I’m confused. A whole heck of a lot of the previous threads on the forum clearly talk about newbies flying blingy Vargurs and other Marauders and their suffering at the hands of gankers. Where are all the newbies in their Paladins now?

Honestly in 2023 EVE where people are more often swiping credit cards for ISK. We should be more skeptical about the average ISK a new player has these days.

Actually it’s the complete opposite. The current format for the event plays directly into my enjoyment in the game. I love exploring, and this rewards me for doing what I enjoy doing anyway. In fact, it works out as better paydays for me, because people leave non-event sites all over the place.

We can sit here and throw baseless accusations at each other and it doesn’t prove anything. I could just as easily say you’re just too lazy to go hunt down smaller ships and put in the effort, you’re holding this view purely for your own benefit, yada, yada.

The fact is, Eve has a problem where a lot of people joining the game never really get over the fear of losing a ship. An event like this doesn’t really help that. But if we had DED like restrictions on some lower sites, it might encourage them to actually go and get involved, maybe see it’s not so scary out there after all. I’d love to see people getting involved in smaller ship fights, because I think that would feed into losing a fear of being blapped and get more people involved in things like FW, which is another enjoyment of mine.

The rewards you get from the event itself are just un-sellable skins. The drops from sites can be tailored to not even be that great. Just look at DED sites, people naturally progress higher. It’d be nice to see more people involved, looking for groups, etc. If you don’t think it should be, fine, you have a right to that opinion. I, personally, would like to see more players getting over their fears and blowing crap up.

I don’t know they were taking about newbs in marauders, but I’m just saying that, in the context of this content being accessible to younger players, a young player just can’t win against the old crusty vets should one decide to bully their way into sites. Even with friends. 2500 dps is too much, so they’ll never get the wreck unless they steal it and go suspect.

Having a smaller ship class site would be a good thing, IMO.

Yes.

But your “solution” achieves nothing (other than make it easier for the lazies).

They would still lose to a 1100 dps nighthawk or a 600 dps HAC.

Totally agree - it’s not so easy for a young player to drop 300m plus on a HAC or something only to lose it to tough rats. But I’d bet they would be happy to lose a few rifters in their attempts.

And then they’d be strapping guns and scrams onto their ships and shooting people in the face in low sec in no time flat!

Don’t lie, it won’t happen.

Then say that, rather than using “Air quotes” to imply I’m just trying to get an easy payday.

You don’t think it’d work, cool. That’s a completely different argument from “This shouldn’t be new player friendly”, which is a crappy opinion for any MMO.

That’s not what I said. I said “not everything needs to be new player friendly” and “if they put in effort they can do it, but it WILL take preparation and effort”.

Thank you for reading and understanding the premise. Then using your imagination to realize that perhaps, just perhaps, these smaller sites would limit ships to less than command ships, or even HACs.

I was fully expecting to lose a ship to some pvp which is why I went with a cheap ship, seems obvious.

Guarantee you it would, for a certain percentage of players. Maybe 10?

A lot of people don’t have that opinion though. I can tell you from personal experience that people that are entirely competent at the PvE side of the game just can’t get into the mindset of, “Let’s go blow crap up, even if it’s mine”.

Which is sad, because it’s bloody fun.

It wouldn’t matter. If it’s restricted to frigates newbies who up in their 90 dps Kestrel and an older player grabs his 200 dps Worm and they still lose.

That’s because they all insist on flying blingy T3Cs and mauraders.

Sadly no.

If 10% of players would be enticed to do solo/small group pvp low sec would be brimming with action everywhere, instead of frantically having to lure them in with FW profits (and even then at least half of them are farm bots).

Are you familiar with navy scout sites in FW?

FW is mostly alts from older players, very new actual new players. You’re not going to entice “newer players” to “do pvp in low sec” because “this event allows for frigates sites”.
