I am able to log in, and chat seems stable, but my activity tracker has completely reset. I am a bit salty about that.
Thank you for the work that has been done over the past week. My ability to login since DT this morning has improved. It does take a while but I am happy to say I can at least log in.
Connectivity is better as well. As long as I am not regularly changing systems or docking / undocking I am staying online for about 2 hours. Lag is still semi prevalent with occasional spikes but nothing as bad as it has been for the last week.
All in all, moving in the right direction.

I am still not able to log in to any account
What does that mean? I got disco a week before in a empty emerging conduit site. Do you state now that my ship is ash after I can reconnect?
Day 9. The game is not playable. Canât connect, keep trying. When I finally connect, lagged, chat not working. Trying againâŚno connection at all, using all the little tricks mentioned earlier.
3/10 times it works okay enough just to check stuff ingame, then the lag hits or disconnecting.

So yea soon as you connect and you have a kill report of your ship destroyed go to the support area file a ticket with support and say my ship was destroyed on this date at this time due to the connection issues. They will investigate it and refund you the items that have been destroyed. Obvs iif the loot fairy is kind you may have those mods in the wreck so quickly grab them.
Yeah, tried that, clear DNS cache, bypassing DNS server in my router. Called my ISP, they were helpful as they could be, but noted the DDoS and said they couldnât help until the attack ended. They were the first ones to suggest a VPN, and that was about 6 days ago. I appreciate all the suggestions that have been made on this board, but it looks like for better or worse the resolution lies with CCP.
So for me Iâve noticed that in the morning or early afternoon i have no problems connecting to the server or with chat, but as soon as the time reaches 4pm EST, I have to relog and I lose chat
It just gets worse and worse after each patch. Does CCP really have any clue as to what they are doing? I would truly hope so but it doesnât look as if it is so.
According to Cloudflare the largest DDoS in history was the 2018 attack on GitHub. It was resolved in 20 minutes. So I guess some people can do something about a well orchestrated DDoS attack.
I know, I know, CCP is a special snowflake blah blah single server blah blah video game blah blah.
Still, other video games manage to weather DDoS attacks better than this, or is this the worst DDoS in history? If that is the case I am surprised the international gaming/computer/business press hasnât jumped all over the story.
Hi, thanks for your answer. One question, for what reason should my ship been destroyed on disco?
Yesterday no problems after a week of no local or login issues. Today cannot even log in. This is getting beyond frustrating. Guess I go to Star Citizen today and add to my frustration.
hey Dev ppl how about more frequent updates and all. also why donât you get a 3rd party security engineering firm in to help or even some of the players who work in the field. I been in the computer field since the early 70âs and had my own bussiness before I retired recently. We helped a number of companies that were attacked and usually resolved the problem within 3 days. The fact that Ccp is now into its 2nd week of this is showing that they need better engâs and tech personal and that most of the devâs are not worth the salary they are paid
Agree
I shouldnt have to use a vpn
Star Citizen is a complete waste of time in its present state. I am a backer and used to sub and have over $500 invested in ships and equipment. The game is totally unplayable with all the bugs and disconnects. It is way more frustrating to try to play than what I am experiencing in Eve the past week. I hope one day Star Citizen becomes a reality but how much longer must we wait? They are off the rails on their road-map for the game it may be years more before we get a functional playable game.
Agree with your assessment
It is not easy when all of your game communication has to go to the same cluster. Every other game is instanced and the solution is automatically distributed. Which means that the biggest DDoS has to be split up on many servers in order to do a lot of damage.
That is why the attack on github was twarted fast. A bit of filtering, bit of load balancing and you are good. But github doesnât do compute, it just serves as storage which is trivial to parallelise.
CCP can be faulted for farming out chat server, which was an amazingly bad decision, and, maybe, for not including some kind of internal VPN connectivity to distribute the connection to the server making them harder to DDoS. For the first part they are in good company as even smart companies are going all crazy about the cloud (it cures cancer tooâŚ) but the second thing they would be first ones on the planet so not exactly surprising they donât have it.
On the other hand once users suggested TiDi they did implement it and are unique in the world with it so we know that CCP can do great things when management allows them to do it
Infinitely long. What they promised (essentially EVE numbers but twitch gameplay that demands high FPS), is not possible with todayâs technology and will not be for the foreseeable future. It is physically impossible to make a game that they sold.
In other words, get ready for an absurdly long wait for the working game if it ever happens. While hype and PR know no limits the reality does
