Warning-less Auto-Subscription Renewal - Now I can't pay Rent

All of those things you would agree to. Just like your Eve online subscription.

Not for nothing but if $20 is screwing up your rent payment then dude you got bigger issues than Eve’s auto billing!

Due to how toxic and ridiculous the thread has become, I think its time to further clear my point and elaborate on why I intended to post this.

The billing took me by surprise, I wasn’t aware when exactly I would be charged and forgot about it- expecting to have the usual email stating that “You have X days left on your Omega Status with this account” before panic’ing to prepare for the payment.

I’m not blaming CCP nor asking for a Refund, I’m simply explaining the shitty situation I was put in that caused unneeded stress due to bad timing. I’m pointing out a possible flaw in the warning / reminder system (in that it doesn’t work all the time)

I am suggesting that there be a permanent toggle option to turn the Auto-Subscription Renewal service on/off. That’s all. I’m not threatening to sue CCP or some ■■■■ like many of you are acting upon.

As for outright victim blaming, stating that I either wouldn’t have enough to correct the Rent bounce regardless of weather CCP charged me or not; Please take a basic math class.

As quoted: “Yesterday, my rent bounced because I had $639.65 in my account and Rent is $640 (For some reason, they Direct Debit our rent), which was fine- told them to try again after putting another $1 in.”

I had enough to correct my Rent bounce, but because of bad-timing and forgetfulness I now do not. Thankfully payday is on Monday, but what if it wasn’t?

The Point is, It caused unnecessary stress because there’s no toggle option. You need to manually disable auto-renewal every time you renew your subscription.

If a single game sub keeps you from paying rent I have news for you.

Don’t sub to the game.

Don’t sub to the game a month prior- to having financial issues? Wut?
I’m not psychic. I can’t be like “Oh whats that? I’m going to have financial issues 30 days after subbing to this game? I guess I better not sub then-”

Like- seriously? lmao

What do you want from us already?! A pity party? To cry with you for you?! You failed to properly keep track of your finances, had a hiccup, and screwed up a rent payment! Ok sooooo why is that any of our concern(s)? What do we care?! You have an idea for an account management issue then contact CCP directly! WTF already?!

The Eve community.

I want a toggle option. As opposed to doing it every single time I renew my subscription. Can you not read?

I’m not gonna bother googling the meme but you know the one where the guy is riding his bike then he puts a stick in the wheel and blames something else for falling down

Please allow me my good sir

The auto-renewal wasn’t always there. I remember accounts lapsing because I hadn’t resubbed, and I didn’t have to do a darn thing.

Having the exact amount for rent on an account you clearly use for other stuff (since eve sub is on it), is maybe NOT the brightest idea.

If you are having IRL financial issues, I’d say go spend time to solve that instead of playing eve. Eve is a hobby and should not result in you having any financial issues because of it.

Yes, CCP could make some more features to their billing. But when all is said and done, it was your own mismanagement that resulted in it.

Me either.

I can. If you can’t maybe you should consider saving money for things that are needed.

It was there in 2006.

I’ve noticed, since I use paypal to sub, that sometimes it doesn’t take the money, and i’ll log in and see that i’m an alpha. I have to go back and resub then restart my skill queue.

and I do not have the option turned off for auto sub… it’s on.

Though I agree an upfront option would be good, what really concerns me is reading all this just made me worry for your family who rely on you to manage their finances (if you have any and if you are the one doing it). :worried:

OP is right. Auto renewal of the subscription used to be an option -you had to turn it on. Then CCP decided they could get money from people forgetting to unsub every single time they pay a sub, and came up with the current scheme.

OP is also right that CCP used to issue emails warning of the proximity of the end of subscription -at least they still did in 2016. Dunno now.

And as OP has proven, sometimes sh*t happens and autorenewal without warning of end of subscription is an inconvenience.

They still do. I was PLEXing my main’s account to train the expanded alpha and each time (several cases) when the omega was closing to expire they sent an e-mail (like one week prior, and maybe a few days prior too) so they surely do that still.

No it has never been an option in any MMO ever. Why do you people keep saying that? If you pay with a credit card it has always been renewed automatically unless you cancel your subscription.

And apparently I need to repeat myself, reminder emails are still being sent. But possibly not if you have an active subscription…
