A Spiritual Successor to Eve Online

Wow, good one. You sure owned me!! LMFAO

Stating simple facts is not bullying you absolute braindead moron

Please try again

Not to mention the fact that I already covered No Manā€™s Sky IN THE OP, and someone else already brought up this fact. Jesus. Are you on shrooms or something? GET A GRIP ON REALITY M8

If anything, YOUā€™RE bullying ME because I want a game like Eve

Yeah, Iā€™m going off today bruh. TRY ME

Probably the nearest you will get is Homeworld, which is very much a spiritual predecessor to Eve. In fact I think there is an interview with Hilmar where he even mentions it as such.

Homeworld came out in 1999 and so precedes Eve by 4 years or so. Homeworld 2 came out at the same time as Eve. Homeworld 2 Remastered can have up to 5 players. Note how similar the original stations in Homeworld are to Amarr stations !..

Yeah itā€™s such a shame about Homeworld 3 tbh

From what I can recall, Homeworld had a space ā€˜gridā€™ system similar to Eve, and a range of ships and ability to lock ships and fire at them and so on. In fact many aspects are quite similar to Eveā€¦though those Amarr looking space stations were not immobile but could be moved. Iā€™d like to think Amarr stations are a tribute to Homeworldā€¦though Iā€™ve never seen anything that would suggest a definitive link. Maybe one of the devs can answer that.

Well break the rules and attacking other people, that tends to happen. Quit being a jerk.

Eve is a unique game, one server shard, so almost no game is similar to eve the way you are expecting

So much has happened in the last five months.

But the thing that brings you back to the forum is to announce how you are insulted by this guy. Even though for the last five months there have been at least thirty temps in here that say terrible things that upset the delicate flowers that have been joining us of late.

And crickets from you the whole time. Weird.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

Iā€™m giving Eve Frontier a shot.

Fine. Iā€™ll bite. Every third post from you is to say something about it.

So what is it? CCPā€™s version of a F2P live service cash grab?

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

First of all, isnā€™t Eve already CCPā€™s version of that game? Anyway Eve Frontier - Survival sandbox Eve clone - you need to refuel your ship and objects are now colladible and provide cover. It could be an interesting game, but with things like this Iā€™ll believe it when I see it. How many other CCP side projects have failed or been mediocre. Not interested until I see something substantial

Just trying to keep the thread on-track. I purchased the base Founderā€™s pack and put it on to download earlier (5GB), so give me a few days to thoroughly test drive it.

But thatā€™s what EVE is already. I think he just wants an EVE 2.0.

Much like the rest of us.

Itā€™s such a shame about the game Perpetuum - I hopped in last night and fit out a small assault bot with a medium armor repairer and some em-guns, an auxiliary capacitor regenerator and stuff - it really feels like old school Eve to me. Itā€™s such a cool game, but itā€™s been abandoned by the original devs and itā€™s being maintained open source by the playerbase, which is awesome, but the game is literally stuck in 2008. The UI is so bad, and itā€™s hard to get any info on anything. Itā€™s funny, the amount of resources it would take to pick this game back up and reignite it would be miniscule for some of these gaming corporations, but it just wonā€™t happen because no one cares.

Itā€™s not just the spaceships that make Eve awesome, itā€™s the game mechanics - the tracking formulas, the RNG, the ship stats, hitpoints and resistances. The sheer amount of customization options for every ship - being able to fly it how you want and use it however you want, different slot layouts and modules, different tanking styles, speed tanking, etc, etc. This is the stuff that makes Eve a nerdā€™s wet dream.

Perpetuum and Mechwarrior Online both sort of have this type of gameplay in their own way. But both fall short by a lot. Perpetuum is a game that is amazing if you were living in 2003. But in 2025 itā€™s kind ofā€¦ idk, feels like a mobile game or something, not a fully realized game, stuck in an infinite paradox of irrelevancy. So sad. MWO is a great game tbh, but for obvious reasons it sort of missed the mark, as even though itā€™s a very deep and realistic PvP science fiction simulator, itā€™s still basically just a robot arena shooter.

Thereā€™s really not much else out there. I have to admit, Star Citizen does look pretty cool. I might have to try it when I get a new PC soon. Itā€™s arguably the only real competitor with Eve.

EvE has no successor, because itā€™s still not dead!

It is crazy when you realize itā€™s been multiple decades and not a single game that even comes remotely close to Eve.

Elite Dangerous is remotely close.

Probably because the other game studios looked at EVEā€™s player count.
