There. Now, be productive and try to understand that point of view. ![]()
Good point. I was just trying to say the game needs more chaos. For a game based on PVP and destruction, everybody seems all too cozy. I see the same people doing the same things (myself included) everyday. I would like to be forced to change my behavior and adapt on a regular basis. Nowhere should be safe, there should be constant change (destruction) both through PVP (yes, ganking as well) and through PVE. Of course, my play style generally uses pretty cheap, easy to replace ships so of course I would say these things
They know better than to say they are opposed to ganking, because everyone will tell them to find a different game. So they pretend, “I’m not opposed to ganking but…” and then they call for more restrictions to make ganking a ‘challenge’. This is just crying for ganking to be nerfed, as their ultimate goal is to make ganking non-viable. Ultimately, they demonstrate intellectual dishonesty, and they will often claim (without evidence) that ganking drives new players from the game, ganking is ‘no risk’, and ganking is ‘too easy’. They also love to pretend ganking makes ‘no sense’, because supposedly CONCORD should prevent all ganking, which ignores the game’s genre. Such individuals consistently ignore all evidence to the contrary, and they frequently create sockpuppet alts to generate false ‘consensus’.
Yeah well, things aren’t what they used to be. I miss the good ol’ days. It’s a shame I couldn’t find any tips or help from anyone. I quit because I couldn’t climb that learning curve- I lived in High and Null and got nowhere. If I knew then what I know now? It would have been glorious!
Back then, High Sec was way more profitable and way more dangerous. Permanent Ice Fields that never despawn, players everywhere guarding belts with combat alts, and gate camps from one Trading Hub to another. You did not have to go to Jita to find people spamming scams- they were everywhere! “Hey, I’m moving! I need someone to haul all of this to my new home and I’ll pay you100 million ISK!” You’d see the contract and it would have a billion dollar insurance claim and the cargo would be garbage.
The lack of intercorporation conflict in highsec has always been one of the biggest disappointments about the game, to me. Highsec would be 1000% cooler if little 5-20 man groups were mixing it up periodically for control of some resource or whatever.
That’s what war decs were supposed to accomplish.
While I generally think the current war dec mechanics are ■■■■ and somehow, almost impossibly, worse than the original incarnation, there is nothing to declare war about in highsec because the available resources are effectively limitless.
That used to happen every single day. But resources were nerfed into the ground in High Sec. And Scarcity too. There’s nothing worth fighting for now. High Sec sucks ass because cave dwelling nullbears had nightmares about High Sec players being able to afford to waste ships. They cried for years and now, it’s hard to make anything in High.
Back in the day, as I’ve said before, battles happened all the time. Gate camps were everywhere- not just in Uedama. Asteroid fields were defended. Territory was real. Ice belts were permanent and counted as territory. I hung out in the free use ones.
Ships were a quarter of the cost they are now. Income was much higher even if you didn’t know what you were doing. Players would camp gates and destroy any ship that was on auto-pilot. High Sec was populated.
You didn’t need war decs back in the day before everyone was run out of High Sec or forced to quit.
How to punish high sec ganking? Maybe it worth to introduce fifth chapter to the AIR program. We have PVP, PVE, Industry and Discovery. I would add a new one called "Piracy”. So everyone will know how it works, will be able to do math and understand how security status of the system works…
Tasks (just from top of my head, likely you can suggest better):
- gank pod, shuttle, frigate, transport.
- Get SS below 0, belo -2, below -5
- Wash SS by 1, 2, 3 with tags
- Wash SS by 1, 2, 3 with PvE
- Etc
This may help new pilots to understand the game better (do not play Eve like games they played before).
I’m still not understanding why they need to be punished. They only win if you let them.
In terms of punishment… make gankers a legal target for everyone for X days (not limited by how many times pilot be killed… single limit - duration).
That is why I would like if game will provide a chapter with education about how Piracy works.
I would like to see the billboards have a “most wanted” feature, like they used to with the old bounty system. Post the names and pictures of the top five gankers/pirates that have made the largest kills of the day in high sec on the billboards as a warning to everyone and spread the infamy of the gankers. Maybe they have the name of the system where they made their last gank as a warning as well.
As it is I never look at the billboards, this might put something a little interesting back in the game.
Oh, that was nice.
there’s no need for that. If you want to hurt them, fit your own mining ship properly and it cannot go boom… ever.
Take a look at these examples of theirs:
This has no defensive mods at all. Without shields, it’s made out of cardboard. This pilot needs to be taught how to play. The gankers do that.
Now look at this one:
This one has defensive mods, but the absolute worst ones. He needs to be taught the right way.
First, no one should be flying a Hulk in High Sec unless an Orca is on grid with you. They’re too fragile and the mining hold fills up in 3 minutes (with the best yield). If you DO have an Orca on grid, you need to make sure that the Orca is sporting at least one shield burst. With an Orca on grid with a shield burst (Extension charge) and T2 active shield hardeners, you can achieve almost 50,000 EHP. That will deter most gank squads. If the Orca pilot knows what he’s doing and is ready with shield drones and/or a remote shield booster, you’re golden. You now cannot be ganked.
NOW… if you go out alone in a Hulk fit like the two above, well, you’re going to be warping back home in a cute little pod getting laughed at the entire way. Fly a Mackinaw or Skiff if you’re solo.
You don’t need to punish players for helping you learn how to stay alive. You need to learn from the ones who just blew you up.
Go boom, ask questions, buy a new ship, and fit it properly. You don’t have to sacrifice Yield on a Hulk to protect it.
This is my alt’s Hulk:
I blew it up myself with my Marauder in a duel. I was bored and was considering retiring the alt. I wanted to see what it would take for a big marauder to destroy it- the answer: not much!!!
But here’s her fit. This is how I fit a Hulk.
Concord is on grid so why not have them scoop up the “gankee” loot and shift it into asset safety?
I mean Null has asset safety and that’s supposed to be unsafe and lawless.
Some stuff still gets destroyed - which is a win for the economy and the ganker still gets to brag about ruining someone’s day.
Ganking for profit dies a death. I’ve no problem with that.
High sec has asset safety too. It works the same way. Wormhole does not have it.
Thank you, but I am trying to understand what the Ganked want. While I love to read the rage mails and locals, I simply do not understand what they would consider to be a fair and balanced punishment and/or risk that is not currently built into the system we all enjoy so much.
To have an interactive defensive mechanism that will add to uncertainty of the outcome of the gank.
Whether any idea has merit, that’s to be hashed out, remember to ask if CCP could code it in the 1st place or might be worth their effort?
I’m still curious to see what the proposed “noob” sys will bring.
