Also worth checking market orders, maybe OP put up a temporary buy order instead of an instant one.
I’ve enjoyed reading this thread. Your enthusiasm is refreshing to find.
One tip should you dip into wormholes: learn D-Scan. It’s your intel both for defense and offense purposes while there.
Hotkey is default „v“ key. You can use it in conjunction with solar system map or „F9“ default hotkey. Can play around with it in any kind of space, not just wormholes. It is also a useful tool to use in any kind of space, but especially useful in wormholes.
@Terrus_Askiras I think after i get done with SoE arc i may try an Abbysal Filament. That’s was our thoughts on the corp as well and eventually I think we will set one up and hopefully open it up to applicants one day.
I’m feeling more and more comfortable in the game, but also everyday I see exactly where I am on the learning curve. Lol.
Thank you again for the tips and info on corps! I may hit you up in chat one day!
Fly Safe!
@Mephiztopheleze definitely still thinking about EVE UNI. While everday i feel more comfortable with the game something happens and i see where i land on the learning cure. I just need to get off my duff and submit my application to them just to learn more and climb this lesrning curve.
@Dharmananda thank you for the offer! I got smoked last night by some NPC’s doing the SoE arc, luckily i had better undersranding of what to do with all y’alls help yesterday.
I did find a website called EVE workbench and bought the suggested loadout the best I could, and i used some of the 1 million SP i claimed to train the skills I needed to better run the weapons and manage the capacitor i think is what it’s called. The ship performed much better the second go around! The NPC’s were able to get my sheilds down and a few ticks of my armor but i was much better prepared for the fight. My weapons had a longer range so i was able to engage them soon and start sorting them out.
When i get to the big bad if i need help i will definitely look to see if your online!
@Nicen_Jehr it was as @Uriel_the_Flame said. I placed a buy order instead of buying it outright. Also I learned last night how to find where the items I bought are located when they are in a different location than I am. That took a while but i figure it out.
One question. How do i switch it to instant buy? When I was buying my new weapons i moticed i could right click and select buy this and it was instant. Is there a way other than this?
@Io_Koval thank you! This whole experience has been refreshing for me as well. Coming from other MMO’s and online games that tend to be toxic the welcome I’ve recieved here with advice so freely given both here and in-game just makes me want to play that much more when i get home in the evenings.
I figured out the “v” hotkey last night. I was trying to take a screen shot for a new desktop wallpaper and i couldn’t figure out how to make the UI go away. I eventually googled it but only after i hit a few keys with v being one of them.
Would it be worth it to just hang out in high sec and play around with d scan and learn how to interpret the data if feeds me?
There was a nice event around easter for several years when you have to dscan eggs located at moons or mining belts, that was a good training.
You can D-scan quite anything in space, like scanning for Drones and MTUs. Also you can scan for wrecks - if a PvE ship is nearby (the bigger the better), perhaps there’s some juicy salvage. You can adjust range and narrow the angle, so you are able to find out how far away these items are and if they are close to a celestial or site.
If they are not (but in so called deadspace), you need a combat scanner and probes to actively locate ships, drones, or MTUs. Wrecks can’t be probed down.

It will look similar to this below but this is for selling (couldn’t find an image with a buy panel and not going to sign in just to take a screenshot) and change the duration to immediate as shown on the picture:
Otherwise it will look similar to this one below if there is a duration:
Glad you’re having a good time! Because believe me, there’s a lot of toxicity in Eve Online as well. I hope it does not deter you when you encounter it.
That’s entirely up to you and your learning style. You certainly can do that, as it’s a sandbox with no rules on „how to learn“. Some people learn better by practice, others learn better by doing it live. So whether it’s „worth it“ is something I cannot tell you.
I can say that D-Scan is a very powerful tool that is criminally not a part of any New Player Experience in the game. Still. 2 decades after launch. Madness.
Great to see you having so much fun in game
@Uriel_the_Flame thank you! I will look at that tonight
@Io_Koval unfortunately toxicity is everywhere. I can say without a shadow of a doubt those those you who have responded here and the few in the game i have talked to have made an excellent first impression.
I love sandbox games. The first MMO i played was Star Wars Galaxies back in the day and loved it. Always something to do and trouble to find.
I’m definitely going to practice D scanning may even mess around with it tonight try to figure it out.
@Geo_Eclipse_Oksaras i am! Besides actual game play my favorite part is the history of some of the battles!
One other thing I’d suggest that really helped maintain my enthusiasm for EVE back when I first started was to get into the lore. There are three novels I believe and all of them, in my view, were excellent reads. The first one, The Burning Life, was what got me into EVE in the first place - I picked it up in a charity shop and read it in a couple of sittings then thought I’d check out the game it was based on. It was an excellent read, I thought, and great for giving you a really good vibe of the various factions of New Eden.
The graphic novels are not bad, but the prose novels were all absolutely top notch in my view and very well worth your time.
I’ll see if i can find the burning life and give that a read
@Tael_D_ar how are you getting on mate?
interesting
Doing well thank you for asking! Did some wormholes got blapped a couple of times. Did some mining and went to .4 to mine some Kernite and got blapped once again. So now I’m running some T0 and T1 abbysals. Enjoying that so far and making decent ISK. Trying to build the confidence to try T1’s
