I’ve seen some amazing fleet videos and am always impressed by the commanders who can speak faster than a horse racing commentator…when calling for the fleet to switch attack between ships. But all of that is a far cry from anything I’ve been involved in or even seen…and mainly seems to happen in wormholes or nullsec. I’m happy to be available to defend corp HQ in highsec…but its not like anything other than a few Guristas Kestrels ever attack.
So I am bored.
It could very well be true. I do feel like an “oldberg” and I do have less tolerance for losing things I paid for in a game but I excuse myself because
- I see no reason why I should kick myself in the butt and
- I’ve lost enough things in my life to not be an idiot and pay for things in a game I’ll lose regardless.
In that case I might as well flush my money down the toilet.
How ? Where ? What do you define as ‘PvP viable’ ? I have loads of ships than can deliver high DPS…Gnosis, Moa, Caracal, Thrasher, Catalyst, etc, all waiting for someone to blast into the hereafter.
Hop in a cheap T1 frigate and go to lowsec, or hop into a cheap T1 cruiser and go to nullsec. Go on an adventure and write off the ship as lost. Repeat as often as necessary.
Greta Thunberg? GenZ
But seriously. I don’t like to judge people by their age, that’s discrimination. I already don’t like to judge anyone period.
Every generation has its geniuses and its idiots. We can’t judge a whole generation and lump everyone together, that’s insane.
in eve there is a tool for every job
depending of the type of pvp you are doing you will use one kind of ship
i think @Destiny_Corrupted is talking about war deck piracy
hacs , battlecruisers
can be wrong
I haven’t seen, much less participated in, any of those spacefights they show in the ads, in 5 years, and I’ve been to all sec space. Closest to that I saw was a large group of gankers having at a lone hauler. I jumped just in time not become a target myself.
That was kind of exciting, but I haven’t seen anything besides that.
EVE’s space is either a bunch of gankers springing on some unfortunate soul or empty space for many jumps.
If EVE’s PvP translates only to ganking then it’s even more boring than I thought.
BIIIIG fights are boooooorinng
there is time dilatation you take 30 minutes to do 2 shots lol
there is an amarr super carrier called aeon , people use to leave the pc , take a drink , come back , no chance to be dead
I’ll keep that in mind for this years gift giving thread.
Mr Epeen
Talking about thousands of players fighting in space, thpse are rare battles and I can understand why.
Maybe talking about a few hundreds if that.
No…losing ISK is really not in itself the issue. I’ve wasted and effectively ‘lost’ ISK for example in buying and selling stuff…where in the end I just cut my losses. The difference being that nobody knows about that. Nobody can bring up a web page and say 'haha…you LOST 100m ISK from buying the wrong stuff to sell '. On the other hand…every puny little ship loss of any value gets recorded, and despite everyone saying zkills does not matter, people quoting it every 5 minutes puts the lie to that. And I think ( as Mina says ) that older people are just less inclined to add to that for what seems like no real reason.
Exactly. No need to have thousands of pilots to get thrilled. I haven’t seen even a few dozens fighting in space.
It seems that ganking is the only form of PvP in EVE.
What’s wrong with taking a drink? It’s a game on the screen, not Air Traffic Control.
to me zkill is all that matters
its the meta game of some players
small fights in low sec take less than a minute
if you blink you are dead
you can look at my killboard i killed 3 guys in the same minute lots of times
It’s really the ONLY thing people know about you or I. Nobody knows how much ISK I have. Nobody knows how many or what sort of ships I have. I think even my SP is hidden. I could pass someone at a gate and they could be a trillionaire or an Eve pauper. They might be a miner, or a ganker, or someone who just fought some major battle. They may be in a shuttle now…but be in a Titan in 5 minutes time. Almost nothing is known about other players apart from their corp…and their zkills history. It’s about the only thing anyone has any bragging rights on…and if a PvP game is not ultimately about bragging rights then what is it about.
Exactly. That’s not worth 20 bucks a month to me.
Why? How does it matter? Your survivors aren’t even able to inherit your in-game stuff if something suddenly happened to you.
If you’re not treating your wealth as a tool to achieve personal in-game milestones with the ultimate goal of enjoying your time playing, and are hoarding just for the sake of having more, you’re playing the game wrong. And this isn’t the same “wrong” as the one where people get angry and say stuff like “this is a sandbox so don’t tell me how to play.” You’re actually missing the point of this form of entertainment.
No one’s going to be impressed that your “Caracal can deliver high DPS.”
Here’s a short list of things you need:
- At least one maxed-out (i.e. T2 weapons and tank mods) BC+BS race capable of armor-cap-chain gang warfare. For example, training into Trig stuff to be able to fly the Leshak would accomplish this. But there are other choices, like Gallente, Minmatar, and mixed pirate ships. Something like a Praxis with torpedoes could work too.
- 720mm/1400mm T2 artillery with Minmatar BC/BS at 5, or at least being trained to 5 in short order.
- Assault frigates and HACs for at least one race that is able to engage in solo combat (which means you need to be able to have a web/scram combo), with applicable T2 weapons.
- Being able to do T2 logistics isn’t necessary per se, but would make you much more desirable for recruitment.
Additional stuff like T3 cruisers, command ships, stealth bombers, is all useful, but not necessarily mandatory.
You will need a second account to both act as a scout, and to be able to transport stuff for your main.
there are different styles depending of what you do
@Destiny_Corrupted makes money with pvp, she almost never dies , she fight with intel , to win
i fight for the pleasure of fighting , im usually in a terrible ship , fitted to be most versatile possible ,because i never know who im going to fight , i have no intel, i die a lot , i try to be isk positive and care for solo kills , but rarely i get isk , a green 10 million drop is like a birthday present to me
other day i got 2 green heat sinks , probably best loot i got in the last 2 years , uber rare
That’s even worse. So I paid for stuff that’s not even mine, lol.
I’m not hoarding anything. I’m not asset-rich in the game. Maybe less than 2 billion.
My point is: if I’m going to lose time and/or money for stuff that’ll only use not even a minute to try to defend myself:
… and then lose it for quasi sure, then I don’t see the point of getting those items in the first place and hence I don’t see the point of even paying for anything.
It feels like paying for the privilege of losing it. If I want that I can go ask for a loan, buy a bunch of sh- and not repay the loan so they can come and take everything by Law. I don’t see the point of it.
