Version 21.02 - General Feedback

I just logged in on my tiny screened laptop and checked this out, and I can read it. Granted, I have good eyes, but they aren’t what they used to be.

Ever the pedant.

Can not get the game to run - I log in get into station and leave station on only to freeze up when undocked.

I mean, that bit was clearly a joke.

Says a supposed lawyer!

You really are covering yourself in… glory… no, that’s not it… anyway, in something tonight.

Some stronger chat tab blinks would be good. Caz you can hardly see the blink

I gotta admit, that one was even more pedantic than I tend to go for… so, you know, @Vortigern_Vitalis … One pedant to another… respect.

Your best bet is to make a ticket , under technical issues or stuck … I wish you good luck with that , I have a feeling the queue is a long one after today.

It’s the second example I’ve pointed out in this latest bit of conversation, but probably best to listen to the voice of reason replying to you and get back on topic.

Central issues I see with the new UI are:

-inventory screen’s “compact” mode doesn’t actually make anything of value any more compact than the normal view, and instead removes actually important information which shouldn’t be hidden even in compact mode.
-“compact” window margins still aren’t even remotely close to what “compact” should mean, let alone as streamlined and competently-designed as the old UI’s window margins. Of particular note, the header text shows off on most windows that the gap at the bottom of the window header is about as large as the margins actually need to be, while every other side of the header has a massive waste of space aurrounding it for no reason.
-market and overview screens, along with other screens with colums of text, no longer have lines dividing the columns. The removal of this visual element is actively detrimental to readability and there really, REALLY need to be an option (preferably enabled by default) to restore these dividing lines for better information clarity.

There are, of course, lots of other things wrong that need work still, but those are the primary and most urgent/immediate problems. And even these issues are ones I find easy enough to work around for now. And there may be other serious issues which affect players who engage iin content I’m not as personally invested in, but as I don’t now as much about that, I can’t list those potentially critical elements (and will gladly defer to the others who have already been doing so for their gameplay).

Thank you kindly. I would have let it go, but when lawyers start boasting about how jolly, jolly careful with their language, and start editing their posts to hide the fact that they have not been so jolly, jolly careful…

LOL, now you’re questioning my credentials? You want my bar number?

/sigh

Yeh I spend about 6 hours a day scanning, without gates or a eve map wormholers live and feed on bookmarks

When you have a shared corp bookmark folder for wormholes you have separate folders for things like wormholes and data sites - there were tricks you could do with * to bring things to the top and what you want is to be able to clearly look at that window and see the separate elements to it.

As it is now what was the simplest box in eve with the old UI is just crammed together in a lump, and in order to read the same things as you could before you have to make it massive.

Sir, this is 'Murca! We don’t put bar codes on people! We just let them fall through the cracks into a permanently disenfranchised underclass, here to be exploited in their basic needs by their corporate mas–huh? Oh, that’s the Caldari?

Crap. Muh bad. It’s getting hard to tell the difference between dystopian hellscapes, sometimes. On the other hand, you know the number of a good bar?

Just when you think this UI can’t be any worse, you read that Brisc Rubal defends it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Why does that matter? I have it on VERY GOOD AUTHORITY I’m a nobody, just another player.

Look, in all seriousness, I understand that some folks don’t like it. Most of the folks here who don’t like it have not had a year to get used to it, like those of us who adopted it early because we could see the handwriting on the wall. I expect that in six months, between the UI team continuing to make fixes, and just general use, most of these complaints will be addressed.

ok but i’d like to play eve during those six months so could we please just be able to opt out until then, what does it matter for CCP. and if in six months it takes another six to really fix the issues, then add another 6 months opt out. basically opt out until it’s objectively better than the old one. which right now it isn’t.

A week ago, you and Feld were assuring people that most Photon problems would be fixed before enforced migration today.

Now you think six months?

You’ve had a year’s worth of opt-out. It matters a lot, because they can’t spend the next six months designing new content for the game and having to verify that it works on two separate UIs, including one that’s a decade old and filled with clunky stuff - the main reason they’re redesigning it in the first place.

Again, as even Dyver admitted, they fixed a bunch of stuff in that two week time period. I never said they’d fix everything, nor was it ever realistic to assume they’d fix everything. But even some of the folks complaining here have said they’ve made a lot of changes since last year.

All I can say is what the team has said publicly - they are working hard to fix as many issues as they can. I don’t have any idea how long that will take, and neither do you.

the old UI being filled with clunky stuff is on them, usually when you pass down your work to colleagues in a professional setting you should ensure the long term which apparently they failed to do. Can’t they just code an UI from the ground up to look exactly like the old one? you know the one with 20 years of incremental improvements that they’re throwing out the window right now for the sake of ‘‘novelty’’ because they failed to pass down their work properly over years, that’s on them.

I’ve spent some time configuring the UI to the best i can
There are still problems , primarily scaling and colour
This has been sold as an improvement but the end result is inferior to the normal UI
Why are there less configuation options in terms of colour ?
Not everybody has 20/20 vision, the older we get the more compromized our vision becomes and the greater configuration we need in options
The months that this has been in development and this is what we have forced upon us
This is disrespectful to paying customers, quite frankly its half assed and its sloppy
Whoever has been in an oversight position on this project in my opinion should be removed
i request the origional UI to be reactived until such a time that the New UI is at an acceptable Quality
This New UI makes me not want to log in and do things
