shrug my vpn thinks eve/ccp servers are p2p traffic lol…
Do we use the 80.433 as the specific local port and MyAllowedPorts for the name? Or are we supposed to look for a specific CCP or EvE file in that list where the save MyAllowedPorts file showed up at the end of the video? I am sort of lost as I know enough to follow the instructions to the right area but lack the knowledge to proceed further without risk of screwing everything up lol!
Yeah I am not sure this is a good way of explaining how it works. If eve were a shop, you could stop it from getting customers by
- Filling up all the car parking spots
- Jamming up the carpark entry/exit points
- Causing accidents to jam the surrounding roads
- Causing accidents to jam the surrounding highways
A DDOS is closer to item 4.
Mitigation is hard, since its difficult to figure out what is legitimate and what is not without some form of policing. Stopping each car and doing a check is intensive, even with a lot of police the overall speed on the highway would be well below expected.
VPN’s are like taking the backroads to avoid the highways, yet the whole point of the highway was faster travel so it is almost like trading one problem for a new one.
Well, it requires ISP and backhaul providers to co-operate. This is not always something easy to do. There are some pretty smart people who do this work with complicated software, but its still a lot of information to filter through with a high likelihood of false positives.
Where did you get the 80.433 ?
The message in-game says port 5222
All I did was add that number and chat was working fine yesterday. However this is a different day and it’s not working now.
In Ottawa, ON in Canada using Rogers Ignite and can’t even get into TQ today. Was able to login a bit last night, but chat was not working at all.
I was watching the video in the link you provided. I got to the area that the video leads to in the settings. That is where I got lost and was wondering if the numbers they used in the video where the ones I was supposed to use. I did not know about the numbers being shown in the client settings
@Zercix might want to avoid touching anything if thats your understanding…not trying to be rough or any such thing…
That is why I did not touch anything and posted. Thank you for the check though as there are plenty that are more confident than I with computer settings and could have easily been thinking of taking the leap.
Yeah, I just used 5222 as requested by CCP instead of the test number in the video.
Anyway, I just found this in the Eve account site:
theres a lot of information running around with people who think and hope they have a fix…it will fix itself eventually in my opinion
the cache isn’t the problem, anyone who thinks its a cache problem simply managed to connect at a good moment…
You’re just another character on the internet, you’re not CCP, you don’t have first hand knowledge about their systems nor do you have any public certifications to show you’re an expert on this topic.
I’ll just follow what CCP is requesting than follow your paranoid assumptions.
I didn’t decline the port information, but, you go on with your salty self chief…I never said or purported to be a CCP operative…but hey, start posting your credentials while you’re at it…getting logged in is the main problem, and you posted previously about how the cache clear could save the day…no paranoia here…mostly patience…sperg.
keep in mind your post came in mid conversation, mid subthread, and mid post action…just walk away and call this a misunderstanding before you get all lit kid
I can log into the game, I verified all downloaded files in shared cache of the launcher and it purged over 1500 extra files.
The only issue I have now is with chat not working again, now that I found more info from CCP’s official support site, I’ll follow their advice instead of listening to your salty advice.
anecdotal…my cache was zero files extra, zero files deleted because I’ve cleaned and verified it within a reasonable amount of time in recent history. I didn’t offer advice beyond wait and be patient…honestly…you really ought to just calm it a touch friend…
You butted into my convo with another player about the chat issue, how about you mind your own business and just walk away kid.
perhaps we were both involved in responding to @Zercix at the same time aiming to assist and you’re getting it all twisted…regardless…enjoy the last word since this obviously can’t go any other way…
It is not a violation.
There is simply the possibility that someone will do something stupid and get the VPN servers IP addresses blacklisted.
They may suspend your account but if you open a ticket and explain the situation, they will release the suspension.
Not the same thing as being banned.
