So OP was made homeless by CCP… Cool story.
So, you being a dummy is a CCP scam. It tells you that it will auto-renew ffs…
Just call the media. Call Iceland goverment, call ccp. Call pearl abyss. Call your bank. Call ccps bank.
Get them to pay the fine.
If you make enough negative press about it ccp will just pay it.
Its business 101, it’s cheaper for businesses to just give away small free ■■■■ and small amounts of returns and refunds than spend the time dealing with negative ■■■■.
Amazon will just tell you to keep most items if damaged, it costs them more to get it returned.
Most banks will give back overdraft fees and late fees. You make them more money to be a continued customer than this single 20 or 30 fee.
Put this on Facebook and Twitter and all over ccps Facebook and Twitter. They dont want the bad press.
Email pcgamer and tell them ccp made you homeless.
Just raise a bunch of hell and make ccp pay you like a chump
The other day a seller on ebay refunded me US $2.00, because the shipping cost turned out to be lower than estimated. So I added her to my favorite sellers list. Eventually she’ll make a lot more than that $2.00 from sales to me. The point is, sometimes taking the high road instead of the grubby road is better business in the end.
Just because it’s industry standard, it shouldn’t mean that we settle for it inconveniencing our players or causing real life issues.
@Era_kanath - Please contact customer support if you’re still having issues with billing or need any more assistance.
I’ll bring this to the attention of the right people and we’ll see what we can do about making changes to reduce the chances of stuff like this happening in future.
And CCP Falcon gains another point in a large number of player books! Thank you for bringing this to the right folks!
ATTENTION:
Things are the way they have always been.
Damn it, CCP!
Dude, if you can’t manage your rent you really shouldn’t be living on your own. Get a life.
Era you sound like you need to get your life in order. Firstly anyone with half a brain knows most subscriptions auto renew or even default to a monthly higher fee until cancelled. Secondly. You sound like you need to be spending your time broadening your horizons rather than gaming anyway. No one should be balancing their finances that tightly.
But yes a toggle for auto renew would be good and a simple enough addition EVEn CCP should be able to do it
OP blames CCP for his poor money management skills. Someone please send OP a link to a video for creating a monthly budget, then maybe OP will take responsibility for HIS mistake.
Also, someone please give him a link to a Aussie job board. If money is so tight, OP should being working a second job instead of playing space pixels.
At least it’s turning to summer in Australia, so OP shouldn’t find it too cold living in his new cardboard box house.
It’s time to close this stupid thread!
This is interesting reaction because surely tens or maybe even hundreds of players have had a similar mishap in equally dire circumstances, but sucked it up because it was not the billing company that was at fault.
Especially interesting reaction if according to other people a toggle was available in the past, and the service was made worse when it was last redesigned.
But ok, good on you from PR standpoint I guess.
Just gonna say you can’t prevent things like this happening unless you create a toggle option where the toggle cancels the subscription immediately. And even then people might forget to press the toggle. But hey, I’m not the one running a multimillion dollar enterprise so what do I know.
And I might have tad of a personal take on this because I’ve been tight on money all my life and I find it odd a responsible adult is coddled this way. And maybe a bit jealous I admit because when a similar thing happened to me the reaction amounted to pretty much “HTFU” even from customer support.
Can be a PR stunt just as much as something reliable as he did not promise anything just that he brings it to the attention of related people and see what they can do about it.
So in the end they might do nothing, or even dismiss the whole thing with a hand wave once he mentions it, or even not mention it at all and it is already dismissed and his post was just an empty promise to deflect any negative PR.
But of course it can be just as well that he does mention it and they might do something about it, which might or might not really alter the situation much, as people not paying attention will face the same situation regardless.
But will see if they alter anything and if yes if it helps such people, if any at all.
Indeed and all in all if this ultimately results in more freedom of choice and better service for players, then \o o// \o/
It’s amazing the things people will defend “because that’s the way it is”, or because they want others to suffer what they have suffered (@Teinyhr).
I’d say only having the option of auto-renewal is a clear attempt to get unintended subscription fees. It’s not illegal or unique to CCP… but let’s call it what it is.
@OP: Your mistake was mentioning the part about your rent. Your personal finances and how you organize them are not really relevant to the real issue here, beyond serving as a specific example of the implications. It just opened you up to predictable personal attacks.
I crashed my car reading this.
Gib muns pls CCP?
I’ve never said or meant that.
All this thread I said that the system could also be better. I’ve been critical of people attacking OP as well.
I’m pretty tired of being made the villain here when I’ve addressed the OP politely (but not uncritically) the whole time.
Thanks for removing the insults… but it seems I struck a nerve?
You’ve been on both sides of the issue the whole thread. Based on the above quote, I stand by what I said.
Because people can have a divided opinion on a singular issue? I’m sympathetic to what happened to OP, but also think that a working adult should be a bit more aware of their finances, especially if (we do not know) they knew beforehand money would be tight.
I’ve learned to be frugal and absolutely dread not being able to control where my money goes and never use automatic subsciptions if I can avoid it. It is human nature to assume that other people work the same like you do, obviously that is not the case here and honestly this whole thread surprised me hard: “you mean people don’t cancel subs after payment? Inconceivable!”
However, mistakes also happen and I don’t like how people harp on him like he’s uncapable of being a functional adult just because of one mistake.
But again from my perspective I wouldn’t hold a company responsible (or call them borderline criminal) for what is essentially my mistake - they don’t know who is struggling financially at any given time. And I’m surprised that CCP’s rep apparently takes responsibility over something that realistically isn’t their responsibility. It’s certainly cool they apparently aren’t heartless, but I doubt he’s getting a refund.
In any case, as said, if this debacle ultimately results on better service and not just the industry standard bare minimum, then yay, this thread served a purpose.
