Version 21.02 - General Feedback

It was said mostly tongue in cheek to begin with, although I do think that if the issue is screen space, then getting a new monitor is a much simpler solution than demanding the company redesign the UI to benefit a tiny percentage of the user base who are apparently playing on 13 inch laptops alone.

Thank you for at least acknowledging that they have done this. I cannot tell you how many of these complaints include statements like “they never fix anything after it goes live” etc, and while that was 100% true in the past, this team has done a ton of iteration on Photon and they deserve at least some benefit of the doubt when it comes to getting the rest of the stuff fixed.

I never said anybody was expected to. I simply made the statement, and had it vociferously denied, yet almost everybody in this thread who has talked about how many monitors they have has said they use more than one. Go figure.

I offered to pay for a new monitor for Dyver, but he didn’t take me up on it. There’s already a significant investment to be able to play the game in the first place - you need a computer, you need broadband access, you need a sub - that I don’t get why so many people get butthurt at the mention that maybe it’s time to upgrade if your current hardware isn’t doing the trick anymore.

This garbage just shows whoever worked on it has no idea what they’re doing and are complete amateurs at UI design. Somebody higher up at CCP should just step up and scrap the whole thing for the sake of the game and have those people work on other important stuff the game needs.

(Custom Colorblind Mode) also seems to completely mess with the colour scale even if you include all colours. The different security levels don’t seem have a distinct base colour and bleed into each other continuously. Might work for those who never undock.

Because it is the UI that is not doing the trick anymore. The UI code could have been modernised without wrecking the look, functionality, efficiency and accessibility in the process.

It is a really simple point.

Sad again, sometimes you could save a lot of money if you would just do NOTHING. Why do you mess with UI colours, WHY? if you guys make changes, let at least the deafult of players as they are, instead of messing up. I want to enjoy gaming, not getting p… off when logging in.

WRONG!

Not everyone has multiple monitors. I play on a single 24" 1080p monitor…'cuz that is all I can afford.

Something else to consider…you and the rest of the CSM do NOT have enough accounts to financially support CCP. So, who does support CCP financially??? All of the “random guys” you snub your nose at. Such egotism…

I did see the announcement 2 weeks ago warning of this travesty and switched to photon to “get used” to it, and admittedly saw improvements from my tries last October. However, some of the most blatant feedback has been ignored, such as why the sliders in the d-scan window remain so damned small. https://i.imgur.com/mHSg0Kg.png

Here is an example of idiotic stupidity by the photon devs I just do not understand.
https://i.imgur.com/8zFM497.png Why oh why is there redundancy in the header Local [27] and Capsuleers in Channel 27??? Capsuleers in Channel is absolutely NOT needed, at all, period, end of story, etc. Removing it would result in an extra name being shown. Wasted space has been the single most topic regarding photon, and still the most ignored by the dev’s.

And you wonder why the “random guys” are angry…

Thank for at least acknowledging that they have made improvements since last October.

cost of living crisis in the UK means I have to balance heating my house with buying food, upgrading my 15 inch laptop is not exactly a concern at this point if I’m honest - I’m luckier than a lot of the UK eve players I know, a demographic that includes a lot of people who are unable to work so use eve as a social crutch, because I bought 3 years of eve before my energy prices doubled.

Upgrading the UI to one that requires a monitor upgrade instead of holding off and fixing the blank space issues was tone deaf.

You have a thing for monitors don’t you ?

This has nothing to do with new monitors. Bunch of other people already told you this, including your friend Arrendis.

A new monitor, no matter the size of it, won’t fix a badly designed UI.

Given that feedback has come from multiple people (I’m one of 2 I count in this thread alone) citing 17" laptop monitors, and there’s somoene who’s got a 5k monitor you’ve admitted is larger than your own pointing out the same issue, I think this response is more than a little disingenuous. I was being about as silly with this part of my response as you had been with the part I quoted though, so thanks for not taking it too seriously as a criticism

I think it’s important to note that they ARE getting there. I don’t thiink photon is in a good enough state that removing the ability to roll back is timely. BUT if they had made the update today without removing the opt out functionality, this is good enough that I would have been happy not rolling back in its current state. But it’s “I personally” would be ok not rolling back. Not “I think the option is no longer needed” - it’s still got work that needs to be done before it’s actually at that point, imo.

And that’s not relevant when you claimed “everyone” and are now having to backpedal to “almost everyone in this thread” when the “everyone” was a required part of your claim in order for your counter-argument against the problems to make sense.

You figured it out. I’ve actually got a contract with Best Buy to shill new monitors to people.

This should end up as a case study in a UI design course on how to wreck a perfectly functional UI by making useless changes for the sake of changes.

  • large tab headers and window headers waste space
  • you have to adjust overview column widths on each overview tab for each character on an account which is both extremely frustrating and an obnoxious waste of time
  • the glowing window edges are an eyesore, add a way to turn them off
  • whoever designed this has no appreciation for how important it is to get the contrast right - buttons flashing when they’re clicked, chat messages having a bright background when they’re hovered over, the system name in the top left (and a lot of other text, like text in the show info window) being significantly dimmer than before are just a few examples of bad aesthetic changes which make playing actually painful (also, the system info sometimes gets scrambled up)
  • removing lines on everything from the overview to the show info window to the market makes reading information harder and, again, an eyesore.

If you’re going to make the UI intentionally more unpleasant to use, at least make it like the ridiculous UI click sound where users can turn it off. I, like many others here I am sure, am not holding my breath though, knowing that this is the same dev team that has persistently (even in the face of consistently declining player numbers) been making bad game changes for the last 8 years or so.

If that makes you happy , I can’t stand in your happiness way

I never said everyone. I said most people. I have always said most people. I’m a lawyer, and I qualify (almost) everything.

and yet you refuse to acknowledge the rest of my argument…

you’ve lost my trust and my vote next year

Most of the rest of your argument was just being snippy with me about my word choice (which I couldn’t care less about), and complaining about the local/capsuleer thing, which I believe is a holdover from the old UI and DUST integration.

Regardless, I expect that will be fixed eventually.

You… uhhh… you may want to check your facts on that before making an obviously and demonstrably false claim like this…

Oh, you got me. One time I exaggerated. My bad.

This seals it. If I’ve lost Vjorn’s trust and support, I clearly have no chance at winning next year.

I solemnly swear (if you still have any faith in me since I was a vicious liar about saying “everybody” one time) I will not run for reelection to the CSM this year.

You have my word.

might I suggest that this is going off topic and away from the real issue, which is mine and therefore clearly of the deepest concern.

The text in the locations window, (which isn’t it’s the people and places window which already has it’s own place on the side bar), being brown by default for minmatar and amarr character and unreadable even when set to blue.

Oh dear, now you have really been caught telling porkies.

Yes, I see that you have subsequently edited your original post to insert the word “Almost”. But originally it said simply “Everybody”. I quoted you before you started editing yourself out of the hole you had dug.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, trying to alter the record. Tsk, tsk.
