A Gentle Review From a New User

I can say this to the OP, i am finally with a corp that is helping me learn. I am finally starting to “get” this game and highly enjoy it now.
People make this game what it is more than the content itself…

Some people pay a lot of money for that service.

Mmmm…we aiways get the shower of praise to set up the actual hook (which is a scam in itself). The…uh, I’m the only person in history to catch this “Ponzy scheme”…hook here from an arduous wall of text bespeaks of someone with scant understanding of both the subjects of a.) What is a Ponzy scheme, and b.) This game. I applaud the obvious attempt to appear intelligent, insightful and articulate. However, considering points a and b, some doubt is cast on those three characterizations.

You know something is wrong in the thread when the op writes an impossible-to-read-in-1-min text wall every time he replies.

Am I pointing the obvious if I say “no like, no buy” with a chinese old woman accent ?

Only if you live in USA.

Btw, I forgot to take my picture, I was SO EAGER TO PLAY WITH MY VENTURE. Sorry if it’s impolite, but I realized I’m shy, so no pic serves me right.

@Serene_Repose I don’t know why people such as yourself believe I have an ulterior motive here. I don’t. I gave you my review. Reviews are an evaluation by the author of said review. I simply listed some pros and cons. Bad reviews have nothing nice to say about the matter or they only praise the subject.

Because you didn’t have time to look up the meaning. I said the selling of Plex for ISK is akin to the Ponzy scheme. Ponzy was a man in New York who claimed to be a financial investor. He would take money as investments but show the money to the investors depending on their greed to invest more. All the time he was not investing the money into anything at all, he was just collecting money. He got too greedy and ended up with the investors wanting to pull out. His house of cards collapsed. If or when the players buying Plex for ISK stops, the economy falls apart. Fortunately for this game, there are still new players unaware that buying ISK for Plex is a bad idea, or it would not be available in the market.

Also I applaud your attempt to embitter me by using some inverse comment about being ignorant, foolish, and unintelligible. It is apparent to me, you either drank the Kool-Aid or just looking for provocation. If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.

Have a better one.

Have you considered that everyone is mocking you because of your silly overly dramatic attempts to demonize the game as a “Ponzi scheme”. Like give us a break. We are all so sorry that you are not doing well in your space adventures, and we wish you the best of luck in Farmville or whatever game you pursue next.

@Aiko_Danuja everyone is rather a broad scope, I attempt to refrain from using we and everyone, as it makes me sound like I am lording over the community. I see people who disagree, others who have analyzed what I have said, and some who have taken the meaning out of context. e.g. You said, “silly overly dramatic attempts to demonize the game as a “Ponzi scheme”.” I never demonized this game. Others keep claiming I am some kind of prohibitionist (against gambling), some claim I am some Machiavellian who is pretending to be someone else (not a new player), and yet all this is not about the whole review but just casting doubts up the reviewer.

I am pleased that so many took time to read the review but somewhat disappointed, too much debate was spent on the monetary paragraph. There is more to my review than one paragraph. Yet everyone is focused on the money. Revenues should be the focus of the game company and not the consumer. The 8th paragraph was my “buyer beware” statement and the fact that I see no interest investing my cash into the game store.

I realize this was mean to hurt me. I think it speaks volumes that I somehow have injured your ego or pride.

I sincerely apologize to you.

Wow, just stop. Nobody is analyzing your rants. At this point, you’ve spent more time writing about EvE Online than actually playing the game. Feel free to go leave a review on Steam, but you are wasting your time trying to tell people who play a game what you think about the game you haven’t even played.

What is all this really about? This is all about his frail ego. Mr. Darkstar simply can’t handle the fact that his unfit spaceship was intercepted whilst autopiloting through lowsec. Ergo, the only reasonable conclusion is that the game is pay to win! Unfortunately, Srima clearly takes no responsibility whatsoever for the untimely death of his crew, or the tragic loss of his not so covert logistic transport.

Don’t bother apologizing to that poster. He’s just a miserable little no lifer who’s only goal is to disrupt and derail threads by trying to make others feel the same way. Can check his posting history and you’ll see.

There’s no end of Youtube tutorials on Eve…ranging from simple to complex explanations and from 5 minutes to over an hour. CCP should not be amending their game just because some are too lazy to investigate what they are playing.

I find this whole ’ there are some players who…’ line of reasoning tedious. There are probably ‘some players who’ stand on their head and juggle golf balls with their toes while playing games…should CCP cater for them too ?

In computing circles there’s an acronym RTFM. It applies every bit as much to Eve.

Congratulations, you made it to the actual game of Eve online. Where in a free and fair sandbox universe everyone who is a scoundrel and everyone who isn’t can all say whatever slanderous thing they want to someone, about someone, and for someone’s goal.

It doesn’t matter that you’re “outside the game giving it a review”, the meta-game has long included “things outside the login screen”.

The question is, are you gonna log in and try to chase Aiko to blow her up for the way she talked to you?

The irony of this post is delicious.

Of course not LOL.

Sure, games can just say “RTFM” but then they’ll lose players. Well-designed games don’t require players to use third-party websites and applications just to be able to play the game.

For the record, CCP are already amending their game for these players. That’s what the improvements to things like the NPE are there to do, to teach players how to play the game without them needing to go find third-party guides and hope they are up to date. It’s a good thing too because most third-party information about EVE is out of date.

Yes. Games should lose players who can’t even be bothered studying the instructions. Or does your intended version of Eve come with a free set of diapers and instructions on how to do up your shoe laces ?

But you’re not talking about “the instructions” you’re talking about third-party websites. I’m saying the game should have “the instructions” so that people don’t have to take an out-of-game course to be able to play the game. You’re outraged because I think the developers should take responsibility for teaching players to play the game they built.

You’re so angry all of the time. It can’t be healthy. Take a breath.

Do stop projecting. It isn’t healthy.

And seriously, it takes seconds to log into Youtube and find no end of good up to date videos on how to play Eve. Stop inventing problems.

I’m not inventing a problem. If a game is designed in such a way that it requires new players to go to YouTube to look up guides in order to play it then it’s badly designed. I’m sure you know this too, you will just argue about anything and everything.

CCP knows this which is why they are improving their NPE all the time and it’s already far better than it used to be. There are still gaps though.

There’s nothing to argue over. Youtube is full of ‘how to’ videos for just about every game there is. I’ve yet to see a single game that was ever adequately explained within the game itself. I’ve had to use Youtube videos for Fallout 4…for example…the in-game ‘help’ system is very limited. It’s not really a problem as there’s player videos explaining every aspect of the game.

What do you mean, the much-hated Dwarf Fortress and the spiteful hate-riddled Dwarf Fortress community are all playing an objectively awful game.

Sure Tarn and Zach Adams can just say “RTFM” but then they’ll lose players. Well-designed games don’t require players to use third-party websites like DF Wiki and applications like DFHack just to be able to play the game.

For the record, Bay 12 Games are already amending their game for these players. That’s what the improvements to things like the Steam release are there to do, to teach players how to actually understand the game graphics without them needing to go find third-party guides and hope they are up to date, nor learning about the k key. It’s a good thing too because most third-party information about Dwarf Fortress is out of date.

The game should have “the instructions” so that people don’t have to take an out-of-game course to be able to play the game. You’re outraged because I think the developers should take personal responsibility for teaching players to play the game they built.

Bay 12 knows this which is why they are improving their graphics all the time and it’s already far better than it used to be. There are still gaps though.
