Wardec Nerf incoming

No one wants to risk a ban. So what would you suggest, that everyone stops innovating and discovering new emergent gameplay? Or should we ask CCP first just to get a generic answer and then get slapped anyway?

This is some serious ■■■■■■■■ and it is actually something that infuriates me to no end. Ganking is part of the game, it is even intended gameplay, as the red setting and CONCORD’s sole purpose are for this very mechanic. Yet if you play the criminal it feels like you are constantly walking the gray line.

The mechanic that supposedly got @Faylee_Freir banned, pulling CONCORD with a noob ship, I use it every day I play and I’m sure CCP is very aware of this. Yet somehow in some circumstances it is suddenly not OK. Why?

I know now we will probably get the usual shitty carebear response to just stop grieving or whatever… that is all complete ■■■■■■■■, this is an intended game mechanic and pushing the limits with new ideas should not just end in a ban. If anything is not ok, then why not ■■■■■■■ talk to the player first??

They sometimes even advertise the crazy stuff people do. For example burn Jita, they even mention that in one of their last trailers as an epic historic event. Yet I would bet a lot of ISK that this could have turned out completely different if at that day someone else at CCP was calling the shots. Suddenly everyone would have been banned for pushing the boundaries too far.

If they keep doing ■■■■ like this then soon none who has any will to innovate will be left, because they are all banned for some flaky reason or just left because they didn’t want to pay 15$ a month to be at the mercy of a gm who hands out blank reason bans on a whim…

No, not.going to say that. Just that I’m not going to play lawyer games as to what should and shouldn’t be ok, and try and predict where CCP will draw the line.
I’m literally agreeing that more clarity is good and that some mechanics changes would provide a lot more clarity for everyone.

As for not talking to people first though, you know when you are close to a line. If the first time is always a free pass people will abuse the heck out of lines then use their free pass. You might not, who knows. But on the whole Eve players abuse anything they can.

Anyway. We are wandering well off the actual topic of this thread here.

To continue with my own speculations, I think this may well be a great way to see unintended consequences in action.

When people are passionate (ie passionately hate) something, they don’t take into account how that same thing can be beneficial, in some cases beneficial to them. Perhaps wardeccing might fit.

War dec corps (and gankers) kill lots of stuff in ships big and small, ships and items that need replacing. Killing stuff is the engine that powers the EVE economy. Now less stuff will die in high sec (unless the war deccers turn full on to ganking to compensate, which ironically would be another form of unintended consequence).

What happens to the value of things in a game where there are infinitely respawning resources but you just killed what is probably a major materials sink?

Just move to delve and put it towards rorquals and capitals.

The vocal majority are Nullsec dudes. They likely have their own isolated markets. Just keep it all in-house and build for thenalliance.

This concern doesn’t seem supported by the summary of data we have.
Its addressing the fact people log off during wars and stay logged off.
Which means that people logged off aren’t losing ships in any significant quantity.
The guys losing big ticket items like freighters probably own structures they are running goods to. Yes they can play games to avoid wardecs, but they already could do that via npc corps for haulers if they wanted.

So unless you have data we don’t I’ll be surprised to see a major shift.in destruction figures.
I really think it’s going to be mostly business as usual.

I fully agree with that general sentiment; But where we most certainly disagree on is the degree is should exist.
I won’t rehash the specifics of our disagreements here. :slightly_smiling_face:

Perhaps the wardeccers are going to be the ones who need a reason.

Can salt be compressed in the hold?

Heh. Habit, probably.

That’s the problem with bias, it clouds thinking.

The people war deccers made log off aren’t losing anything. They also aren’t producing anything either.

It’s like c loaky campers in null. Everyone hates them so much and wants them gone, while not considering the idea that c loaky campers might help the economy by suppressing people who would otherwise be adding to the spew of isk and materials coming from null sec.

There is no such thing as a 100% good or 100% bad thing. Which is why people should try to think past their biases when assessing a situation. Time and time again ive watched people cheer at the announcement of a change because they didn’t realize that in the end it was them getting screwed, not the people they hate.

Time will tell.

If they keep doing ■■■■ like this then soon none who has any will to play the game leisurely will be left, because they are ganked for some flaky reason or just left because they didn’t want to pay 15$ a month to be at the mercy of a ganker who hands out ganks on a whim…

Your whine sounds familiar. Way to shift blame to a company trying to save their bottom line.

There is nothing wrong with ganking. Ganking people was innovation 10+ years ago. You’re not innovating now. You’re just doing the same tired old ganking. Dial it back and pick your targets more carefully. Or don’t. I mean…keep ganking every day and keep spouting your rhetoric so it is nerfed so hard it isn’t worth doing.

Unfortunately players will never be able to self-regulate their behavior.
There will always be that jackass who takes a bit to far, far to often.

Tldr:
I would like to see a revamp of the UI involved with the empire war system and not necessarily changes to the war mechanics. Currently, it is difficult to see all parties involved in a war with someone else and the current war report setup leaves no incentive for groups to try to organize against a larger aggressor. A revamp should focus on making it easier to see all involved parties of a war (A is at war with B and C; D is assisting B but is at war with C), highlighting potential corp contacts (such as a founder or ceo), and changing war reports to include credit for a kill for all groups involved.

In my Eve career I have participated in all kinds of activities including empire-based wars on both the aggressor and defender side. One of the more impactful wars was when a larger group war deced a lot of corps in their local active region. With my corp being just a handful of people, I knew that unless we could limit their numbers when engaging, they would be too organized and numerous. They had a solid group of 10-15 disciplined pilots, but some of the groups they had war deced were alliances with 1000+ people.

I spent hours going through all of their active and pending wars noting down CEOs, Founders, and anyone mentioned in any of the corp or alliance bios as contact people in preparation. I joined their public channels, sent eve mails, tried direct convos all to try to form an intel channel where these groups could talk and attempt to organize instead of just feeding them kills one ship at a time. It was tedious, most groups ignored me but I did get some to join the channel.

It all finally came together in one fight, one of the larger groups planned to hit one of the aggressor’s camps and passed the plan to the channel. I was the only one in my corp on at the time and I had been watching the camp in a Falcon just eyeing up a Vindicator with 50+ kill marks on it.

When the trap was sprung I was able to jam that Vindicator and a few other ships on the field. It ended with them losing a few ships and getting out what they could. They were forced to reform and reship before trying to take back the field. I was so excited to see my hard work of trying to connect these groups together and fight back start to pay off because my corp could not have done it alone. Best of all was that sweet sweet Vindicator kill!

Eagerly, I opened our war report to look at the stats and see that Vindicator and Deimos kill… only to find nothing there. I waited, thinking it may just need some time to update. I soon found out that if the final blow is landed by a person with a different war (even if you share the same war targets) that kill will not go on your war report! This was a big moral hit for us to find out even if we supported groups with larger numbers our war report would not reflect the effort or accomplishments we worked for. It certainly would show any losses we suffered on their war report though.

It turns something similar happens for structure kills too. In a different war we took a structure to 20% haul only to have to evac when a different, much larger group we were at war with entered the system to attack that same structure. Despite us doing 80% of that final damage we were not listed on the kill mail. All three groups were at war with each other, we all did damage but only one party was represented. Again, no kill mail for the war report.

The main problem is the ridged framework the empire war system sits on top of. It seems to have been designed with the idea that it will only ever be two groups fighting each other. Improve that, make it easier for groups to organize, give everyone credit for a kill on a war target they participated on and maybe the groups referenced by CCPs metrics will see a way they can play. If they cannot adapt, I don’t see anything wrong with CCPs historically stated view of wars being avoided by remaining in an NPC corp. There is nothing stopping players, new or old, from forming in their own chat channels, playing together, and being in an NPC corp.

It does not make sense to me to introduce a new kind of corp or mechanic limiting war decs just to avoid empire wars or introduce changes to game mechanics that have been in play for years without having a clear objective, full plan, or time table to follow.

In the past decade their wallets haven’t been shrinking as rapidly as now. And not just for this but other sources as well and now they’re feeling it, that’s for sure.

The only question is if there are enough actually capable people to do something about it that will actually work.

Dear summer child. I will stop ganking when CCP shuts down the server or if it gets removed from the game. Every time someone posts a stupid suggestion like yours I will butcher two more carebears that day to calm down Bob because of your heretic words.

They may have made wardecs zzz boring but that just means we can all just randomly kill in Tornados

To be honest I’ve generated more tears and hate mail from cloaky camping than all the war targets I’ve encountered, ever.

How exactly do you expect this to work and how will this stop them from blowing up your ship? A text field where one enters a reason? A multiple choice option with predefined reasons? You’ve got to admit that asking for a reason is not going to change much.

Wardeccers are doing it for fun, to dominate, to get ahead and to get on top of the game. They’ve figured it out and they’ll continue to do so. Those who require a reason first are the ones who are still trying to figure out the game. There will always be players who are behind and overwhelmed by the complexity of the game and who don’t want to lose a single ship, while those with more experience pray on the weak for sport. This is the case for any PvP game I’ve ever played, except for those games, that are so simple that one comprehend them within an hour like perhaps Rock, Paper & Scissor.

You haven’t thought this through, but you believe asking for a reason will somehow magically change the outcome and give you a head start. All that’s going to change really is that we’re going to get social corps or some form of immunity. Everyone else gets a new mechanic, possibly with more twists than before and more difficult, but the killing will remain as one-sided as it always has been, unless CCP starts nerfing the game so much that one cannot hunt with 10 vs. 2 players.

You mean The Evil Three are alive. Two of the five are dead now.

That was FAST !!!
