This is not true. When I was a new player, I was griefed by a more experienced player, a miner who wanted me to mine for him. He offered to buy ore from me at 90% of Jita buy value, and pretended like he was my friend. It was a total scam. So I decided to seek revenge, but how could a new player like me challenge an established veteran?
Fortunately, I realized my old Runescape boyfriend, James 315 was still playing EVE. So he taught me how to gank, which he described as a “balancing mechanic” to ensure that new players are able to fight back against bitter bears. Thank you CCP for allowing me to gank, subscription retained!
I don’t think ganking is the problem, as a new miner/industrialist I can tell you that the fear of being blown up while in lowsec is what keeps you somewhat interested in the game. If there’s no danger, there’s no game. Seriously if you had 100% protection against other players at all times I would’ve quit. It’s just fun to have the occasional unexpected pvp. If you’re so concerned about getting blown up you should probably fly a cheap ship that you can afford to lose.
Exactly, I lost my first ship when my miner ‘friend’ tricked me into a PvE site in an attempt to help him salvage his garbage wrecks. My ship died, and he just laughed like it was funny. He gave me isk to buy a new ship, like the ship meant nothing to him, the emotional effort I put into naming my ship was nothing to him, it was just an object to be used… so I vowed revenge, I plotted and waited. I wanted to kill this miner, but how? How? Fortunately, I found a community of ALPHA MALES and big strong ganker MEN who showed me how a girl could fight back against space bully griefer farmer miners.
I guarantee you, when CCP looks through their logs and data, and they consider new player retention - they are gonna look right at Aiko Danuja and say, “Just look at her, now that’s a new player retained by ganking… isn’t she just the greatest?”
I was a new player, by some standards I still am. CCP knows this, they can confirm it. The data is there, I gank people who have been playing the game longer than me. The whole “waaaah ganking new players is griefing and bad for retention” argument goes right out the window when you consider the reality. Aiko Danuja is proof that ganking RETAINS new players. CCP knows it, which is why they don’t take your advice.
Ganking is how energetic new players can win against lazy carebear bittervets.
That’s fine! The important thing here is that CCP is not listening to you, and nothing you say or do is ever going to change that. I’m doing great in EVE. I’m happy.
And neither did I specifically mention the parts about:
Help them understand why it happened.
Help them to quickly recover.
I thought it was clear that was all included as part of ‘having a supportive group around the player’, which I did mention.
If you’re trying to make a point, could you please be more explicit in what you’re trying to say, because your previous point can lead to a lot of different conclusions if I start assuming things, so I’d rather not do that and stick only to whatever was explicitly written.
