EVE is dying because of specialization and incompetence. It’s the only viable game of a company who couldn’t develop a plan to exit a chalk circle on the ground and which has survived by appealing to a continuously diminishing pool of loyal customers.
Now everybody is old, there are better games out there and the fact that nobody has bothered itself with competing with EVE proves that it’s a dead end as gaming goes.
(And then it got bought by an even more incompetent company which just happened to have more money and customers).
EVE Online is the best EVE Online game in the world.
Seems to be growing. Though the forums have some issues with a few players that spend all day and night on here acting like they know everything and harass others constantly. Wondering why that is? Maybe they work for CCP or something. But everyone else seems awesome and with new promotions by CCP I think things are going to grow and get better and better!
What will actually kill Eve in the end? Those who choose to play a game in which they have little to no understanding and then complain about it as if those who create the sandbox content are the problem. Eve is vicious. Eve is the dark alley in the worst part of town. If you choose to walk down that alley, be prepared for what may come to you. You don’t jump into the ring and expect not to get punched. Eve is not WOW, it is not like any other MMO or game and that is why it’s still around after 20 years.
Also…CCP’s constant money grabs, in the end, will put the nails in the coffin. Used to be cheaper to sub when the game was newer. I get the bills have to be paid…so remove Alphas.
I think a wordsalad should have more severe effects than that, maybe a corruption of the artificial brain, something similar to a computer virus, or something along those lines.
Honestly, I think it’s the new generation of gamers. They’re accustomed to instant gratification and minimal penalties for death/failure. Is there data to the average age of eve players?
Indeed. The ‘Eve is dead’ posts are basically doing what is called ‘poisoning the well’…and are ironically themselves a cause of the very issue they moan about.
What I find strange about these threads is the need for so many players to rush to defend and generate more drama about it. All online games population decline over time, but it is not officially “dead” until the day you attempt to login and it is no longer there. City of Heroes was a great MMO. The publisher was horrible, they sold players a DLC package just one month before announcing their closing. I keep seeing people trying to convince others CoH is still active, but all it does is point you to one of many pirate servers running it.
but CCP isn’t doing anything to retain their players, much less attract new players, so through all the nerfing, scarcity and rotten mechanics it isn’t surprising that the ‘EVE is dead’ meme has had a long life in the history of the game.
Player numbers are low and confidence in CCP is slipping to all-time low as well. I really hope that the game has another 20 years ahead of it but the present reality doesn’t support that wish, not by a long shot.
