Welcome to the Agency - Feedback

Other than the 0second bug basically boning a number of people unless you extend things, would it be possible to have timers at 23 hours instead of 24?

Some of us filthy casuals cant afford to start these things an hour later every day thanks to completion times. If this is already supposed to be the case and is suppressed by the 0s bug, please ignore me :stuck_out_tongue:

Executive summary:
This article is an attempt to provide constructive feedback of “The Agency” event from my prospective as I progressed through it. Others are encouraged to post their experiences to provide a fuller prospective on the event and its pros and cons. With constructive feedback, it is hoped that this post and other comments are read by those who are the creators of content.

Day one:
I was kind of surprised that there was an event. I had no prior knowledge that the Agency was starting, until it went live. I am not sure if this was intended. If I would have known what was coming I would have prepared ships in advance. I happened to be in my favorite constellation for doing these kinds of PVE interactions, so I had several ships on hand, and quickly refitted for the local NPC. It took me a couple of hours to complete the 4 working quests, as the T3 cruiser and Battlecruiser quests would not complete. I spent quite a bit of time scanning down various combat sites thinking that only certain sites would trigger the 2-ship type use specific quests. This ultimately exacerbated a point I make further on.

The next couple of days went on with me just ignoring the ship specific quests until I noted a patch applied and then would try them again. After a few days those quests began to function, but differently worded indicating a 10 Faction NPC kill count instead of a combat site.

I received the single PLEX reward, but subsequent rewards were not delivered until 7/27 four days until the expiration of the event.

Once all the quests began to function correctly, I developed a methodology to do as many of them simultaneously as possible, I have lowered the time to complete to a little over an hour. This is difficult to reduce further as the scanning down of combat sites takes a while when lot of players are looking for these sites, and I must clear my cache to reset the timers from 0s or at least I did up to 7/26. This is an irritation that I could have done without.

On to pros and cons:

Pros:
This appears to a long-term project to provide additional PVE content to those of us who have been moaning for additional/improved PVE content geared towards the single player or small groups, for something like 13 years now. Well, there have been improvements overtime, but PVE is an area that a lot of the player base does participate in, and feels it is neglected. I’ll take anything I can get that is considered content for this area, and I play it out if only to provide feedback and logs, no matter how bugged it is.

Cons:

The rewards were not very incentivizing to entice a veteran. I don’t care about PLEX, but what I do care about in order of appearance: Ships, skill points, skins, boosters that increase primary attributes, ISK, boosters that increase effects, Tee shirts (Clothing), Trinkets/collectables and finally PLEX.

The inclusion of quests that require a T3 Cruiser are out of reach for Alpha accounts. I used a Gnosis out of convenience for a Battlecruiser, I had it handy and it is a “do all” boat. But, it is the only option for an Alpha to use. Unless an Alpha can get ahold of a Gnosis, the battlecruiser quest is not possible for them. Because of this I think many Alpha accounts don’t bother with the event, because they can only do 2/3 of the quests without obtaining an expensive and limited edition ship as well as the end reward being a skin for a ship they cannot fly. The market for the skin will likely be saturated for some time, so even selling the skin won’t be that profitable given the effort to obtain it. If possible, present a different set of quests to an Alpha that are all completable, and with rewards that are appropriate to Alpha accounts. This especially applies to true Alpha accounts and not Omega players alting an Alpha.

The 23 hour wait time to repeat the series is too long. This timer should be around 20 hours. This still holds to once a day repeating, unless you are obsessive about it. The reason for this is due to the time it takes to complete all 6 objectives. If you don’t finish all within a short period of each other, you won’t be able to repeat them simultaneously on the next cycle, unless you wait for all the quests to become available and then start. (This made the must clear your cache to reset timers bug extra infuriating) The result moves the repeat cycle ahead again for the following day. If you just proceed without all the quests available, you will spend nearly the same amount of time completing all 6 as you would have if you waited until all 6 were available and could be completed simultaneously. For the casual player, this ultimately pushes the time that you can complete the quests later into the evening in my case, originally starting at 9pm and over the course of the event moving to 12am before quest resets occurred. As the event progressed and I got faster I could keep this timer from additional advancement into the wee small hours. But there is little chance to reverse the time of reset once it progressed.

Summary: Yes, there are more cons listed than pros. But this isn’t designed to be a beat down, only some suggestions of where the activity could be improved as I suspect it is being designed for a long-term deployment loaded with various quest content over time.

We will be making sure that everyone gets the rewards that they have the points for.[/quote]

Well, I guess that’s great news for anyone who hasn’t encountered any of the numerous bugs…

edit: Hmmm… how did I break that quote ?

So I have thinked about that “event” that is indeed a daily system and apart from obvious bug fixing I have few things on my mind. I even noted everything in notebook to not forget. :stuck_out_tongue:

This feels like daily, so to counteract that (it have rather poor ratings among EVE playerbase), I propose few changes.
Make event feel like a true exclusive event, “elite” even, and do that by following:

  1. Make challenges feel like actual missions, acceptance is the key to completion. Dont bound it to everyone for free. Make missions have accept button, add entry to journal, have 24 hour timer for them, but dont give people any penalties if they dont complete it.
  2. Login Boosters: add button to activate booster when you want, but I suppose that is already in the works.
  3. Login boosters in my opinion should work longer: ~ 2 hours, and they should have timer of 12 hours between activations. They also should give less bonuses. People would in my opinion love additional booster for a few hours a day, when they log in, and that would make them stay longer in game and complete missions. Add different boosters to choose from. At least two. One for damage and one for tank.
  4. Retain the easiness of participation, by always making missions that can be completed everywhere. But add multitude of specific missions for many different activites, including PvP, mining, exploration, wormhole space, scanning, trading, hauling etc. There should be more kinds of missions to choose from, and the list available should be longer until it depletes.
  5. Add at least one new site with special enemy. Site should be landmarked on the overview and have few normal frigates named “Rogue clone” and only one dread spawn rat named: “Rogue clone facility overseer”.
  6. Loot from overseer should be in a form of crates that can be opened. Loot should be random and should sometimes include SP boosting item (Agency type), also loot table should consist of items like low grade implants, boosters, drugs, ectoplasm, ammunition, also fluff items like this seasoned dandruff type items.
  7. This site should spawn only in low sec, as this space needs more interaction and is a good lore place for such an event site! Tie it to lore about agency. It should be really RP and lore friendly. Also this site should not be spawning en masse, only few per constelation at all times.
  8. Rewards for completion of event should include some additional small amounts of SP in a form of 4000, 8000, 16000 SP Agency Skill Injector. This item should be also available from Rogue clone facility overseer.
  9. The last reward of an event course should consist of a crate named “mystery box” with one random Concord clothing item, one SP booster Agency type, 10 PLEX, also included should be a random SKIN or clothing item that was removed earlier from the shop.

Now how to deal with seasonality? Seasonality should be achieved by making additional missions with reduced completion conditions, available only during the special events. Also additional rewards included when achieving the key points along the event reward line completion, specific for season and included in the “mystery box” crates.

It’s been the “next downtime” and I still don’t have the Tengu skin the the redeem area. Will patiently wait, just wanted to let you know in case this wasn’t expected.

What things are changing for the August event? There’s nothing listed in the “Upcoming” forum and nothing in “Test Server Feedback”… so the things being changed are not public… uh, ok?

I am opposed to The Agency event as it was implemented in July. I prefer it didn’t exist. I could not have designed it any worse.

  1. From the start, the BC and T3C stuff didn’t function. I’m pretty sure it didn’t function on the test server, so why have people test it on the test server weeks ahead of time? The 0s bug. The 23 hour cycle time instead of 22 or less.
  2. Trash rewards, with only the end goal questionably being worth it. The final reward’s true value was as unclear as possible and maybe it’s a personal problem, but I was uncomfortably pushed to do the final reward… since it was the only thing of value and I couldn’t gauge its value. The rewards are a big deal here. I like skill training accelerators. I did those events zealously and without question. They were a smaller time commitment with a clear reward(+random bonus), repeat them as one likes. Back to the ambiguous valuation of the final reward. I can see how a fixed value could also be “a problem”: X amount of ISK may matter too little to some people or too much to others. If it was a T3C only event with a big reward for example, that would be discouraging to the people you shouldn’t be discouraging. Still, a more fixed value of final reward is better. …After this event, though, maybe we’ll all have a better valuation of “random new T3C SKIN.”
  3. On stream, you said there are 5 more events planned for the next 4 months. This is worrisome given everything I mentioned. Instead of working on my true interests, I worked on this event, again, mainly due to difficulty appraising how much value the final reward held. If events are going to occur often, that can be punishing for people in deciding on doing the event or not, or just getting worn down from the events’ activities.
  4. Log-in booster, as implemented, is trash. If it’s a small boost, then why bother with it. If it is a large boost, then it WILL unbalance the game. Why is it a limited hour boost at all? Actually, trash small boosts, too. I could see themeing like “Blood Raiders have taken over, all ships have less/more capacitor!”, but then it’s still altering PVP, so it is never acceptable. Boosts: don’t matter to some %, for the rest they do matter and therefore they’re ■■■■■■■ up the balance plain and simple. I want them gone.
  5. I spent ISK on a T3C for the first time. This was an ISK Sink. I’m fine with it, I’m just saying. I got to see a new hull in undocked lighting, but it’s an ISK loss to me. I’m not about to risk SP loss at my 3+yr age.

EVE is bad enough for new players with its free-to-play/pay-to-win game presentation, The Agency is not going to improve things significantly, especially if they cannot log on everyday. Also, stop trying to scam players with the “starter pack with more slots, more tank”. It’s a ■■■■■■■ embarrassment no matter how your perspective: player or corporate. I’m keenly aware of the player retention curve, but I don’t think such a tactic is really in your interest. Plenty more can be said on that topic but I’ll leave it for now at: “Don’t try (that hard) to scam the critical new players since you already are presenting yourself as an F2P/P2W game.”

This worries me the most … does this mean we will see more Agency like stuff and no real event?

More than likely.

I try to make this short. Have been doing the Events since the First Blood Harvest. I’m not even joking when I have to say that somehow someone managed to make the events worse and worse with each.

It’s really fascinating. Every single Event created a lot of discussions and players came up with a lot of ideas, concrete proposal and such. Everything that made any kind of sense was ignored. Everything that was good about the first Events was taken away. To the point of now, which is a completely meaningless, shallow and absolutely unengaging form of content.

I stopped contributing proposals to the whole Event thing because I felt we are not heard anyhow and critizising without being constructive is bad… Now I realize I can contribute in the only constructive way I can still think of at the current state of “events”: being destructive.

Just get rid of them and stop all this nonsense. Free the Dev hours for something that makes more sense, like taking a walk outside or go have a coffee. Really. This is getting embarassing.

P.S. and no: this is not a rant, it is me being constructive. These events are a shame for EVE and misrepresents heavily what this game can be. It can be interesting and if any outsider just looks at “events” they will think we have the worst kind of no-brain content humanly possible. Even afk-ratting is interesting compared to this.

Edit: and to the community I propose we stop trying to make proposals when it becomes obvious this will stay bad and probably they find a way to make it worse. Deny all constructive comments of proposing how to make this better. They will not listen. Event-team is inpenetratable for logic, reason or player experience.

Would not go that far, but the event team is a new hire. They likely have no expierience with EvE, and don’t yet believe that things working for other games do not work in New Eden. But I hope the cause is not lost yet.

Thank you for your post.

With the threat of more events like this on the horizon, I hope people will continue to speak truthfully.

Now, since I did all those dailies, may as well stay on the treadmill of ■■■■ and get my emoji badge. :psyccp:

They are looking for a way to mass-produce events. Easily swappable parts in a frame that’s easy to modify.

Consider those two (serpentis and this… whatever you call this) as an alpha feature.

I completed all six challenges yesterday. Logging on today, two of the six challenges that I have been given have been marked as “complete”. For “Battlecruiser Enforcement” “10/10 pirates killed” is shown and for “Bountiful Prey” 1,000,000/1,000,000 ISK earned". I can’t do anything with these two challenges.

The other four challenges which included versions of the two above (but with target totals set to zero) have all been completed normally and the “Next challenge” timer initiated.

The agency:

  1. rewards are shitty. 5 new skins would be better than 5 plexes and it would cost you less. These rewards are the worst I’ve ever seen in any game.
  2. Cooldown 24h is shitty. If you want to encourage players to log-in each day, make tasks avalaible once a day (can be competed at any time between servers restart). Cooldown 24h makes them impossible to do each day. Lets assume that I log in every day at 8 PM. Lets assume that I need 15 mins for fulfilling all the Agency tasks. So the first day I can complete them at 8:15, the next day can start at 8:15 and end up at 8:30 and so on. After few days I will have to give up fulfilling the daily task, because it will be avalaible too late.

Yup, probably worst run event I’ve participated in. When I got home today and logged in I bet you can’t guess what the status of my challenges was? You got it, 0s remaining. Oddly enough I didn’t even get my daily login booster either, it was also stuck on 0s. I logged out to start the LogLite to get another bug report going and at least the booster kicked in, but challenges still glitched, again. This is the 2nd day I’ve completely lost to this crap. My brother has actually lost 3 days of not being able to run the challenges because they never refreshed.

If it is intended to be done once a day, just have it reset at downtime, plain and simple. This 23 hour cooldown means if I don’t get a chance to log in at that mark then each day its going to be completed slightly later and later, eventually causing a skip because its too late. And that is presuming I don’t have huge delays in trying to get the dumb timers to refresh like they were supposed to.

Lets say that there is a lot of room for improvement. The biggest issue being the really shitty rewards. Doing ~40 tasks for five space diamonds, one 30 minute booster and a single skin? Come on, thats crap.

Scrap the 23 hour timer nonsense. Reset the stuff at server downtime

And look what’s back today:

So close, yet so far.

(I’d guess it decided I don’t get credit for the completed task because the agency window was minimized when I completed it.)

Ah, I didn’t know that. Sorry for the harsh words then. It anyway wasn’t so much a personalized criticism as a proposal to completely get rid of Events. If you draw a line from the first Blood Harvest and see how it went steep down the hill from there, with every event being worse then its presuccessor, it seems there is no other choice.

Unless the team finds some way to really include player feedback, I don’t see how any improvement will happen.
