Reading up on past threads the pushback toward making LP tradable is based on bad arguments it seems.
For example people claim it would make farming LP into a bot profession. But it seems to me that them not being tradable is incentivizing bots. For example one of the things that drive people away from content where the main reward is LP is that cashing out the LP is non trivial.
If LP could be sold directly on the market then more people will be attracted to content where the main reward is LP. Lets discuss or not.
It’s a bit more complicated than that. Some LP is worth more than others. There would have be some kind of exchange rate. Not all LP is equal. For example, ORE LP or FW LP would be worth far more than LP from, say, some other random NPC corp like Caldari Steel.
Then there is the specific case of Interbus. You earn LP from completing Interbus missions, but they have no LP store.
That would indeed work, but it still leaves Interbus LP worthless. CCP either needs to give Interbus an LP store, or remove their LP altogether. And yes, I know why Interbus doesn’t have an LP store like every other corp. I understand the reasoning behind it. Just make the Interbus LP store vanity items only. Skins, clothing, etc…
My idea was more along the lines of converting “X” amount of Caldari Steel LP to “X” amount of ORE LP, for example. That’s why I mentioned a conversion rate. Basically exchanging a large amount of lesser-value LP to a small amount of more valuable LP.
But then you get into the problem of nullsec residents who farm ORE LP whining that high sec players are getting ORE LP by farming LP for some random corp in high sec.
Yes, I understand. Just saying that I would also like to be able to exchange LP from one corp to LP from another corp, exchange rate being determined by the value of the LP. Probably a 10:1 ratio if exchanging lesser value for a higher value. For example, 1 million LP from Caldari Steel would only get you 100k LP from ORE.
Just use a fixed 2:1 conversion ratio and be done with it, ie:
I can convert any x LP to y LP
2000 Caldari Navy LP yields 1000 Sisters of EVE LP (or vice versa)
As long as the conversion always ends up on the losing end it will never be abused. The main benefit is being able to take all the small LP amounts you may have accumulated over time and consolidate them into LP that you’re actively redeeming.
Addendum: Not opposed to a 10:1 conversion ratio, either.
If LP was tradable on the market you could sell LP A and buy LP B essentially converting one to the other. The conversion rate would vary depending on supply and demand.
Either way works for me. Either by trading it on the market, or by conversion. As long as I can get rid of the literally millions of otherwise worthless LP I have laying around that I will never spend…
All we need is a client-side conversion tool alongside the “donate to corporation” option. Voila - problem solved. I’m not sure if being able to sell/trade LP on the open market is a good idea (this has previously been covered so I won’t rehash the reasons why).
Because why not? We already do this, except in the form of buying modules/ships/items on the market that other players have traded in their LP for. This just cuts out the need of having to convert said LP to an item first in order to be able to sell it.
So if it’s already possible, then what’s the the point. I’m sure there’s a reason why people keep making threads about this, other than “it would be convenient”.
Especially if it’s pushed by some astro turfed new posting char.
There’s a convoluted way of accomplishing this, but it’s not exactly seamless and involves at least one other player. What everyone is requesting is just an easier way to achieve this solo.
You basically just go to the LP store and buy an item that cost 1 LP and maybe 10 ISK that gives 1 LP when redeemed and then take it to Jita or wherever and sell it.
But what’s the POINT of being able to sell your LP directly to other players, I bet there’s some underlying mechanics or trick people are hoping to unlock with this.
