Time To Sort Out Ship Skins

That’s cool but you’re actually just yelling at the nerd at the hobby shop because he doesn’t have a mint alpha black lotus to sell you for $20.

Again, making an analogy is not the same as making a valid argument.

In that case, the skin list is a showcase, not a shop. It’s not even an add. It’s just a list of those that are available in the game, which is not the same thing as to you, right now, using market.

it redirects you to the market on demand, so by definition it does not have the same goal as the market window.

If you want to know which skills you can purchase right now, using market then you use the market window, which allows you to filter like this :

Which then gives you this list :

Nowhere have I argued there should not be rare skins. But that’s a far cry clicking BUY on 20 skins to see what’s in the market, and then checking widely and only finding 2 of them are actually for sale anywhere.

I should not have to put out 18 buy orders just to see whether someone, somewhere, has one of the items not currently for sale. That is not what I call ‘available’.

And seriously…simply wanting my ship to be red rather than some boring bronze colour is now ‘entitled’ ? I can’t think of anything more fundamental to a space game than being able to quickly and easily decide what colour my ship is.

I don’t care what word for it you are now using. It says ‘BUY’…and I expect there to BE something there to buy. What is the point of clicking through BUY on 20 skins only to find not a single one is available. What kind of a stupid system is that ? At the very least it is extremely bad design. This is precisely why I have argued in the OP that players should be able to create their own skins.

What are the chances that the people against making skins for sale via CCP, are the same ones who hoarded them and are selling them on the market, sporadically.

EVE ships are already nice without skin.

So if they just removed the buy button from the skin preview screen, this whole complaint vanishes?

Would still like to know which Retribution skin, btw.

Yeah, I see no other valid explanation than him wanting CCP to remove that button.
Since the “buy” is not even on the skin list that he complains about …

None. Read my previous post, the skin list is not conceived for that. However, the market window is.

In the OP you argue about the ship list, and now you argue about the preview button. I know you will call me pedantic again, but when you don’t even know what to complain about, I don’t think the issue is within the game.

The skin list is not a bad design. It does exactly what it is supposed to do : list the skins.
If you want to buy stuff, then use the market.

Well, just how sensible is it to have a tab called ‘Personalisation’, heck…maybe that is for personalising my ship…great idea…that one goes into and it displays a whole list of 20 skins with BUY next to them…only to find not a single one is available. Yeah…that really makes sense. Well done CCP.

It was merely an example. I don’t want one. I think the highest price I saw was 9bn ISK, I forget what ship. I was merely citing examples of how ship skins can be ridiculously more than the ship itself. Which would be fine for the odd rare skin…but I find it laughable just how many ‘rare’ skins there are out of those listed. All the more reason for users to be able to create their own.

The skin system can be so much better.

Make a screen about that.
I want to see your personalization window with those 20 buy button next to the skins. So far mine has none.

So you complain about something that does not even bother you…

The skin list says BUY. Far too often one finds that there are none to buy ( it actually takes you to the market window to show that…so I don’t know why you keep insisting I should look at the market )

You expect me to create 18 buy orders on the off chance that someone, somewhere MIGHT have one of the skins that I haven’t yet decided precisely which one I want ? Stuff that.

I guess english is a too difficult language for you then.
Listing skins available on the market, which is what you ask, is a function available in the … market window. Claiming that function should be on the skin list window is a nonsense. Because the skin list only lists the skins in the game, not “for sale in my region”.

I’m not saying CCP could not change that. I’m saying, the way it is now makes sense, as opposed to your claim in the OP.

  1. that’s more likely to get you the skin than complaining on the forum
  2. not this way. I already told you how to use it, with screens, but it seems english is a difficult language.

Also, where is that screen that shows the issue you are complaining about ?
Is making a screenshot also too difficult for you ?

It seems from some of the responses here that you hit the nail firmly on the head. Actually I don’t mind some sort of a fee for creating my own skin…CCP could make a lot from that, as long as it was reasonable. The system knows the market value of your ship, so a fee of lets say 10% of the value of the ship would be fine. These would not be tradeable. It would simply be the player deciding ’ I want my ship green with pink spots '. A tradeable version of this could exist…but it would obviously have to be more resticted.

That idea isn’t ever going to work.

All we need is actual ingame skins to actually be for sale.

Nope…no also. You have just become waaay to much of a complete and utter bore for me to even bother reading your posts. I am simply stating my opinion here. I do not care whether you like my opinion or not, or whether you agree with it.

Here’s the thing about trying to sell “high value” skins in the market:

You have to list it and pay the broker fee. The market for some skins is very small, so chances are fairly high the listing will expire and you’re out the broker fee. Do this a few times, or with multiple skins, and you could be out of pocket a billion ISK or more very quickly.

According to evepraisal, my skins container in Jita is worth over 20b. When I check the market for the more valuable ones, the last one sold was a year ago.

If there’s a specific skin you want, make a post in the market forum. Join the EVE Black Market discord server and ask there. Chances are someone will have it and be prepared to sell it directly without having to play market happy funtimes with an item that may not sell for years.

There’s a reason many of the rarer and more valuable skins aren’t on the market: they just don’t sell all that often.

You mean for the ‘BUY’ icon to actually let you ‘BUY’ the skin ? My God…what an amazing and novel idea ! Of course, that might ruin the entire Eve Pension Fund savings of those who are relying on 9bn ISK Gnosis skins for their retirement. My heart bleeds for them…not.

I have a feeling people don’t want CCP to change their skin structure to be like nearly all mainstream games because they have a ton of ISK behind the rarity of them.

Golly I wish the community made skins.

Apparently, some in this thread really dislike/ignore the concept. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It has to be a political/economic reason to fight against this. For @Altara_Zemara to be drug across the dirt for putting up a valid point that CCP’s skin structure is a bit strange and should be fixed is sad.

Every skin in the game comes from CCP. Most of them from the NES. As in “for sale by CCP”.

So these “hoarders” did, in fact, purchase them from CCP. They didn’t magic them into existence.

Just sayin’.
