Today I decided not to play

That seems unnecessary

Thank you for posting this. I was thinking of coming back to EVE. Now with this implant drop. Nowhere is relatively safe. I lost a lot of interest in EVE way back with scarcity fiasco. Kicking Kernite and Omber out of High Security. Destroyed my enjoyment. I took a 10-month break. Let CCP enjoy some cash scarcity. Came back anyways. Did the ghetto mining in Low. Really impossible unless you have a mega alliance with you. Interestingly mega alliances with their CSM representees I am sure jumped up and down with glee for these changes. (Get more pilots in NULL!!!) In NULL you have BOSSES. Tried it. I felt like I was at work. What you doing LG??? No no!!! Mine here. Sell your ore to Pilot smuckmaster. CTA!!! No no fly this ship!! Ah screw that. I have enough bosses at work! I be darned if I am going to pay money to be bossed around in a game. Back in the day. I could mitigate my risk by staying out of the ghetto. Now CCP has decided to bring the ghetto to me. But I can here the response now. BUT BUT you can buy PLEX to replace your stuff. Nope!

There are tools that help to know when the last person was ganked. Even without a second character to help, but most people are to lazy to bother. Or think somehow they are special. People keep thinking that somehow in a game that means PVP that it does not either A) apply to them or B) Of course I am not always in danger. SMH

I appreciate the response, but I think it’s a bit wide of the mark, as is…

Neither of these posts is really relevant to what I am saying and seem to misunderstand my general point. I know there are ways around everything to avoid being ganked. I am talking about something bigger than just ‘people complain when they get ganked and it’s their fault’.

The core, central tenet of what I am saying, is that EVE should, by all reasonable expectations, have a player-led bounty hunting profession that thrives, yet it doesn’t, and that is quite clearly the single most decisive reason we continually debate the nature of ganking - because players do not feel there is a counter playstyle that is worthwhile.

We know this is the case for one incredibly obvious reason: Organised anti-ganking is one of the only obvious roles that exists in almost all space games, lore, and media, that doesn’t exist in this game to any meaningful degree,

This is a sandbox where almost every other profession, even those with extremely (imo) tedious gameplay that is time consuming, has developed a core group who do it. Essentially there is a game here populated almost exclusively with the ‘robbers’ and their victims, and that’s incredibly odd.

The two most obvious reasons that it doesn’t exist, are a) lack of realistic rewards for hunters, and b) gameplay oversights/design that mean there is almost zero realistic ability for even the most dedicated players to chase after criminals and act as a player-led police force (the ‘cops’).

And as I mentioned, to even do that would often be a criminal act in the game, so you could argue that far from taking no choice here, CCP has made a choice that hinders it. Someone can gank continuously, and still end up the victim when attacked weeks later.

So what I am saying here is that ganking absolutely has a place in EVE. People should be rewarded for playing safe and taking the time to ensure they can travel safely. And they should likely absorb some risk even in hisec.

But if ganking has a place in EVE, then CCP should also ensure that players can choose the opposite path, and do the work CONCORD does not, or cannot do. I say this again, who could possibly be against this? It would patently make ganking more exciting, dynamic, and tense. It would make anti-ganking an active part of the game, and create emergent playstyles that reward those who think and plan, while only hurting the people who cynically exploit the game’s current limitations.

So you want CCP to put them in jail or something? Issue bans? Or just provide a way for someone to blow up their cheap T1 trash ships?

Are you going to try and force them to fly around in expensive ships then? Bounty hunting isn’t going to do anything. Do you think they care about losing a destroyer? If that bothered them, then they wouldn’t have sacrificed their ships to blow up your mining barge or exhumer.

So what then? What exactly do you want? You want CCP to make it cost them 2 destroyers to blow up your way more expensive ship? How’s this bounty hunter thing supposed to work? Do you even know?

They fly cheap ships. They work together to blow up your expensive ship.

Any type of bounty system would be exploited, no matter what form it took…

I could gank as much as I want, log in my alt bounty hunter, kill my ganker alt, and claim the rewards for myself. And that is exactly what would happen…

Hell, one of the most obvious rewards for bounty hunting is a boost in security status, in which case a ganker would just shoot the rest of their fleet after the target goes down to get bounty hunting rewards for being on the CONCORD killmail of their own alts.

You cannot implement proper bounty hunting without either rewarding gankers for killing their own alts, or making the rewards so small that it’s not worth doing (which is where antiganking is at already, all you get out of shooting at a flashy catalyst is whoring on an NPC KM).

Well….Concord were clearly slacking on this day. What’s to complain about ? I got a ‘solo’ kill out of it…

You can attack anyone you like, anywhere you like, as an omega.

Alphas ( such as me ) can only set to “red” in LS, WHs, and null. We are not allowed to set the light on the HUD to red in HS. I don’t think we are allowed to attack people in HS, even when we have their kill rights.

High Security Space

Low Security Space

This is a “safety light” and won’t affect how you are displayed to other players. Also I might be chatting with the wall right now, I see you haven’t been here since November 5th. Hope this helps whoever reads it.

Have fun!

When a killright is activated the capsuleer receives a suspect flag. Anyone can attack suspects even with green safety.

You don’t need flag set to red to attack suspects or criminals. When I suspect hunt at Jita my safety flag is green all the time.

Such a chickadee - woman up !!!

Don’t ask me why, but I set mine to yellow? Lost some hard fights by picking on what I thought was going to be another quick kill. Not all the chances you take in the game pay off. Most do, but not all!

That is because ganking is a privilege for the elite

You’re 100% correct, other than the part about it being a privilege or for the elites.

On balance, you are equally correct

—Arthur C. Clarke

The elite maintain their standing through ignorance willful or otherwise.

That would be CCP.
