There are some good people around here

What? No one gives a ■■■■ about being called a villain. That’s not even the topic of this thread.

Most posts I’ve read here haven’t worried about that at all. They’re just trying to reason with your dumb ass and stupidity.

It’s a futile objective because like many dumb asses, you ignore posts you can’t argue against and just perpetuate your trolling by addressing posts you think you can respond to, and end up just magnifying the stupidity even more.

Just makes us all stupid in the end, for even responding.

In the advertisement CCP made with the “Be the villain.” ending, do you think they meant space villain? Did you happen to notice that you can’t be actual, in-game villains in the traditional sense? You can’t be Sansha or Gurista or Angel, Serpentis, etc.

Were they referencing space villainy or was it a reference to the innate duality present in the human animal, whereby he or she has the capacity to be kind OR cruel, constructive OR destructive, noble OR vile, etc.?

You entered the game and chose to use it as a vector to express your will to dominate. Why is that not exactly what it seems? Are you that disturbed by it?

I don’t ignore any posts. Some of them just don’t warrant a response. Some are incoherent. Some are redundant. Some I would consider very off-topic or leading that way. Some are ad hominem, etc. Benjamin Franklin’s quote pops up in my bead sometimes to remind me to shut up: “Many a long dispute among divines may be thus abridged: It is so; It is not so. It is so; it is not so.”

Lock this garbage.

I agree, a thread started with good intentions was ruined by a troll.

Dunno.
So far OP has earned isk off this thread.
There might be more forthcoming as people seek to support OP against said trolls.

No they’re advertising a game so they’re talking about space villainy quite obviously. To incite your customers to break the law isn’t what makes them money.

It’s not at all obvious except to those who already have their mind made up. That you believe in one possibility over another and refuse to consider alternatives is a choice. Even the authors of that video might have trouble remembering what they meant, so far down the line, letalone be able reconcile that with what they actually said and what others heard. All you can know is what they said and what you heard. But those are probably not the same thing.

You have the ability to choose what you are in the game, moreso than virtually any other game that I can think of. But that’s not an excuse. You are not exempted from being that thing you are choosing to be. How would your actions be meaningful if that were so?

That doesn’t mean when you kill someone in the game, you’re a murderer in real life. That’s a straw man argument. Literally no one has made that argument, but some of you think so because that’s what YOU HEAR.

Being disrespectful is not against the law. Being abusive is quite a murky subject that the law hasn’t quite figured out, yet. Being deceptive is . . . Catfish. Treachery is not the name of any crime I know of. But these (and there are others) are the embodiment of wrongfulness.

“You should not do magic you do not understand.”

It’s not a choice, since one side is factually accurate and one is not. EvE is a game and so when the creators advertise you can be “something” they mean in game. You’re literally thicker than two short planks to think otherwise. As if the creators of call of duty mean real life when they suggest you can buy call of duty and be a soldier. Come on

Yes i agree, thankyou for specifying “in the game” and not in real life, because thinking it meant real life would be incredibly stupid.

They aren’t. Your actions aren’t meaningful because you are playing a video game which is unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

We know. You’re the one who said that.

Again we know, but you keep saying it.

Agreed. But being disrespectful doesn’t make you a villain either so…

Then you don’t know what you’re on about : Treachery (law) - Wikipedia

You should not get butt-hurt over things you do not understand.

Serious question: Do you enjoy this?

Serious Answer : It helps me get through particularly monotonous times at work. I have always enjoyed “debate” and although I realize that isn’t strictly what’s going on here I’m happy to communicate with people I find interesting for one reason or another.

Lots of good people to fleet with and fight against in Eve. There’s all sorts of fun to be had in corps and public fleets with lots of helpful, funny, and nice people.

Exploding your ship is part of the game. Often fun game content is gained by destroying other people’s stuff. Sometimes it’s you having a blast making things go bang and other times you get hammered and wake up in the station.

For whatever reason the forums are filled with a bunch of wise guys looking to make some smart arse comment or argue with a rock.

Most of the game is not like them. Eve is a lot of fun and it’s not dying.

So, taken to a logical end, everyone who plays within the rules of any video game and “interferes”… ok,… shoots another in game player is a bad person. I have great difficulty staying conscious and blurring reality that far.

I need a drink.

not all pilots are going to give you isk afterwards, most will say get fooked lol

It’s not about the isk
It’s about what you can teach the guy you just killed
IF they want to learn

Around 2008 or 2009somebody quoted an
old 2004 or so interview with a dev. The dev said EVE is “Everyone vs. Everyone.” Not actual proof, more hearsay, but the quote looked authentic.

Is it worth my while to read the rest of this thread?

At some point, in the remaining 53 posts as yet unread,

Do you make a point? At all?

Ps. To answer you directly:

We know by their actions, including their speech acts
This is how we KNOW you are not good, indeed perhaps a 'bad apple’
