I guess I’ll know when I know … when the launcher surprises me and starts downloading 60GB of stuff
then I’ll know when the launcher stops being optional
Look how smart these monkeys are
I’m sure they know something.

I’d settle for them testing releases against WINE. EVE already works in wine, but it would be nice if it didn’t just randomly break occasionally.
My preferred way, from my time in u.s. army
16 Apr 23
“There are two ways to do things: The right way, and the Army Way. You will do things the Army Way.”
St.George’s Day 2016, that’s a few years back.
(Sorry, it was irresistible and I’m weak…)
But I know what you meant - though 16 April 2023 is clearer - and given I was part of sorting out the whole millennium issue with dates it’s s bit of a hobby horse.
(the Y2K bug was real - and a lot of hard background work and testing stopped it)
In the case of things such as the Eve Launcher this shouldn’t be a debate - they should just follow the format the OS is set to.
There’s a thread on the EVE discord’s #launcher-beta channel where @Katrina_Bekers has shared their progress in getting the launcher to run under Wine. There have been some issues due to wine running apps with full admin access, and the new launcher wanting to be installed as a user, but last I saw they found a workaround for that.
Mil pardon, I’ve missed that part of your post.
Changes for v0.2.3
Bugfixes:
At the moment, Linux is an unsupported platform, as we know.
But we have the chance to prevent/mitigate breakage by assisting during the beta. This is the best time to do what Linux users are known for: self-support.
On the official Discord server, there’s a sub-thread in the beta launcher channel where we can discuss/test it.
I’ve been able to run it (with some caveats) both under WINE and under Steam/Proton.
All contributors welcome.
Who knows, maybe one day we will see a Vulkan client instead of the DirectX one…
I settle for us testing releases against WINE and Proton. That’s what we’re doing. And if you ask me, a great thing compared to the random, out-of-the-blue problems we had in the past (T3C textures anyone?).
Among rank-and-file devs, while fully knowing Linux is officially unsupported, there’s a lot of goodwill toward the platform. Let’s not waste this goodwill, and do our part.
I really hope so
If you’re on Windows, make a regular backup of %localappdata%\CCP\EVE to preserve your client and account settings.
So far:
Pros:
Looking much better than the old launcher <3.
I like that additional information about account an chars is accessible also.
Launching the character directly is going to help.
Cons:
Resize is a must!
Deploying is a bit tricky (it was not working until I did not close the eve online client)
A way to see when Omega is expiring.
ISK wallet should be nice also.
In my case default profile was added, launcher did not manage to import existing profiles.
Skill in training and the remaining time might be a nice addition also.
Sadly without profiles loaded I did not test anything more.
Instead of dubious “Select your character (optional)” selector it needs an explicit “Character selection screen” dropbox entry. Simple rule is that the interface must be 1. obvious and 2. the most straightforward possible.
Instead of disconnected “play now” button somewhere out there it needs a usual ▶
button right next to the account status (α
/Ω
) logo (or just double-click to play, as has been suggested earlier).
It would be a nice qol with an option that makes the launcher close when the game starts. I don’t want/need the extra window when I play and alt-tab to browser etc…
is there a way to remove inactive accounts from the launcher? I’m primarily a single account player and I would like to remove the inactive account from the launcher
First what I want to say is that “create launch groups” is not an answer for everything. Launcher UI is centered around accounts and characters, not groups.
so far - this is it. rest looks promissing.
for feature requests
I have encountered the following issues with new launcher:
I have never had the above issues before installing the new launcher, changing back to the old launcher did not fix any of the above issues, will have to reinstall EVE to fix these issues.
I have filed bug reports for all of the above
-freezes can be anything from a second to 10 seconds
This new launcher is really awesome for players with multiple accounts. Finally we can log in a set of characters with one click. Well done.
Aloha CCp,
So far I truly appreciate the new Launcher ESPECIALLY since it has removed the wind up of my fans without any overheating.
I know this has been an issue for some, I tried everything to fix that, nothing prevailed.
Now my PC is nice and quiet.
