The window lists skins when NONE are available on the market…anywhere. What kind of a showcase is that for Eve skins ? Buying a skin should not be something that costs 100 times the ship itself, or where one or two of the skins listed are available 71 jumps away. It should be a regular, bog standard, thing that is easy and readily available. It is a complete farce to have 17 skins listed and not be able to find a single one of them anywhere in Eve.
But I can see why people holding onto those 2bn Retribution skins don’t want this changed !
Yeah, I can’t believe the dystopian-spaceship-capitalism simulator didn’t implement skins exactly the same way as Warframe. Real mind melter, that one.
Except that in capitalism I’d be able to pop down to Halfords and buy a can of red spray paint for £10 and not find the equivalent of some cabal of people charging £10,000 for enough red spray paint to paint a beat up old Ford Fiesta.
no ? Exclusivity comes at a price.
And reciprocally, rarity is what makes the price, so the will to farm it.
If anything, I think the acquisition method of the skin should be obvious and enforced on a long-term. “limited time” skins should not be produced outside of the original limited time.
Yes they do. It’s one of the many techniques MMOs use to keep people engaged. You want a good skin, you keep showing up.
The real problem is skins like in the Crimson log in rewards. You can’t sell them. Which produces the opposite of engagement. No one is going to buy a sub for character bound skins.
Some skins are “rare” because they are exclusive. Some skins are “generic” because everyone has them.
Like valve has had really great success in having the community make skins for them to add into the various games.
Free labor------Valve gets free skins because of the community-------more money because people buy these community skins------ people are happy their skins are in a game they love.
It’s a strange hill to die on because it makes sense to have community made skins. (Within a specific theme set by CCP) That is my point.
Right that is what valve also does. Some skins are rare some are everywhere.
There is a balance that can be struck, and I am sad there are no community made skins. Things can be so much better than what we have now, and I think that is what OP really meant all along.
It comes at the price of people just saying ‘screw it’ when looking through a list of skins that are ridiculously expensive. It has nothing to do with how ‘poor’ anyone is. I have better things to spend 2bn ISK on than a skin for a Retribution. If I had 100tn ISK I would not buy such a rip off skin. Why would I want to spend 50 times what a ship costs…just to add a skin to it ?
The average person simply wants to buy a nice skin that doesn’t cost the earth. That seems to be asking too much of CCP.
Then no skin is generic since I create a toon, it has no skin. Only the bones.
So your definition makes all skins “rare” and therefore it’s useless.
Yes, As I already said, you being poor does not make the skin unavailable. Just out of your reach.
That’s because you’re poor. If you were rich, you would not care about a 2B skin.
That issue is on you to change it. It’s not a fate. Less crying, more working, as they said. But sure it’s easier to cry.
Source or GTFO.
Also you can’t buy anything with the earth. That seems to be asking too much of you to stop saying nonsense.
The current system provides limited choice of skins, limited availability, and to be frank a lot of the skins are not particularly wonderful anyway. Many are quite frankly boring. I am quite sure I could do better if a skin creator was added to Eve.
