstall the whole game again, or today they have fixed the issue as there was an update for the launcher after DT.
In many alliances security department asking for “login screen screenshot”. Is it any way to get old login screen? Because in case share characters from launcher also account name will be shared. Not good for security reasons.
From launcher : Settings > Game Client > Always go to character selection.
Nope, no third-party apps interfaced w/my game at all.
It should be illegal to use anything other than ISO format YYYY-MM-DD. There is constant confusion when people insist on YY-MM-DD/DD-MM-YY/MM-DD-YY mess.
I’m mildly dyslexic, so I follow a strict ymdyydmy format. Today’s date, for example, is 20102443.
Don’t ask for this as you will get something like this button:
Is it just me or do you all have stomach pains as well when thinking about of how much it will break for you?
The main problem is that it is installed into %LocalAppData%, and you have to install launcher for each local user who wants to run the game. 300Mb per install.
Sorry to break it into you like that, but disk space on profiles partition is not infinite. That is why I have a dedicated partition for all things gaming.
How the hell did they manage to get it up to 300MB? Even electron based atrocities are not that bloated.
OK, I tried it…
I can fry eggs on my laptop now without having to start up any eve client, just by having the new launcher open. Not mentioning the noise from the fan on high speed…
I better not launch a client now as it would certainly fry my CPU
ISO is %Y-%m-%d.
Just sayin’.
