So dozen angry messages does not ring a belll? I mena more than dozen… on every patch day… on same topic… Bravo!!!
You need to give us the option to go back to the old UI. This is really poorly done. Do you not understand that this is a PvP game?
Here is my response to that:
- I do actually play this game. Not to some Overlord Null-Sec level, but I’ve been playing since 2006.
- Yes, I have been to several. One time I was misidentified as being part of CCP’s demo team for EVE Valkyrie during its beta. I have also appeared on EVE Pulse with Aldrith Shutaq in our PIE Uniforms.
- Yes, I do daily. Whilst some have said Photon is nice, others are now aghast that its a permanent feature.
- I do have multiple monitors. 3x 1080 24" Asus Monitors. I use one to play EVE on because trying to stretch it over all three is a) a pain in the backside to do and b) it doesn’t look all that great.
So what do we do then Brisc - if playing the game using a UI that is actively harming players by its design when the previous one did not? How do we go about continuing to play the game, when we told CCP numerous times that this would happen, yet nothing was done. You stated that you measure CCP’s success by the amounts of complaints you personally receive - that is a false measure to judge things, going by the amount of people having issues in this thread.
You want people to complain to you about it, then this is one.
unfortunately, new bigger monitor won’t heal deimentia
It has been quite tame today.
You keep pointing out what you think is the issue. The team has been consistently working on getting things addressed, and they’ve done a good job at fixing a lot of problems over the last year. They’re going to keep doing that.
Thanks for backing me up on the multiple monitors thing.
The most ironic statement in this thread.

I want to be diplomatic.
Because… i like this game.
If i must use the Photon there could be little things to make it more appealing (to me).
First is the dark grey background of the windows.
I would prefer a black one to increase the contrast on my big screen.
And to match the probe- and map-window.
Second is the lines between columns.
It makes it easier see informations more quickly.
Third is the glowing of things.
It would be good to just turn it off.
The glowing makes things blurry and on my little screen the glow is very prominent.
This three overall things would help to get used to the minor problems i have with Photon.

Over the last few years CCP has implemented so much literal crap that I’ve stopped giving feedback. If I still did that, I’d have to spend hours typing here every time they release something new. I value my time too highly to waste it on guys who have proven not to listen or care anyway. Suffice to say, Photon UI is garbage, there should be an opt-out. I’m on a 5K single monitor (one of the few guys who play on Mac).
The whole thing is just overdone There is no clear focus, no simplicity to this thing. UI should not be the end in itself. It’s not the fireworks. It’s the means to get to the fireworks. CCP completely misses the point of what a UI even is.
It is SO obvious how much CCP pays any attention to what is written in these forums. So why do we bother?
Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!
I thought people were very clear they want options, not my way or the highway. Now I was only JOKING when I told CCP we need undocking as well… but here we are docking and undocking banners and both with no off button! I never saw a developer troll their own game before. Here are some more items to add to really cheese people off;
- You are under attack banner.
- Your ship is taking damage banner.
- Your shields are down banner.
- Your armor has been destroyed banner.
- You have chosen to go to warp. Are you sure you want to warp away from combat? Y/N
- You have died. Would you like to purchase Plex or review what went wrong in battle? Y/N
Glad I could help.
Here are my gripes:
- I was already using Photon UI. I was fine with how it was… yesterday.
- Now that it’s fully implemented, my columns have been rearranged and my column widths are all screwed up.
- Fixing the column order and column widths has no effects on my other overview tabs. With 6 tabs, I have to fix each and every overview tab with no method of simply copying from one to the other.
- I have 6 characters. Fixing the column order and widths on one character’s overview has no effect on my other characters. There is no way to share those settings across accounts or characters. (the share button helps, but not that level of detail)
- I have to customize the overview 6 times on 6 characters… 36 times!!
Looking at this discussion of single or multiple monitor gaming and so on, I might add that as a basis it would be reasonable to assume that due to the very different roles and capabilities the game offers, different players in different situations use very different window configurations depending on the informations and functions and hierarchy of informations and functions that is important to them.
To this should be added individual preferences, of course, as much as possible.
And then you can come to the conclusion that a very good option, although it is undoubtedly difficult, are all the possibilities related to personalization. No, I don’t mean a bigger player portrait or something like that but changing colors, arrangement and size of elements - which has been done to a large extent, for example overview - and multiple overviews, font sizes, compact mode (for me these solutions are brilliant and thanks a lot for that). And I think this is a very good direction.
If someone wants to have a big button “loot all” or some other, because in a pvp situation where everything happens quickly it is more comfortable, it would be good if there was such a possibility. But if someone doesn’t need it, it’s good to have a smaller button etc.
And as for a few monitors - a lot of people play eve like that, it’s a fact. Some people also play one and that’s a fact too.
Personally, I think for pvp, I mean pvp which is done by like idk 70% of pvp players, with the right setting of windows, you can comfortably fit on one monitor.
And waving the mouse around three monitors, if you have to click quickly, paradoxically, does not have to be a better option than arranging several elements tightly, close to each other. On the other hand, multiple monitors are very comfortable if you are running a lot of data, multiple accounts, etc. But that’s just personal preference, in this case mine. Everyone likes a little differently and everyone has different needs. I think that needs to be taken into account and I see that it is being done which is very good, it needs a little more.
Posting from a WH perspective I have to wonder by what metric do you say 94% of people use proton? 50% of people may have a alt they haven’t turned photon off on because wormholers hate the new locations window. It’s people and places, not the old bookmark window, you can get to the window but only after a lot of faff and it’s all smooshed together in a bug unreadable lump in a situation where you often need to be reading very fast. The probe recovery window is absolutely tiny, it’s just insanely small and wasn’t designed by anyone who has ever done any scanning, aye sure I’ll hunt for the tiny button when a hostile shows on d-scan cheers thanks a lot.
Also why the chuffing merry nora did the locations window text default to brown instead of the photon colours for both minmatar and amarr?
I’m sure people have mentioned it but compact for scanner window is larger than normal view.
Everything is too dark, it just is, it’s like you designed this thing in jita and had no thought to what it would look like at the south end of the map.
It’s not about that the team is not fixing stuff. It is about how they fix it. Just look at the garbage they introduced in the wallet and market interface and sell as “easier to learn, reducing cognitive overload and better streamlined”. A harder to read, harder to understand interface is what they introduced and sell it as the opposite. They also introduced more bugs. Just because you are satisfied with mediocrity, doesn’t mean everyone else should have to.
They have also ignored just as many issues and never communicated the why and instead wasted their time on yet another useless and distracting docking animation. If they would put as much effort into Photon as they do put effort into useless features like that, Photon would indeed be in a better place than it is now.
77% of them used it before because CCP activated it for them and never asked for permission. Before CCP activated it forcefully, a mere 13% had used it. No one needed it, wanted to test it even. CCP had to forcefully activate it and bank on user laziness that they just ignore it and don’t deactivate it. It’s just another typical toxic CCP move to shove useless features down TQ’s throat. CCP rarely ever delivers a good feature that people actually want to use right away. They always deliver garbage first that needs incredible effort to fix and turn into an actually useable thing. This has been the case with the Agency, with the new skill window, with Photon, with the industry window, with any live event, with any new PVE, with the Trig Shits invasion. There is not a single instance in recent history where CCP delivered something desirable out of the box.
All the issues raised here in this topic have been long-standing issues or were recently introduced, and CCP has been ignoring these long-standing issues for months, over a year even by now. Your smooth-talking how they keep working on Photon doesn’t change this fact. Their lack of communication doesn’t help either. Other game developers keep posting regularly about such major changes and keep explaining their reasoning behind the changes. CCP has not done that with Photon at all. All you keep seeing from them are empty, useless marketing phrases.
They even resort to lies in these marketing phrases. Micro Widgets were possible with the old UI. The notification widget is proof of that.
nobody asked for this!
I’m trying to move the columns as well and can’t figure it out.
Just figured it out.
You can Right Click on the columns to change their order
Hi,
You removed the GRIDLINES IN MARKET CHART. This is unacceptable, rather thoughtless removal of an important feature. Please bring them back.
Another thing you removed from the market graph (previously): DECIMAL POINTS ON THE CHART. Look at the chart of tritanium and you’ll see that hovering over the avg price dot always shows a useless whole number, even though it should show hundredths place for such a cheap item. Ticking the “show cents” box in the wallet settings does NOT fix this issue.
General criticism: please stop MAKING THE UI WORSE in the name of being “sleek and modern” (it’s not - it’s just more difficult to use and less space-efficient). Every time you change the UI you remove feature after feature without even realizing it!
Give me the money to buy one, because that aint something I can justify - w arent all rich
I will the OLD UI back please ADD a function to switch at Photon and old UI
