What is Causing EVE to Die?

@Fatt_Albert Nothing is causing EVE Online to die except its own CEO and devs. Just like in every game that has died, it is always the fault of those who run it.
EVE may be on the brink but it is still going. I hope it goes for a few decades more.

That’s a big exaggeration. There are toxic people and trolls everywhere on the internet and in real life, too.
Learn to ignore the idiots and you will be fine.

I actually don’t mind the ads. I would not have found the game I play now if it was not for that ad. And there over in 5 sec, big hoot…

Now I watch EVE ads (which are most of them) just for a good chuckle. Poor noobs. So misled…

^

Maybe this is why the game is “dying?”

Sarcasm? I thought that’s what I implied?

“You can only be a virgin once.” :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll give the noobs this, their facing a much more challenging opposition now than when I started. Bored vets with $$$? New players without the same ambition as the older players for what they want out of a game?

I say -9 CCP, because they keep listening to the whining gankers.

What is causing Eve to die? These forums.

Please, don’t give credit to these clowns for the demise of the game. They couldn’t kill an ant to save their lives.

We all know what’s killing the game and I’m gonna tell it to you straight, loud and clear: [ This post was flagged by the community and is temporary Hidden ]

It’s gankers, but they don’t want to hear it.

EVE is a perfect passive game that people should be able to dip into and find adventure and battle. The fact there is almost no safety in EVE makes it too time consuming to play for those of us with jobs and lives. I lost everything in EVE because my son was born and I didn’t see that my POS in a WH was under attack over that 3 day span, after literally nothing for years, and actively hoping somebody would at least try

There’s just very little agency in this game for people beyond the hard core, so that’s why it dies. They talk of things that are literally alien to almost everyone else, who are just enjoying the idea of a space game, until a group of people take away the game.

I stopped playing at that moment. Didn’t have the time or energy to come back unless it was on my own terms. No MMO survives such things in the long run, at least not without milking the people whose self-esteem is largely based on bullying lower-ranked people in MMO’s.

This is why I PLEX. I dont have 10 hours a day to devote to a video game so I supplement my play time with selling PLEX and buying skill injectors. I pilot Skiffs so that the wanna-be gankers who can barely take down a retriever have to just move on when they see me.

The real ganks in this game are rare. Mostly, it’s nothing more than some overinflated egos like what we see on these forums. Those that have barely taken down more than a Velator in the last 4 years and those were probably done just to keep up the numbers.

These people are little more than a nuisance, but to a player who can’t afford to PLEX or play for several hours each day, that nuisance can become a big problem.

It truly is as simple as that.
Very few people have the kind of time required to fully commit to this game. I myself really like it a lot but I’m not gonna spend no 8 or 5 hours sitting in front of my computer everyday! I got things to do, even if I don’t work.
Few people will invest the kind of money and efforts it takes to skill up a character well enough to engage in the play that CCP expects of players.
People are busy, they don’t have time to…

You lost some meaningless pixilated junk, and gained something so much more valuable and precious, and you’re complaining about it?

Iirc, POSs have been obsolete for over 10 years now.

You don’t have to put in 8 hours a day to be successful in this game. For Pete’s sake, skill training occurs while you’re offline as well, so you don’t have to grind for experience. If you’ve set up a good industry infrastructure for yourself, it requires very little of your time to maintain and up keep. This is the only MMORPG I have ever played where you don’t have to attentive and time sink it to be successful.

Wormhole Structure bashing is not ganking, but you don’t want to hear it eh?

so when the “gankers” and the war deccrs both told CCP that them changing the war dec mechanics would cause a huge proliferation in suicide ganking…did CCP listen??

Fuq no they didnt, and now you cry about ganking??? GTFO here with that :poop:

Of course. I’m answering in the context of the question, my opinion as to why EVE is gying, and an experience that informs it. If I was answering ‘what is your priority in life’ with ‘some pixels in space’ then you are right.

The point was, what I had, I liked. I spent a few years building it up. I had routines, things I could do while watching my WH and working too. It was fun to me, and believe me my friend, such sanctuary can be a beautiful thing at times when life is tough with a little one. EVE was something I thought may be able to stay in my life, but I certainly didn’t have the energy to build it all up again. What had been fun was essentially living in my own little part of the made up world we inhabited. It wasn’t mine, but it was for the most part something I knew every corner of.

Of course, that wasn’t ganking, just bad luck, but in a microcosm, it was the same psychological blow that thousands of players a year experience. The ‘why bother?’ mentality, because everything gets obliterated by someone else, and there’s very little incentive to build such a thing back up.

You didn’t have any problem destroying someone’s 200m ISK Astero or someone else’s 105m ISK Heron…or 400m worth of other stuff…yet all you’ve lost in your Argel char is 198m worth of stuff ( over 8 years ) and you can’t cope ? Boo Hoo.

Ironic coming from someone who had a forum meltdown because one of his many easy targets turned the tables on him and blew up his BC.
