But its no more ‘toxic’ than modern FPS games where one might snipe someone from 1000 yards. Or…I can still recall the original Team Fortress from 1998, with a clan I was in called Run Or Die ( ROD for short )…which is pretty descriptive of the gameplay. There was carnage and it was great fun, and I don’t recall a single person ever wailing to Mommy, calling for the devs to make safe spaces, or anything like that.

Again, this comparison makes no sense.
Compare to other MMOs : PVP servers are not the popular ones. They may start well at first, but then nobody wants to play in a persistent world that is rigged.

What makes Eve (and those forum) toxic, is that toxicity is a tool. You just happen to be on the receiving end, so you complain about it, while people who are on the sending hand will instead make up justification to maintain the statu quo which benefits to them.

If you want to have no toxicity, you need to make toxicity bear no fruit in the first place. This is usually done with punishment, which actually makes toxicity more costly but still potentially beneficial.

TLDR : hate the game, not the gamers.

Are you trying to prove my point ?
'cause, I’m afraid you are.

An MMORPG isn’t a shooter. Different gameplay, different mechanics, different audience, different expectations. Plus, you just respawn and get right back in action, it doesn’t cost you your ship.

EVE has an issue where it’s basically advertised and presented as a MMORPG, and the “full loss kill anywhere” aspect is either glossed over or skipped altogether (as in the NPE). Some people then find a jarring mismatch against their expectations from a MMORPG, which they perceive as EVE encouraging ‘toxic’ behavior.

If CCP/EVE was more up-front in setting the correct expectations in their ads and NPE, they might lose more players early on; but the ones who stay would be more likely to whether the occasional ship loss.

If you’re going to shift alts to distance yourself from your Cilla and Altara posts, you should at least make an effort to not simply repeat posting all the same attitudes and math misconceptions over again.

You clearly didn’t grasp my point. I was talking about people poisoning the well. The endless ‘Eve Is Dead’ posts that are themselves deterring people. The endlessly toxic posts complaining about toxicity. Those who wail about Eve dying are the very people killing it ! The sheer irony.

Oh…hi Mr Epeen as well.

You clearly haven’t watched many Eve ads lately. What part of showing a nice skyhook opening party being interrupted by a raiding party is glossing over the destruction in Eve ? What part of ’ I used to be a miner…but I was tired of being blown up’ is glossing over things like ganking, etc ?

I don’t see a single advert say ’ Welcome to Teletubbie La La Land where you can mine to Kumbaya whilst watching Home & Away '. The idea that people are being given mismatched expectations is pure nonsense.
