Glad you explained your position further, though you can’t blame me for taking your rather hard quote as your wrote it.
That being said, the biggest drain on things built, such as ships-- is NOT, nor ever has been, ships exploding–it’s player attrition from the game. And I think that bring us back to close to the subject of the thread–for some of the things shared by this new player are also true for vets that just decide, for whatever reason, not to long on again.
I’m not sure what the point is here. Sure, some assets are locked away from the economy if a player quits, but that is hardy an issue. This has nothing to do with the intended idea that everlasting conflict introduces a need for resources and gives the players who rather gather resources than take part in combat an active role in the whole picture.
Did you know that there are two missions as part of the Advanced Military Career Agent where the mission runners MUST lose their ship?
Players that lose their ship and don’t know what happened or don’t have the resources to replace it are missing the support of vets. More new players would get this support if corps were of a better quality (i.e. not lead by people that didn’t know what they were doing/were trying to exploit noobs or were made up of bob and his 20 alts.)
Just sayin.
No they are quite different.
What i find amusing however is how this little attempted jab at pvp’ers in the game has back fired.
What has a parasitic relationship with it’s environment? Prey.
What has a parasitic relationship with the environment in eve? Bears
I was very interested to see in a discussion on TIS that the three minute warp timer was mainly to stop the loss of new players who could not warp due to getting stuck on things. Interesting…
I think the objection is to the negative connotation of “parasite” versus the neutral or even positive connotation of “predator”. I think that in some people’s minds, a parasite is a disgusting, vile organism that shares nothing in common with a majestic, powerful, beautiful apex predator that gracefully and powerfully exacts the will of God himself to mercfully dispatch the weak and infirm back to heaven . . . or something. Check this video out of a veteran playing with a noob:
HE THOUGHT IT WAS HIS MOM! LOL!!! But at least the “leopad” wasn’t a tape worm or e.coli.
^ Is this the mode of “play” you want EVE Online’s new players to engage with veterans in?
